  1. I hope his cycling shoes aren't too damaged.
  2. My latest resto video of a little Panasonic DX3000 has dropped on YouTube for those interested:
  3. Yeah, often those pawls are just gunked up and need a good flush and light coat of oil. There's not really much that can go wrong in there.
  4. I'm seriously impressed with his ride, especially in such a stacked field. He's made a lot of people sit up and take note 🀩
  5. Fresh 28C's and a good service will make the world of difference... welcome to the Dark Side of Vintage Steel, lovely looking old Zini πŸ€™β˜ΊοΈ
  6. Thanks Ross, every little bit will help, these guys have the bare minimum as it is but at least they looking for honest gainful employment πŸ€™
  7. Hey guys, due to the nature of my hobby, I forever have garden engineers stopping by my garage and asking for old bike parts. Most of them are on really clapped out old 26ers (some even on 24's) and I can't really help out beside supplying old cables or housings as I mostly only have old vintage racing bike spares. If you have any old 26er consumables gathering dust please consider donating to the cause. I'm looking for the parts that commonly wear like cables, housings, brake block, used tires & tubes (most requested parts), brake levers & calipers, pedals, headsets, BBs (normal square taper) etc. None of it needs to be new, the stuff they currently have is normally destroyed so they're happy with the absolute minimum if it just allows them to continue riding around looking for work. I'll probably just throw everything into a big box and allow them to scrounge around as space for spares is an issue for me as well. It would be ideal if it's northern burbs in CT as I don't really want to travel around and spend too much time & money on this but I would also like to help if possible, Ta πŸ€™
  8. Lovely job πŸ€™ What saddle is that, it looks nice and comfortable?
  9. Oh awesome, yes I'm in De Oude Spruit area πŸ€™ Drop me your cell no and I'll make a plan to collect if they're not taken yet.
  10. Where you based Josh? I'm always after old 26ers to build them up and donate them to the less fortunate. I forever have guys stopping by my garage looking for spares for their buggered commuters.
  11. I've spread quite a few frames the way RJ shows in his video, without any issues. Most recently the Tommasini Prestige that I did the Neo-retro build on πŸ€™ Always good to check the frame alignment and hanger alignment afterwards though.
  12. That's a great tribute to a beautiful frame πŸ€™ Please keep me in mind if you ever decide to sell it, I'm after a Gemini for my collection and that looks like the perfect size πŸ˜ƒ
  13. It's @Hennie 15 and that was his Hansom before the Gravel bike conversion πŸ˜‰
  14. Hennie's is very similar to the one above done by Whippet. He's got a 1x9 drivetrain on it 30C cyclocross tires and his clearance on the caliper is "balhaar". He actually took a few mm's off the caliper with a dremel to get the tire in.
  15. You can use a multitude of old SA built frames but make sure to look for something that can handle that size tire. Many of the frames built from Reynolds 531 tubing and up have tighter geometries and therefore can't handle tires above 25C... maybe a 28C if you're lucky. Clearance on the brake calipers is also something to look out for. Cheaper frames with more touring type geometries work a lot better and are also better suited to gravel riding. I'm about to start on a similar project with and old Alpina frame.
  16. Those Mavic parts are worth good money now to collectors πŸ€™
  17. Recently completed the Plett2CT (Cross Cape) bike packing trip on my Giant Revolt. Set it up with 45C Rambler tires and the bike performed like a dream πŸ€™
  18. Such a legend and all round nice guy that's always willing to assist with advice and to share his knowledge. My very first restoration project was bought from @Eppie (the old Raleigh in my profile pic) and it got the ball rolling on my restoration hobby.
  19. LOL... that was day 1 and I hadn't yet done a tubeliss conversion but was desperate to ride it so I made a plan. It's since been converted and the tube removed πŸ€™
  20. This purchase was more out of necessity rather than choice after I cracked my Anthem's frame but I'm rather pleased with my decision.
  21. Q20 is for water displacement and decreasing and doesn't work well as a lubricant. So rather just use it to flush the gunk out the housing and then blast with air to get rid of the Q20. Then you can use a lithium based grease to lube the cable. WD40 makes a spray-able white lithium grease that works well for this purpose. But if it's a once off job, rather just replace the housing, it will cost almost the same as buying the WD product.
  22. Also important for a Sub3 is to realize that very few people are able to ride a negative split on the Argus. So if you go through halfway with a 36.5avs you aren't going to ride a Sub3. You need to hit Ocean View with at least a 38avs to stand a chance. Apologies if I'm repeating what has been said already, I haven't been through the entire thread.
  23. The second best thing is the coffee shops and sight seeing 😍
  24. Another fairly cheap option if you can get the spokes off successfully is to have them blasted and nickle plated.
  25. He would indeed ☺️ However it would mean removing all the spokes and soaking them to get that right and its often difficult to do without breaking spokes as some of those nipples will probably be seized. On galvanized spokes I use a scotchbrite pad and warm soapy water and literally scrub it off. Then polish them with Autosol and coat with ACF50. Unfortunately once they get to that stage of neglect, the rust will reappear over time so you'll need to keep your hand on it if you ride the bike often. If you intend keeping the bike and using it, best bet is to spend the money and re-lace the wheels with SS spokes, they look a whole lot better as well.
