    Rugby...

I'm really hoping WeePee can pull it through tomorrow. Based on their performance the whole season they would definitely deserve to play (and win!) the final, but in a game like tomorrow that doesn't count and we all know that the Bulls are very dangerous when it comes to play-off matches. Go Prooooooooviiiiiiince!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. All the tyres mentioned are good. I ride with Continentals (Mountain, X- and Race King) and I've had no problems. Just make sure you get the Protection ones as they are the only ones actually made in Germany (and with the black chilli compound which makes it waaaayyyyy better ).
  3. I use only Fizik saddles (Tundra 2 on the MTB and Arione on the road) and am very happy with them. I've done rides of > 200km on consecutive days and my behind has held up! But as has been said, everybody is different and you have to find the one that works for you.
  4. It's great to hear all the positive feedback. I've just put these on a Momsen Vipa that I build up as my dream bike. Going to Thaba on Saturday to try everything out and really looking forward to it!
  5. I like to do singletrack as quick as I can not to get a better time but because it's more fun. Therefore I appreciate it if people give way - which they generally do fairly quickly when I ask nicely. I also make a point of thanking them when I pass. Generally though I try to stay away from oversubscribed races (I don't race enough to get a decent seeding quick enough).
  6. Lots of 173cm tall people here! I fall into the same category and also ride a 54cm road boke with a 80mm stem - and there I thought I was special! Just watch out as it does depend on the frame geometry (54cm bikes aren't all equal...).
  7. I've got the MK II on 1 set of wheels and X King on the other and my wife has the RK on her bike. All of them the Protection. They do struggle to seal some times, but once it's done they're fine. great tyres. Just look out, I see you mention "wide". The Conti's are lots of things, but wide isn't one of them...

    jock comms

Nope, all they say is that your start group is on your race number. Really poor communication....
  10. I'll be doing my 3rd Jock and feel the fitness is all right, but it's all relative as I'm not a racing snake and just enjoy the ride and the vibe - the Jock is the closest a road race gets to a MTB race for me. I'm not the world's best climber, but have managed it with a 53/39 and 25/11 before (and will be doing the same this year!), so a 28 on the back should be fine.
  11. I've got an Arione saddle on the road bike and then found it harsh to move to the MTB. Changed the saddle on that to a Tundra (which is Fizik's MTB equivalent of the Arione) and although nobody can say that their behind is without blemish after a long ride I find that it is easier to switch between the two.
  12. I've definitely been doing it wrong...
  13. This is probably the thing I hate most in MTB races! I have to say though that the guys (and girls) during the Sani this year was very considerate.
  14. It really depends a lot on your budget. I was lucky enough to have an old road bike that found a permanent residence in the trainer so I have no hassles with setup. It's also capable of varying the resistance on different routes as I cycle and this makes it a lot less boring. But this is a fairly expensive option. I do feel, however, that it was worth every cent. Personally, I could never get used to the flywheel on the spinning bike and the setup never felt the same as on the normal bike (for me).
  15. I missed the rocks, but the sand in the top section is hectic! Had a good laugh with my wife as I was shouting out obstacles in the singe track as we went along. At one stage I was going:"Gat, gat, gat, gat!!!!" in quick succession. Went back the next day and nailed it on my own - truly great fun! Also great for family rides and I could introduce them to night rides as well.
  16. Sondela close to Warmbad is very nice. The camping facilities are excellent and the routes very nice, although not technical at all. It is, however, very nice to spot giraffes, kudus, vlakvarke, etc. whilst out on a ride - and it includes plenty of single track.
  17. 6 & 8!
  18. My wife says the same thing!
  19. My wife's got the Race Kings and I've got Mountain Kings and X Kings. All of them says Protection on the side as per Lapa's post.

    Argus 2014

I understand that they penalise older races, but that kind of negates doing any races early in the year as it is too short before this year's Argus and you get penalised when they consider them for next year's Argus. Doesn't that compromise the organisers advertising their events as seeding events for the Argus?
  21. I don't do many races as it is getting to be a very expensive endeavour - on average probably about 10 per year. I do prefer the Saturday races as it does not encroach on church time. Therefore I will limit the races I do on a Sunday in favour of Saturday ones as far as possible. I don't want this to turn into a religious debate and I understand why people would rather participate in races on a Sunday, but for this is the reason I prefer Saturdays and am enjoying the fact that there are more races on a Saturday - especially MTB ones.
  22. Just entered and paid for a team of 3. First Transbaviaans for all of us although we've ridden together a lot on tours. Really exited about this! See you guys there.
