  1. Coincidence indeed! Maybe even the same factory! We want pics Azonic!
  2. Well said Iron!
  3. @pieterg I’m also struggling with all the options. Trail & error worked in the end for me.
  4. TX for the replies. I got the Marzocchi one’s from CRC.
  5. Hubbers, I need some wisdom from the Hubber community. I’m riding a 29er hardtail with a 2011 Fox F29 Terralogic fork (straight steerer, Kashima coating, 15mm thru-axle, etc.). It’s a very nice fork. I got a good deal on a new frameset (bum itched....the rest is history), but the new frame has a tapered steerer. So now I need a new tapered fork. I’ve looked around and narrowed my options to: 1. Rock Shox Sid XX 15mm and tapered steerer (about R6500) (not World Cup), or a Fox F29 FiT RLC 15mm tapered steerer (about R9000), or maybe a new tapered Terralogic (about R 10 000). Now for the questions: 1. Will I really feel the benefit of upgrading my current fork (Terralogic) to a Sid or Fox with a tapered steerer? Wouldn’t I be better off with running a reducer bushing in the tapered head tube and ride with the current straight steerer fork? 2. Which of the two tapered forks is the better option? I’m not a hardcore cross country racer, but rather a social rider doing about 150km weekly, and an official marathon race on a monthly basis. I could sell my “old” frameset with the Fox Terralogic, but I would like to keep the frame-fork combo....and maybe convert it to a single speed to play around with. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. TX for all the replies. @Maxxis, the lock-ring is on the brakes.... Our barrel connector on the shifters stripped.
  7. TX for the clarification GBguy. I nerver knew the STX-RC range. My first MTB was a 1997 Gary Fisher Montare (XT components)..... a long time ago!
  8. Hubbers I need some assistance please. A friend of mine has a 1993 TREK ST120. The bike has full 7-speed Shimano STX RC components (...apparently it was the XTR of 1993!). The barrel connector stripped on the right shifter while changing cables. And, the shifters and cantilever brake levers are integrated (like today's matchmakers on SRAM). If we can't source a "new" shifter/unit.... what can we do? Will a 8-speed cluster fit on the 7-speed STX RC hub? Can we still source 8-speed shifters and seperate cantilever brake levers? PM me please....
  9. PM for FJP.
  10. Why this stupid obsession with weight? Sure....it's the lightest 29er in SA (....we'll post the medal! ), but it is definitely the most uncomfortable 29er in SA as well. Get a top end suspension fork (new SID or Fox Terralogic) on that frame, as well as a proper saddle. Even if the bike weighs 9kg. It will be light for 29er, and you would enjoy the ride. Come on hubbers.....ALWAYS KEEP IT REAL!
  11. TX for all the replies and feedback. I'll "play" a bit with my setup. I've also Google'd the problem quite extensively. The was a suggestion somewhere to raise the tip of my saddle a bit (angle), but not to much. My saddle was level, but raised the tip slightly. Tried it as quick fix, and it definitely worked.
  12. I've been riding MTB for almost a year now, and initially thought the problem was newby related and would go away. My hands are numb (read dead/sleeping sensation) at about 10 min into my training sessions. It recovers quickly if I change hand positions, but I quickly experience that "pins-and-needles" sensation in my hands again, in the new hand position. My bike was professionally set-up by AB CycleFit, so I doubt that the set-up is a problem. I've tried various types of grips (ODI's, ESI, etc.). I’m currently using the Specialized BG Contour Locking Grips, with gel gloves. Any suggestions or advise are welcome. I need some help please!
  13. One word.... Prolotherapy! Check out www.prolotherapy.co.za. I was suffering from an Achilles Tendon.... My physio told me to stop cycling for 12 weeks for the tendinitis to heal. Prolotherapy saved my life! 2 Sessions later and my achilles tendon is stronger than it used to be.... Even trained while on the therapy. Believe me, I was the biggest skeptic (...sorry for the typo) out there.... And have done hours of research about prolotherapy on the net. Just try it.... To believe in cortisone therapy in 2011 = Ride without any front suspension and tubes in your wheels!
  14. Here is my 29 inches of pure pleasure!
  15. Also give the Maxxis Ikon EXO's a try. Great reviews on the net. 29x2.2 with the EXO casing - 575g. But the only snag.... NO bloody stock in the whole of SA! I don't see the point of giving an importer sole distribution rights for a product.....and then they are out of stock for the majority of the year! Sorry for the rant.....but the SA cycling importers should catch a wake up! So let's wait.... I'm waiting for stock. Let's try and do the "proudly SA thing"....and buy local. Christmas is also coming....
  16. Chris, I was in the same boat. I'm now riding with 660mm wide bars (bar-ends included) on my 29er. My sweet spot....but unfortunately thus is personal preference.
  17. Any spinning instructors or hubbers who can help me with a good 45 minute spinning class program?
  18. Got mine for R7700 at my LBS.
  19. Eastons +2 Got my set of EA90Xc's about two weeks ago! WOW!
  20. TX for all the replies and comments. Does anyone have an idea what will the price be of a complete XT 2012 groupset? When can we expect LBS’s to have stock? Last question....what would be a better option for a 29er....40/28 or 38/26 (2x10) and an 11-32/34 cassette?
  21. I'm in the market for a new groupset, and would like some opinions regarding the new 2012 XT groupset vs. the SRAM X9 groupset. I would preferably go for a 3x10 system, since I still do a lot of training with my MTB on the road. So....how would these two groupsets compare, and which one should I choose? I want reliability & durability! I know there are a lot of hubbers that rate the current X9 superior to the current XT system, but will this be the case for the new 2012 XT system?
  22. TX for all the comments. I went to my GP...tendonosis/tendonitis, can't remember. Was refered to a physio. On rehab as we speak....and dying to get on the road for a proper training ride. The physio also commented that my hip flexors could be weak on one side....thus the problem on the one leg. So I'm busy with excercises to strengthen my hip flexors. I've also came across Prolotherapy. Any comments on this treatment for tendons?
  23. The pain....and a lump/knot in my tendon is about 1cm a above my ankle bone, if you draw a straight line from the ankle bone to the back of the leg. It definitely not the heel or the muscle. Maybe rest is what is needed.
