  1. Did anyone follow the Cape Town marathon elite races on the weekend? Some impressive runs.

Based on a formula developed by Dr Ross Tucker, "adjusted times" that take into account the altitude at different race venues (Potchefstroom, Pretoria, Cape Town), the final results were produced. I've added a pic explaining the time adjustments.

Bongmusa Mthembu ran a 2:17:31in Cpt so no adjustment and finished tied 4th.

Edward Mothibi smashed it in Potchefstroom with a 2:16:48 but this was adjusted to 2:13:11 to win overall.

Phillimon Mathibi was in Pretoria and ran 2:18:29 but adjusted to 2:14:49.

This is the part I'm not sure I agree with. There is no doubt that times will be quicker at sea level but deciding a race outcome based on a formula reminds me a bit too much of how the Proteas got knocked out of the World Cup cricket because of a formula nobody understands (Duckworth Lewis).

Why was the event actually held at three venues? Wouldn't Cape Town have worked for an elites only race?

    Thoughts?

I agree , should have been held at one venue where they could easily have controlled everything with a limited field. Everyone racing on a different type of course just doesn't make it a fair contest.

  2. If you don't find cycling to be fun then I think you should not futher going this route.  I personally only get time at the moment for maybe 4-5 hours a week on cycling but I absolutely enjoy it.  No I am in no racing condition unless your definition of racing is outsprinting the mail man to the the next lamp post.  But I simply enjoy cycling out in nature and setting myself my own personal goals and see if I can achive them.  Even like TNT1 shows here, if it is chasing Strava KOM's

Mail Man , Whats that ? Cant remember last since I have seen one .....

  3. We bought a muna balance bike for our now 5 year old when he turned 2 , took him a while to get the confidence and balance but it made the transition to riding a bike with pedals so much easier.

His brother who turns 2 in November has already got the hang of the balance bike. He cant get enough of it especially when there are nice puddles to ride through.

Those muna bikes aren't exactly cheap but totally worth it as ours has been put through its paces and is still going strong.

  4. Don't...home affairs is also on my list at some stage for a new ID and passport.....

At the moment you can't even apply for those due to lockdown. But when you can save yourself time , aggravation and stress and do the application online through the banks. We did it last year and was such a breeze.

  5. Its my moms account and I've made numerous payments this month for her...well over the R300 mark...?

I wanted to add a new beneficiary for her and that's when I noticed the phone was not verified....

All other payments were made to pre-existing beneficiaries that basically receive the same payment amounts each month...

How long has it been ? I had the same issue but after the required 7 days it was verified.

  6. Never used one. But seems a good price. Just the flasks would be about £10 each I'd imagine?

Your biggest issue would be getting it to SA. Not very likely for a long time unless you know someone on a repatriation flight?

Yes , the flasks alone go for about that. We planning on immigrating to the UK , would have actually left this month if it wasn't for covid. Will have it delivered to my MIL in the UK and she can keep it till we get there.
  7. Advantage of running is (1) you are slower so more time to react to anything in the road you need to avoid and (2) oncoming cars are on your side so its also easy to see if you need to quickly step onto the sidewalk or move further to the side if it looks like the car is going to be close. I love running in the dark...cycling I'm definitely more nervous.

On most of my runs that happens about 80% of the time  :cursing:  .........even early morning runs when there is just 1 car on the road and they can easily give a wide berth.

  8. thats the one. Lekker spot. I think the Liverpool fan club of jozi had their meetings there. Place used to be littered with them

It's the "home" of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club Gauteng.

From what I've heard it was the place to go to watch live matches when we were allowed to.

  9. Moons ago there was a saints fan club in jozi.... it tried to get started and to be fair lasted a wee while but then just dissaptated really. I dont think it even survived onto facebook so would of died pre 2007 ish.

I had a good mate who is a united fan and he was on the committee so i would tag along whenever united were playing saints... they had huge turnouts , over 500 sometimes.

Liverpool club ZA used ot meet at that pub with all the motorbikes in it near Greenstone , forget name, and they would also count in their hundreds, one game i did go to there musta been more than 500 easy ...

  10. So, I commented yesterday that I would be keen to try a run using the Garmin data field. I never got to run, for reasons posted below, but I have since found an app on the Apple Watch (Power2Run) which Is keen to try in parallel with my Garmin. So if you see someone running with two devices on, it’s me, not DCRainmaker.

As for the reason not to run, I had to change plans as I got the news from my Mom that my Dad has passed away. We knew it was coming and we said our goodbyes on Saturday. My next run, like last night’s Zwift ride, might just empty the tank.

Condolences to you and your family Gerald , RIP

  11.

I went online and just disconnected my package . I chose the soonest date which was available on the options. My subscription was disconnected on said date but a final debit order still went off for that month.

Had a look at my balance and it was showing a negative amount . Used the chat option on the website to ask for a refund and after waiting half hour eventually got a response . It will take 7 to 14 working days for the refund , this was done yesterday so I will wait and see.

  12. With the wife having to work from home our 20g lte telkom plan just wasn't going to cut it with all the microsoft teams meetings and such , so we decided to go for an uncapped fibre line with afrihost as fibre was available in our complex.

After googling a bit i realized we could use our PS3 to get netflix , amazon video , youtube and redbull tv. DSTV cancelled and there is more than enough for everyone to watch . Should have done this sooner.
