  1. Thanks for the advice , I will definitely try this at the 94.7
  2. The highlighted bit is one of the biggest issues for me. I also battle to get into a rhythm in a race - guess I over estimate my abilities sometimes
  3. I would also be interested in this. I am new to road bike racing - have only done 6 races. An added issue for me is that I start slow, which means I can never stay with the batch I am starting with - and I have to latch onto passing groups. If I can improve some techniques, learn from more experienced riders, etc it will be a awesome. I am more than willing to do my fair share at the front as well, just normally don't get the chance Starting slow has never been a problem in mountain bike races as I tend to pass a lot of people towards the end of the race and finish in the top third of the field, but in road races I am a lot more "exposed" and normally end in the bottom third of the field. I stayed with my starting batch this past weekend at Carnival, but burnt too many matches at the start and got spat out the back of my bunch around the 35km mark - and then had to solo home, latching onto people here and there
  4. Use a rapide bar, stem, chain on more than one bike - and have had no issues so far. Service from Wayne as everyone else have said is top notch!
  5. Gerald a quick question around parking on the morning of the road race - doing the race for the first time. Is it park anywhere inside the Casino facility or a specific area like at the 94.7? Thanks
  6. The best advice I can give (that was given to me previously) and that definitely works, is to ride with people that ride faster than you. If you normally ride solo, try to join a group ride or join a club. I improved my average speed from 17km/h to 20km/h by doing this
  7. I'm also in J batch and aiming for a sub 3:30 - so if we can work together to achieve this then great, my only issue with falling back is I am a slow starter (think Diesel engine) so will probably not be able to keep up with the group at the start. If the "group" can be easily identified I can latch on when you come pass me, this however is a little bit of a hit and miss affair especially with the amount of people doing the race
  8. Started in P last year, up to J this year
  9. Also in for this one, doing the 20 with my dad - he is starting to cycle again after a few months off the bike
  10. Glad you are OK. Areas are getting less and less that you can safely ride alone or in a small group
  11. Hotspot sells Scott so you can probably take your bike to them. But I see you are in Centurion, so like other have said I will recommend Tool-up Cycles. Even though they do not sell Scott Bikes they picked up a hairline crack in my chainstay during a service and did the whole warranty process with Scott SA for me and did the chainstay replacement
  12. If it's the same route as last year, then climbing is just under 800m according to my gps
  13. Couldn't make the one earlier in the year, definitely in for this one
  14. Here is the link - http://rekordcenturion.co.za/71200/women-attacked-in-groenkloof/ Looks the same as the one posted by Hennie however
  15. Ahhh crap!!! That sucks... was hoping for some great action in the Alps But his health is more important, wishing him the best and a speedy recovery!
  16. I have seen it at quite a few shops, can't remember all of them but I have bought it previously at Tool-up cycles and Torqzone in Centurion. And I am sure I have seen it at Summit Cycles, and Solomons Woodmead as well
  17. +1 Then there is also http://www.tool-upcycles.co.za/ and although I haven't personally been there yet, there is also http://www.thebicyclecompany.co.za/about-the-bicycle-company
  18. Hi, did you manage to find trail maps of the routes in Montagu? I am going there in the next few months and would like to take my bike with. Thanks
  19. My last badge is also not showing - after my ride this morning i'm over 600km. To re-sync the profile also doesn't work
  20. Only had a single ride last week , so still need the 30hrs, 5895m and 600km. But if all goes according to plan I should have them all by Sunday morning
  21. Still need the 5895m, 600km and 30hrs. Should make them easily enough with 2 weeks left
