  1. Wheels sound good - run the same rims on Ringle hubs and love them. The fork is a pure racing fork, made for lightweight and not durability. If its weight loss you're after, then yes, otherwise Fox is still the best when it comes to reliability.
  2. You are all forgetting the one golden rule! ... The Couch!
  3. I learnt the other day that it sometimes is nice to know where the entry fees are going. Often it is into someone's pocket unfortunately (thus not really benefitting the sport, but people have a right to make a living.) The other day I actually asked an event organiser where the money was going...and the response was that the race was funding a new BMX racing track in the community (where at present there is none). Awesome that there are those that are looking out for the good of the sport of cycling as a whole. So I am waiting to see this new track, as apparently all the legal tape is finally being cleared up, due to municipal land being used.
  4. I ran the KCNC 29/42 for the last 7 months and loved them! Just means less shifting up front. Cranks were actually stiffer than the set of FSA K-Force Carbons I took off, and lighter. Just got my bike with XX on, so will see how that compares, but am going to miss my KCNC's.
  5. If you in a rush, go the the guys at www.rushsports.co.za - they have stock (ok just spotted the pun now!). You'll need new adaptors as well. Log onto their online store or give Andre a call.
  6. Unfotunately never ridden the GT, but on about my 7th Mongoose metore (I just cant resist getting the new ones! - even after a foray into a few other brands). Probably one of the best handling bikes around, and can handle me at 90kgs! Frame is also lighter than the GT. I also have a personal preference for SRAM - shifting is more exact and firmer, and performs better when dirty. Fox's RLC forks do also have a bit more adjustment, but performance is similar. So in my opinion....MONGOOSE! (presume u getting it off the Obike sale - damn good price!) (And just got myself the 2010 meteore with full XX - she's a beauty!)
  7. At least its not as ugly as Lance's! http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2010/07/06/1278406272532-1pqeoefm2cncp-500-90-500-70.jpg

    BMX Racing

Bikes make a major difference - esp ito geometry and weight balances. Gimme a shout if u have any specific questions.
  9. The R600 is a non-groupset component, generally in the quality range of 105 / older Ultegra. Basically created as an aftermarket compact crank that will match any groupset. I run one on my road bike and have been very happy with it.
  10. Check out the new site www.easygadget.co.za (linked to easygis)- some nice lookin lights!
  11. Came across this site http://www.ghostbikes.org/ and thought that given the current situation on our roads, it may be worth getting up and going in SA... Looks like a good way to remember those friends and family we have lost, and create awareness of cycists on the roads. Ghost BikesDarrenG2010-05-25 03:00:06

    Death Stats

maybe a suggestion would be to extend it to any serious instances, as a dangerous spot may not have claimed many lives, but may be more risky despite this. I think if you focus on just deaths, its not going to give the true picture of the peril we face every day.
  13. And good ol' UShaka...what a place to ride!
  14. So I thought I would add some of the local stuff...the back yard of Pietermaritzburg!
  15. OOh...tell me who / how
  16. So anyone else out there that appears to be the lucky winner of one million pounds lately? Guys are good...even respond personally to your emails, until you call silversands, who deny any involvement! They don't even ask you for your bank details up front like most idiots...but rather give you a British phone no to call at the Bank of Scotland!
  17. ...or put it in a vice and stress it till it breaks to see if that is the weak point!
  18. only real way to know...get the carbon x-ray ppl in!
  19. that explains my mystery bubbles as well...thought i rode over some funny rocks or something.
  20. Its actually not in the pull! The trick to get it to the right point is in the leg kick...almost like you are kicking your bike away from u. Use your legs to adjust...and the brakes if you go too far over. Also keep your body back and high...gives you better balance.
  21. Yeah...sounds like a crank puller job! Sorry - my experience was with the deus cranks where the dust cap thread is too big for a crank puller. You do get a special little metal piece that will fit inside the spline so you can pull them, but its made by shimano, and shops tend to hang on to them like gold!
  22. Unfortunately had the same issue the other day...ended up getting a new cap...I know the guys from race face have tons, cos we aren't the only ones this has happened to! Tried a standard crank extractor...that doesn't work either. Best to ask around at shops for the caps...got mine for R50.
  23. One of the guys in Dundee did something like this...can't access the pics on the web anymore, but can give u his contact details if u want...sure he would be happy to help out.
  24. No fair...still nothing for me!
