  1. Eish! Glad Simon is ok, but as previous posters have said this is getting ridiculous now! That is on the first km of any ride I do! Well done to the helpers! Time now to buy pepper spray, any advice on what make and where to get it CT?
  2. Can't find the double face palm emoticon!!! Admin please help!
  3. sub 3 seems a stretch! Wasnt sure if I could even get to 3hr30. Think I may set that as my goal!
  4. 1.56 tall and weigh 74kgs
  5. Please don't flame me for this silly question!! I know its a hell of a strange heading for a topic, but I have no idea!! Did 2013 Argus in 6hrs 01, Did 2014 Argus in 4hrs40min with my bikes front derailleur busted and my chain stuck on the big ring. Also didn't do that much training, probably 8 70 to 80km training rides and a couple of the Tuesday night sessions at Killarney. Want to up my game considerably during the course of this year and do more races. I am 45, started smoking again. Looking for some sort of idea of what factors affect the target I set myself, and are there training programmes that include the off Season?

    Argus 2014

Very Happy with this years result! Was hoping for a sub 5, got to the top of Edinburgh Drive and had a failure on the front derailleur!!! Stuck on the big chain ring I thought it was over. Picked up a guy doing his second lap in Fishhoek and rode the rest with him. Over Smits, Chappies and Suikerbossie on big chainring was an eye opener! Big ups to those who do it on SS. Landed up finishing in 4h40 after trying for 10mins to fix derailleur so VERY chuffed with that result!
  7. My kind of Oreo!!
  8. I am not one to normally comment on potentially explosive topics, but feel so disgusted and outraged at this incident I cannot help myself!!! To the "cyclists" on the video..... Thank you very much! I deeply appreciate the luminous target you have painted on my back!!!!! Its great to act like a pack of rabid dogs when there are a number of you together! (Please note I was not there so am not apportioning blame to any group!) Your testosterone induced rage has done more to damage the already fragile relationship between cyclists and motorists than any single incident in Cape Town Cycling history. Your selfishness in acting out as a gang of "vigilantes" will have far reaching effects on ALL cyclists for years to come! Your feelings of being invincible in a group may stop motorists from reacting to groups of riders in the future, however it will make those of us who prefer to ride in solitude, (for those of you in the video who have no grasp of English, punctuation or Capital letters, Solitude means riding on our own), a far easier target for aggressive motorists! If you are indeed members of a club and spend any time at all riding the Argus route, you will know that it is a risky route to ride, you will know motorists are unpredictable, you will know that 70kgs of body and a 10kg bike will always come 2nd to a ton of car! To the club involved, Mr Chairman, please have the balls to publicly admonish the degenerates who have crept into your club! They should be publicly named, publicly shamed and banned from competing in any sanctioned event for Life!! I guarantee you that a life WILL be lost on Cape Town roads as a direct result of this incident! It is such a shame that of the thousands of cyclists who have lobbied for the City of Cape Town to accept us as road users, who follow the rules of the road, who promote cycling safety, it only takes a small group 59 seconds to destroy it! There, I have said it all politely. That in no way contains any of the words or sentences I would like to use!!

  16. Thanks, took it out last night for a good burn. Couple of settings to adjust but a sweet ride!
  17. Not much to some, but lovingly built up from second hand parts collected over 8 months! Now to start saving for some decent wheels!
  18. Looking forward to building this tonight. Been a long wait!
  19. Nothing quite like challenging a good single track or downhill, out in a forest, enjoying the scenery, brain working overtime trying to "see" into the next corner or obstacle. Nothing quite like the quiet "whirrrr' of wheels and hubs gliding over tar at speed, mind in a place of its own as you challenge your legs to keep on pumping to achieve greater speed! The answer is "BOTH!"
  20. I like it A LOT!
  21. We trash so many LBS's here, I thought I would just give a shout out for a change. I have limited budget and needed new wheels so popped into CWC to buy the Shimano R500's they previously had. Unfortunately there was no stock available. Had a quick chat to Junior on the way out and he says hold on, goes to the back and comes out with a new pair of Alex Wheels for me at half the price. Bonus, I got new wheels and had enough change to buy a new cassette, chain and multi tool for what I had planned to spend on the wheels. Not many LBS's go so far out of their way to help someone only spending R1000! Thanks Junior!
  22. You bought from them? My Dad left me his Omega Seamaster before he passed away. Was thinking of getting a replica to wear as Im terrified of losing his, obviously don't want it to look too fake.
  23. Same thing happens ALL over the country. Unfortunately not everyone is as caring about the environment as others are. The mentality amazes me that they will go out and enjoy a clean environment, yet are too lazy to take their crap away with them. And if you have the audacity to confront them regarding their mess !
  24. Sorry I wont be able to join in this year, have our Sales Conference that weekend! Thoroughly enjoyed the ride last year!
