  1. I realised that this is the first year I never rode the road bike on the commute. Only rode it twice in 2019, once on the Argus and once on the One Tonner. MTB every other day. Some pics from the usual ride home.
  2. I'm keen too. I did the 2018 Fed Health (the one that was not a big cluster f...k) and it was a killer. Imagine that at the end of February when it's nice and toasty outside.
  3. So this is the same route as Fedhealth ?
  4. Tandem? I won't even commute on a road bike. It's either mostly my 29er or when that is not possible the 26er.
  5. I am more patient on the bike, for example when I can lane split to the front of the line at traffic lights. I am way more impatient when I take the car and realise how much less freedom I have.
  6. Thanks, very slow week for me... Tuesday I dropped the car off for some work and walked to the bike shop to picked up my 26er that was in for a service - so only half the commute to work. They did not put enough air in the fork so I could not take my usual rocky route home... short commute home. Yesterday the afternoon commute was cut in half as I had to go pick up the car again. Today I will hopefully get in the usual 11 + 25 on my 29er. Odo rolled over to 27,000 on the way to work.
  7. I was planning on my usual lekker 25km this afternoon, but instead of going home I have to visit the folks on the farm, so I'm down to 6km. Edit : Plans changed and went home, a bit shorter.
  8. Realistically speaking we only have 46 days left of the year (and decade - let that sink in). Of those days it is only 23 work days left for me. So at best I'll be adding 800km, maybe less.
  9. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. What does kill you, makes you twice as strong - Dom Mazzetti, BroScienceLife I suffered a bit to work today and yesterday realised that because my after noon commute is more than double as long as the morning one, I still get wind
  10. Yeah, was not a lot of fun to work today since it was head on for me. Hopefully going back home after work will be more pleasant.
  11. I actually had an experience inline with this today. I got in touch with 4 LBS for crown race / headset base spacer and each and everyone of them came back to me with some sort of BS answer. I already ordered the part off ebay was looking for one I'll get my hands on sooner. Made a post here on bikehub, got a link to an online seller bought what I needed - get's delivered tomorrow.
  12. In my case I just try the next one, I have had both good service as well as shoddy service from the same shops. If one does not do something right I move on to the next one until they slip up with something. Rinse and repeat.
  13. I wonder who lives in the most hilly area and what kind of climbing they get up to if you look at it over a year of commuting? My usual ride to work has about 110m and going home it's 480m but seeing as sometimes it's could be less I'm going with 500m per day. Today being the 160th day I am using the bike that's about 80+km of ascent so far.
  14. Meh, from 6th to 8th and have not been on the bike since Thursday. That should teach me.
  15. Tell me about it and to top it all off the car was not happy about it either.
  16. I think I will forfeit 6 today, raining like mad so I took the car...
  17. Me and some guys in the office play Xonotic over lunch time (12:30 to 13:30) so if you like 'n lekker fast (free) arena shooter then come and join. Server is called "Zombie Apocalypse" and if you join you'll see why.
  18. Could be, it is a private game farm.
  19. Well played. At the speed I climb I would have fallen over. What did they say at the start was the reason we could not go up the old route? I heard them talking about it but was too far back.
  20. Absolutely perfect day out there. Followed my standard MO to ensure that I will be funriding and not racing. Way too much red wine last night and got to bed much too late. I was riding at the back and took it easy, thankfully I was so slow no SPD riders annoyed me, not even the nice lady from Maties that I was behind on The Cobra. She took corners slowly with one foot clipped out. She did say "Jammer" on the 3rd turn and I replied "Geen probleen, die pace werk vir my". On Fair Cape Milkshake she apparently had a bad fall but still manage to out ride me and some other 60km riders so good for her. The last climb was is much harder now that we go straight and I managed to ride up until 10 meter after the cement section. Been a while since I pushed my bike but at least I was in comfy tekkies. That Boomslang added to the descent is pure bliss. All in all I'm very happy and enjoyed the 4h15 out on the trails today.
  21. The 45 and 60 comes down there at the end. So I don't think they will have other routes going up there.
  22. It's not the distance, if there are 5x 4m sections that is 5 times I have to stop and wait before I can ride. I have no problem with people riding SPD, just make sure you can handle it on all terrain. Otherwise join me and the other #noobs with out flats.
  23. Done it many times. Pros are a different story, but your average weekend rider - just no.
