  1. e-Bikes should not be a problem if they start at the back and only overtake when safe to do so. In other words, don't ask for track, don't overtake on single track but rather wait for the road to be wide enough so you can pass. This was my only gripe on Fedhealth MTB, errr, Argus MTB, errr, CTCT MTB errr The MTB Challenge - knew I'd get to the current name eventually.
  2. LOL Oom Paul is turning 70 in December and I doubt he will switch to a ebike or dualie any time soon. He still doing OK on his old 1x9 setup (30t x 11t - 40t).
  3. Let me put it this way - I ride a hardtail cause I think dualies are for sissies.
  4. Yup, he never misses it
  5. The route or the other riders?
  6. This could be a nice alternative for the now missing 1 day race that the Cederberg 100 miler used to offer.
  7. There is a 30km from what I recall. Last time I rode it I was in the 60km but just recovered from a nasty cold so I downgraded to the 30km.
  8. Last year was epic! I have always enjoyed this ride and at the new venue it was perfect. Guess I'll wait a week and do Fine Breede instead.
  9. Interesting. The route looks very scenic.
  10. I did this last year and the new format does not work for me. I much preferred the previous years when it was a Saturday morning ride with a fairly demanding long route that was oh so rewarding upon finishing it. This also happens to fall on the same day as the Fine Breede MTB.
  11. Definitely in for this one. A favourite of mine on the yearly MTB calendar.
  12. OK, makes sense then. I could ride everything with flats although I did have to put my foot out on some of those switchbacks.
  13. Just out of curiosity, do you ride with cleats or flat pedals? LOL - I think they can help to increase the rider total, and income, an event makes. But yeah - start at the back, do not ask to pass - do so only when safe.
  14. I'm rich, fat, arrogant and ride a normal bike. So I'm better than you.
  15. The opposite, for the loose. They should start at the back and be told not to ask for track. They can over take on jeep track. With those rules in place I won't mind them. When we went through there everybody was still riding, but it is rather scary because the drop on the side is steep. I enjoyed it.
  16. My condolences to those who were not strong enough to ride this on their own steam. If an alcoholic, near 40 year old, overweight rider, on a 2014 hardtail can finish this.... nee jinne.
  17. There was plenty of white gold in the portaloos when I took a pre-ride dump just before 7am. This was good, it was demanding and I expected it to be. Perhaps I was convincing myself it was harder than it actually was because I finished feeling pretty good. Did dial it back a bit and came in a nudge over 4 hours. A proper MTB Challenge I'd say - good job PPA.
  18. Starting early means you will finish early. It's going to be the same for me in the Argus. My performance is down, I'm on a MTB. I'll be last in 2A.
  19. Same. I'll start at the back where I belong. It's been over 18 months since I last did this route and for me the most demanding is that climb after you go under Helshoogte. Followed by those climbs towards reaching the finish.
  20. Take me to work
  21. Talking me home
  22. To a hot place.
  23. Going home.
  24. I prefer Saturday races. Sundays are there for nurse a hangover.
