  1. I've run the Hope / Arch combination very successfully on a singlespeed and I am NOT a light rider. Definitely would go for these above the American classic. You just have to be careful, as all these hubs have aluminium cassette bodies, so going for the hope singlespeed hub may be a better option (or getting a steel body).
  2. One of our local PMB riders, Clint Olsen, is now working at Wolfi's... Might be worth getting hold of him?
  3. I found the best to use is a "narrow" singlespeed halflink (1/2x3/32) - its narrower than a normal BMX chain, but more reliable than 9sp and the halflink means you are more likely to get your chain the right length! Take this up the World cup climbs with a 32 x 18 gearing on a 26" and not had hassles with slipping or snapping.
  4. Since there is always arguments around nutrition and supplements based around specific brands, I thought it would be nice for some to share general info and independent resources, which can be used to make an educated decision. A site I have come across is http://www.informed-choice.org who have a pretty straightforward nutrition guide http://www.informed-choice.org/sites/default/files/pdf/Guide-to-Nutrition.pdf Is there any other INDEPENDANT research / laboratories?
  5. Does this scare anyone? http://www.menshealth.com/health/supplement-problems If ANYONE is using anything - these guys test by batch and flavour etc to see if what is on the label is ALL that is in the product (Locally Gu is I think one of the only commonly avail products) http://www.informed-choice.org
  6. @mcg - Mongoose did have a few of the meteore team bikes (with XX/ Fox etc) in 26 inch still around in the warehouse a little while back. When I had one, it came in at 9.7 with pedals etc totally stock. Worth asking to see if they have any still left!
  7. Probably one of the few people that have ridden both (I used to own an HX2!). The chumba had great handling, but is still outclassed by the Pyga. On weight there is no question - Pyga will be over 0.5kg's lighter for the frame! (The chumba was well over 2kg's for HT frame!). And you won't have to deal with that constantly creaking eccentric BB on the Chumba.
  8. Well, a lot of design input on the frames came from C-Sixx's Mark Hopkins (Of Leatt fame), so going to be twisting his arm for a custom tensioner to fit the frame (cos I really have to have one of these and SS is the way )
  9. I was lucky enough to ride the hardtail a little while back (on proper, Karkloof trails - not a parking lot!), along with the dual sus. Phenomenal is the only way to describe it. Able to compare it to a number of similar style / priced frames that I have ridden, and they do not come close in that range. Handling is superb, and power transfer brilliant. Only issue is that in order to achieve this, the frame uses an X12 rear axle system, so make sure your hub is convertible, or you may need to get a new back hub / wheel (but it is definitely worth it!) Personal preferance is towards the hardtail (but I am a single speeder, so back shocks just feel strange to me!)
  10. Of course I will have to! She is too beautiful not to! (unfortunately she may make my SS a little jealous!)
  11. So just heard that I will be there with the camera, so SMILE
  12. Agreed! Too often it seems the world of psychology (and the professionals therein) and the world of sportsmen are vastly separated. I am guessing that this is a field you are involved in? Drop me a PM maybe - would love to chat further, as I am situated in both worlds as a coach and trained in psych... but rarely get the opportunity to join the two. Would love to hear your thoughts on how this can be used / made to happen in the sporting world.
  13. Too often the top athletes neglect the mental aspect of training and racing. Even basic psychology talks of the integration of mind and body, and how the mental state has a direct impact on physical state. Stress and anxiety being a primary cause of poor performance, along with negative emotional states affecting the ability to push physical boundaries. BUT are there many out there working with the top athletes locally on the mental aspect of racing?
  14. Hey Everyone, was out shooting the Cascades racing this weekend, so if you want a preview of the World Cup action, go check out some of the images... Elite XC: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.294389800628069.66707.132801176786933&type=3 DH - http://www.vitalmtb.com/ - main news stories on the right
  15. Sorry, would prefer not to post the image at this point until I have had the opportunity to discuss with the team manager responsible for the team to find out who exactly is responsible. You can see how I do my logo (with a copyright claim on it) at www.facebook.com/cychomedia
  16. Thanks Danger for the links. Didn't rush off and invoice (knowing that need to first find who is responsible). Traced things back to whoever is sending out news releases, and manager is in town, so will have a polite conversation with him tomorrow. And no images were not shot for the team, but for the event rather!
  17. @JGR - it was an image I took, which had my logo embedded on it... so someone intentionally removed my logo and claimed ownership
  18. Thanks TNT, but was gonna leave it like that just to make me feel better by irritating the grammar nazi's
  19. @ Tiny - I agree, it is not at all to do with the financial aspect. It has to do with the blatant cropping of an image to remove the info without so much as even asking (and yes the team manager in question actually has my phone number!)
  20. Thanks jagwill... we will blame the lack of grammar on irritation
  21. No @swiss. Turns out according to the response from the federation, it was the team in question who sent out a news release with the image attached. I will be seeing said team manager tomorrow and am tempted to take along a lovely printed invoice written out in pounds.
  22. Thanks @Eiger - just written a mail to the Editor and Board of the Federation.
  23. Question: What is an appropriate response to a National Cycling Federation (Not local) taking one of your images off a website and cropping out all credit information (watermarked logo) and not adding any credit to the image on their site?
  24. Cumberland reserve is also just out of town - they have a few little rustic camping options and should be very affordable! Some old details - but contacts should work! http://www.sabirding.co.za/birdspot/040252.asp
  25. From Mr Price Cycle Club on FB... " was in theatre last night...although uncomfortable, he is doing well...."
