  1. These are looking hot, with rumoured retail of around R30 000... and should be in SA soon http://cdn.mongoose.com/catalog/product/cache/108/image/878x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/m/_/m_12_METEL_WHT_6.jpg

    Momsen MTB

Captain - u a bit sow on the uptake - they have 3 to choose from - go check out the site www.momsenbike.com - The Dual link 6 gonna be R18500 according to the site (with some damn awesome specs!)! Was looking on behalf of a mate... And I can't yet comment on the ride quality... don't work for them or ride one yet... but got an AL329 frame thats gonna be my next SS project...

    Momsen MTB

As far as I know he designed for Raleigh in SA for most of their recent years? (Techno-gurus correct me if I'm wrong?)

    Momsen MTB

Um... that would be Victor Momsen
  5. Hey Nige... Nice photoshopping I'd go white... gold can go very wrong if not done perfectly!
  6. Where u based? What you need to find is a group of kids that has someone "guiding" them... that way its more social, and if she's riding Mountain Bike, they can help with things like skills etc.
  7. Question is - can you make up the R1500 by selling your old bike (if in good condition!) - If so means you have a new bike with a much better frame for the same cost as upgrading part of your current bike! Definitely would be worth going for the new bike... check with your local bike shop, as Mongoose was running a special on the 2010 Meteore comp for R6500 a few weeks ago (might be better parts kit). Also please clarify with your LBS, as they are leading you on in terms of the Meteore comp model - it will definitely not be the 2012 model, as 1 - they are not in the country, and 2 - I have it on very good info that the 2012 model with only be a 29er, with the tyax models running 26". (Worth waiting for the 29er maybe?)
  8. Been chatting on email to the cyclespro guys today - seemed positive with good prices... very close to what it would probably cost to get the same stuff from the UK site and adding import (15%)...without all the import hassles
  9. I'll match the saddle with this one that is on my jump bike (but needs to go back onto my ss I think )
  10. Now if only people would bring this kinda stuff in locally at good prices, so we could actually suport the local suppliers...
  11. Anyone know where you can get a set like this locally for a good price? Some of the guys ar just too steep, but too lazy to try make it up myself.
  12. From what i have been told they are banned during racing? - Had hassles racing in a pair before, but no-one could tell me why!
  13. If Cascades World cup is doable on a 32x18 (29er) anything is possible
  14. Really starting to enjoy mine... more than enough power. i am running them on a Chumba 29er hardtail. I think a 180mm rotor is definitely needed on the front end (had a 185mm before), but that is a given for any brakes on a 29er at my size! Levers are nice and small - easy one finger braking. Still running the std organic pads and rotors - will change to sintered as soon as i wear through these or the rains arrive. Going to have to give them a good bleeding at some stage though - still a bit spongey for my liking...
  15. Cyclespro are promoting themselves as the agents now in SA (Kiwi VERY sadly seems to not be doing them anymore ) - maybe hunt them down - they on the hub. But only seem to be promoting some supplements and thats it - no mention of bikes as yet!

    Chumba EVO G2

Hey Nige... U need to take my Chumba for a ride, then u will understand
  17. Took my SLP's for their first proper ride today... Still trying to make up my mind about them, as they have a very different feel to my solid old Deores. Setup was really easy, but they are feeling a bit spongey out the box - may need a good bleeding (which should not be the case with a new set of brakes). They do have a nice modulated feel about them though... Not the grab or nothing of some brands. Then again I am 90kgs plus on a good day, running 160mm rotors on 29er wheels - still more than enough stopping power in some of the hairiest sections I could find...
  18. @ Kiwi - Those Mosso forks look cool - any chance of finding one for my single speed???

    10-spds in DH

The only advantage I can think of (and the reasoning the ridiculous roadies use to justify their overkill on gears) is that there is the potential to run slightly closer gear ratios, in the hope of always being in the "right" gear... *disclaimer* - at this point in my life I am a die-hard single-speeder, and realise that the "right" gear is the one you are in (esp cos there is no choice about the matter )
  20. Received my set of SLP's yesterday. Still need to put them on the bike, but out the box look really good, and incredibly light! Great service from Francois as well I'll post a review as soon as I've put them through their paces on the PMB World Cup Course.
  21. I've been running entry level Eastons for a while (at 90kg's plus) - stiff as hell and no hassles in a couple of years! - definitely good value for money... just not so sure of the reliability of the lighter models - remember some comments a while back?
  22. Point no 6.... Because we can!!!!!!
  23. Also my weapons of choice... U need to find something that also suits the kind of terrain you will be running on - trail shoes dont do so well on the road! The right shoe is also going to save you a lot in the long run - cheap shoes = many physio appointments. Like a good bike setup, shoes are even more important due to the pounding on your knees from the impact.
  24. This is is definitely being put in the "greatest shooting memories" box... The greeting at the finish line for the title sponsors at last weekend's Grindrod Umngazi Pondo Pedal. U might be able to see the tear in the rider on the right's eye (pretty good bike handling skills as well!)
  25. Was just over at gumtree, and spotted some classic ad titles. The best so far: "Satan silver back mountain bike" "Tennis brats for sale" Got any more?
