  1. I was under the same impression as you and really don't understand why it does not qualify for the full discount as per the HealthyGear card, but it is what it is...
  2. Back in the office today and reflecting on a really awesome weekend - without an official Argus finish... About the weather. I did the race in 2009 and yesterday a couple of us cycled backwards on the route up to the top of Chappies. As a direct comparison I honestly feel that the wind was worse than in 2009. Most people turned around before the booms because it was just that bad. I was on a MTB and around some of the corners it was impossible to stay on one side of the road - I was almost blown off the side and at one stage it literally felt like the bike was going to lift up. I saw people sitting flat holding on to their bike's top tubes with the bikes flailing in the wind. Personally I think it would have been reckless for organisers to expect bunches to go through there as the gusts would have resulted in many accidents. I would not have attempted cycling there in a bunch - I've never experienced anything like that (even in 2009). With respect to the protesters I'm just going to say that myself (like most people) are fed up with the lawlessness and lack of action by authorities, and we cannot continue to allow this sort of behavior. For one we cannot afford it. I do, however, not believe that it resulted in the race being cancelled - although it might have contributed. Regarding the weekend and can honestly say that it was one of the most fun-filled times of my life. We got to go to the expo, had lunch in a very nice local tavern in the city center, enjoyed the awesome trails at Meerendal and cycled around Blouberg, Melkbos, Koeberg and the beach front on the day before the race. On race day I got to cycle into the city and then from the finish back on the route. For the first time we went down into Llandudno where there was this big skateboard party going on (as there apparently is every year at the same time as the Argus). I also got to go up Champan's Peak on a really windy day! I understand that a lot of people had very different intentions regarding the race, but one of my friends commented on the way back that we would not have gone down on Wednesday evening if we knew there was going to be no race and maybe just maybe we should do it more often...
  3. I really hope Cape Town gets (lots of) rain urgently and wouldn't mind it this weekend, but after all the muddy rides we've had the last couple of weeks, dust doesn't sound that bad!
  4. Sounds like good fun, but we're coming down with the MTB's and want to hit Meerendal and some of the other lovely trails you guys are privileged enough to ride regularly!
  5. Tx DJR. Jip we are driving down, but there's 5 of us so we can share the driving duties. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I've had to have washed sand from my feet!
  6. Today is a loooong day at work as we are leaving straight after - already packed! Very excited!!!!!!!!!
  7. I think e-bikes will have a place and we need to accept it. However, my skill level improved with my fitness. This means that I try and get up hills as quickly as possible (and train to do so) in order to go down as fast as possible. I would be highly upset if someone passes me on an e-bike going up, but then holds me up going down. Until that happens I'm content... I know it's trivial, but that would seem unfair to me.
  8. Speedy recovery man!
  9. I honestly understand your frustration as I've had similar struggles with Telkom, MTN and various others, but for some reason I've not had any problems with Discovery - maybe I shouldn't say that out loud here... My workouts goes through from My Edge 500, 800 and the FR15 without fail (using Garmin Connect) and when I did the Barberton race a couple of weeks ago I realised the results were out because I got the 1500 Vitality points on the evening of the race (updated automatically). In addition I've always gotten the cash back for Healthy Gear purchases and I received my running shirt within two weeks of joining the club! I really hope you get sorted and I trust that it will as in my experience they are not the worst out there...
  10. Hi Gerald The way I see it the 10, 15, 25% cash back actually has nothing to do with the Shoe Booster, but it is the normal cash back for the Healthy Gear. I've bought a number of items with the Vitality Healthy Gear logo (as shown on the screen capture), both online and in the shop and have always gotten the cash back. It is, however, only once the billing cycle is complete. From their reply it does look like they didn't pick it up as a Healthy Gear item and I'm sure it will be sorted.
  11. I have the 2014 VIPA and really enjoy it - great all-round bike IMHO. I also like the fact that they seem to be supporting/sponsoring a number of local athletes/teams.
  12. I joined the TV running club and activated the Shoe Booster last week Thursday. Initially heard nothing about the club, but received a mail yesterday (showed active from last week) to choose the shirt/vest and get the welcome pack delivered. Bought shoes from SW and the Shoe Booster shows as activated in the app. Will have to monitor closely...
  13. Great news! looks like I'm doing the CTCT again next year...
  14. What a great race! Did the Ultra for the first time and boy it was tough - loved it though... Personally I feel the route is more or less spot on now - tough, but doable - and it offers a lot for everybody. Will definitely be back. Only concern is that the water tables from where the Ultra rejoined the Marathon and then the 48km route started running out of Coke and Powerade - only water left - and I was mid pack in the Ultra. If you are out there that long you really do need more than water. I realize it was very hot and humid so the guys were probably drinking a lot, but this could be improved on for next year. Fortunately the guys at the waterpoint at the top of the last climb out of the valley were kind enough to give me a beer - and that got me to the finish line! Again, really great race that will keep me coming back!
  15. Heard about this afterwards. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP
  16. If it rained fairly heavily the road might be washed away slightly in places, but that just makes all the climbing that much more fun! A bit of mud is fine, but I really don't like mudfests... I'm also starting to get nervous for my first real Ultra.
  17. I'll just have one bottle with me on the ultra, but there are ample water points so I'll stop if necessary. I will definitely look out for the FLUGON gazebo!
  18. You'll be fine, my low gear is a 28:36....
  19. Entered the Ultra for the first time - really need to step up the training...
  20. Entered the Ultra this time round... Scary thought, but at least I now have enough motivation to train over the festive season!
  21. Epic trip!
  22. #Legend
  23. Hi Kyle If you are interested I can send you the GPX file for the route. It is flat and fast - <400m of climbing in the 60km route - but the wind can get you on a bad day!
