  1. Ah, ok, that would make sense - my bad.
  2. I totally hate e-bikes but the race organisers are e-bike friendly so you'll just have to live with that. I do think they should start way at the back though. People in Stellenbosch complain (a lot) when there are bike events that even slightly disrupt traffic. As things are Stellenbosch has a lot of traffic issues as it is and unless they complete a road around town to alleviate the flow of traffic things won't change. Land owners DO NOT charge for access to the farms, we sure did not and the race does go over quite a bit of our farm next to Spier. We paid for entry like everyone else and it was worth it. Trafficops is the big expense and the old format required plenty of them.
  3. Doubt that will happen again. The town of Stellenbosch has ousted all cycling events, and there were many, Die Burger (road and MTB), Medallion, One tonner - to name but a few. One thing they could do is have a longer and more technical route that goes under the R44 and take on some of the Eden trails. In the end it comes down to running a well organised event that is profitable. Remember in 2017 there were no sponsors and Dirtopia pulled off the last "big" format Die Burger all on their own. Moving the ride to Spier causes less traffic issues in Stellenboch while still being profitable.
  4. I actually enjoyed the sand last year, just one more terrain you are missing out on if you join the Cleatside Boys. But no sand this year sadly.
  5. Loved the first half, wish I could do the last half... Stick 1 - Silverback 0 Hope I can find a replacement for it tomorrow.
  6. I'm in. Hopefully not getting a massive nail in my tyre 5km before the end this year.
  7. Blame the town of Stellenbosch - no more rides are hosted in town. One Tonner was the last one to die. The new long (50km) route : https://www.strava.com/activities/1735050957 The old long (75km) route : https://www.strava.com/activities/1108442292 I'm in for Sunday
  8. Shorter kids races on the Saturday and the longer ones on the Sunday from what I recall.
  9. Biggest attraction for me was that I could ride to the start. Thanks for the 4 wonderful One Tonners, but I'm not doing this one. Actually after my first (2013) it took me 3 years before I attempted it again It was fun while it lasted but it seems Stellenbosch has become very unfriendly to hosting cycle events (Medallion, Die Burger/Stellenbosch Cycle Challenge and now One Tonner).
  10. Really loved this last year, ran the 1.5km behind my daughter on the Saturday and did the long ride on Sunday - what a challenge that was! Sadly it is the same weekend as Wolseley so I'll be heading out there this year.
  11. The reality is that it caused to much of a disruption to the town and was very costly. Look at the Stellenbosch Cycle Challenge and One Tonner - all of these events moved out of Stellenbosch. Took a stroll with the family on the single track next to Eersteriver this afternoon, less than a month to go.
  12. OK, with this morning's commute included I am 6th with 3188.57 km. Not sure where that leaves you
  13. Thanks. Too small for me, but I love it - so nimble. That Kona totally changed my view on 26ers I keep it with the excuse that it's my daughters next bike after she out grows her 20" Titan.
  14. Tree is gone, they are laying a new cable to the substation behind BP Dorp Street, so they made quick work of it.
  15. No bunny hops before I had my first cup of coffee
  16. To a tree that was in my path.
  17. I see : So my afternoon commutes disqualify me.
  18. I do yes, I keep stats of it too, car VS bike commutes. So far this year I have gone to work 100 times, 93 was by bike and 7 by car. Never heard of the commuters challenge though. In the morning I usually take an 11km ride on the roads, afternoons I get in a bit of training on the trails, average about 22km.
  19. Yep, that was me. I usually ride through there on my way home. https://www.sports-tracker.com/workout/rouxenator/5d09077c0f3e49b600a659ce
  20. Where it has taken me the last 35 months... 24,000km.
  21. Trails were awesome today, saw a few other riders too. Two questions though : 1) Will it be possible to get a tap outside the fence here? I always made use of the one behind the locked gate. 2) The last bit of Fish Eagle (below the orange orchard) is a muddy mess with the boardwalk taken out. Is this going to be moved to outside the new fence they are putting up? Still had an amazing time out there today.
