  1. Added my details - let's do this!
  2. Hi SeaBee As far as know the HR strap records the running dynamics so you can analyse it afterwards in Training Peaks or something similar, but doesn't transmit it. To run in Zwift/Rouvy you need a footpod. The Zwift one works, but has to be calibrated and gives a general indication at best. The Stryd one is expensive, but brilliant.
  3. The nail on my left index finger is busy growing back as I'm typing this, but I managed to rip it off right there and then...
  4. I received a letter confirming my entry a couple of weeks ago, but I was entered for this year and it was carried over. The impression I got from the letter is that they are not going to open entries, but rather stick to the one's entered already. I think it might be a combination of people transferring entries from all over and COVID restrictions that are still in place, so it might change closer to the time.
  5. I know they moved from Springs to Brakpan a couple of years ago. I got some thru-axle fittings for the trailer rack from them last year and they were still going. Don't know after Covid... http://www.hanlerproducts.co.za/contact.html
  6. Not trying to give them unnecessary flack. I can understand that they don't always have stock, but expect them to at least communicate. For example, I ended up ordering the tyres I wanted from another shop and they're only expecting stock the second week of September. At least I know.
  7. This is why I won't use them. How would I know whether they have stock as the site shows they have, but then they take weeks to respond with an actual quote - IF they do. Can probably phone them, but then I might as well ignore the whole online thing and start phoning all the cycle shops when I want/need something.
  8. I've successfully used CWC, Bike Mob, Cycle Lab and BuyCycle for various odds and ends. Bike Mob still waiting for stock of the tyres that I ordered, but the rest of the stuff was sent and the stock issue communicated. Cycle Lab didn't have the brake cables I ordered, but had an alternative and threw in a pair of socks for the inconvenience (was willing to refund). I'm happy and can understand that it can't be easy at the moment, but really don't understand the Bike Addict business model - if they still exist.
  9. Over the past month I had really good feedback and response from a lot of shops mentioned here, but when I placed an order with Bike Addict I actually got an automated email confirming my order, but the quote was to follow within 3 weeks - yes, 3 weeks! It's been 3 weeks and I've not heard anything from them. I can understand they don't keep stock but that's just ridiculous.
  10. Looks very promising, but they would have to expand the sport on Showmax Pro before it would be viable for me - not a football fan...
  11. This will probably be my next bike - when the time comes to retire the VIPA... Looks amazing!
  12. I run quite a lot in Zwift. Started with the Zwift running pod and it works fine. You have to calibrate it, but it's easy enough, just make sure you're treadmill speed is true (mine was about 45s/km optimistic at 5 min/km). Replaced it with the Stryd pod and works brilliantly as it's got bluetooth and ANT+ so I can link the tablet (running Zwift) and the Garmin watch at the same time and doesn't need calibrating. What I also find with the Stryd is that (I think) it pushes the power value through to Zwift as the measured distances between Zwift and the watch are closer together - independent of how much Zwift climbing was done in the run. As the treadmill is not linked, it doesn't change the gradient automatically and I generally just leave it, but it does improve the whole indoor running experience significantly. I usually select a course of more or less the distance I want to cover and try and complete it, which kind of pushes you to not just stop at any arbitrary time. As an example, I was only really off the first week of lock-down, but managed to complete 3 half marathons on Zwift in that week. So for me it made a huge difference and is definitely worthwhile.
  13. You need to notify them by 30th March, so not much time to decide. Hard to believe this time last week we still thought we were going to have a race...
  14. Ten minste gaan ons strandlywe reg wees vir die somer!
  15. Agree with this completely. I've gained more from this experience than just the participation on race day and I've enjoyed the process. Always room for improvement, so will be better prepared if postponed!
  16. https://www.heraldlive.co.za/news/2020-03-12-health-officials-call-meeting-over-bay-ironman/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1584025497 At this stage there's about a 5% chance that it will go ahead IMHO. The influx of people from over the world and the risk is just too big. We'll probably know more after the meeting today...
  17. Use the same setup for the laptop and remotes. For the tablet I use the Hercules tablet holder as per link below. Connects unto the music stand and works for both the trainer and treadmill. http://herculesstands.com/international/products/multimedia/tablet-holders/dg305b/
  18. My activities and points are pulling through, I get notifications saying that I'm getting Discovery miles for hitting the bank and health weekly targets and I could play the board this morning, but my Discovery miles total didn't change. The system is really not well at the moment. Hopefully it gets sorted soon...
  19. I've been lurking on this thread for some time, but always considered myself more of a cyclist. Just joined the Strava Club (on there as Org Langenhoven) as I need to start focusing more on the running. I want to do do Ironman next year - starting with the half in January and the full one in PE at the end of March. I won't threaten the top of any leader boards, but it will be a really good motivational tool to see how I measure up!
  20. Thanks man, she will treasure it for sure. Yeah, that's something they can consider, but it does have a cost application aside from everything else. He wants to get her an ebike for other rides anyway and although (n + 1) is always the best answer, it's not always possible.
  21. This year I rode with my wife and we started in 6G - i.e. very close to the back. She's never been athletic, but really wanted to do this. Over the last couple of months she started training and gradually increased her mileage. She started getting up at 04:00 in the morning to hop unto the trainer and reached various milestones along the way. It was not always easy, but I as training anyway and we had a lot of fun doing it together. On the day of the race, the weather was not ideal, but she stuck it out. I could assist her by pacing and giving advice - didn't push her once. It was really tough going out of Simonstown (especially), but she stuck it out and hung in there. I've never been concerned about cut-off times as I'm usually not affected by them, but she knew them inside out (even the 7hr finish one) and we were very aware of them. Coming into Bantry Bay we realised that it was going to be very close and she pushed herself to her limit - to the point where she was basically crying at the finish - but she made it with just over 2 minutes to spare! Oh, the look on her face when she realised that she achieved her goal after working hard for months - and on the day. Extending the finish time would be no skin off her back, but it was in the rules for all to see. Whilst I could do this with my wife and have a clear understanding of what she went through one of my best mates can't. He's wife has been seriously ill now for longer than a year - as a woman of around 1.7m she weighs around 42kg's at the moment - and they cannot see that she will ever be fit/strong enough to do it on her own steam. She would love to it on an ebike though and I for one, would not mind one little bit if she could.
  22. I hear you! Luckily my wife had a chat with one of the security ladies and they allowed us to use the facilities at the museum (bottom of the car park). Worth while remembering for next time.
  23. The info is the same as the booklet on the website with links to the gpx files (which can be downloaded from the website as well).
