  1. Has anyone perhaps got the GPX files (per day) for this route? I tried downloading it off the official site but when I open the GPX file in GPX Viewer App on my phone, it only shows me the Plett to Knysna portion (day 1). Which is rather strange because if I import the same GPX file into Google Earth it shows me the whole route 🧐 I are confuzzed ☺️ Thx
  2. Most are 27.2 but with SA bikes you honestly never know, they just built with the tubing they had available at the time. Best is to measure it with a vernier at two points and average it out.
  3. @Hairy Try www.detailersemporium.co.za πŸ€™
  4. The guy I bought the polisher from said he had a contact for the smaller 2 and 3' foam pads, I'll try get hold of him and see what he stocks πŸ€™
  5. I bought myself one of these little units just before Xmas on a 72% less takealot special for R1090 and I've been blown away with the punch it packs for its size. I've just used it to to build a 3x3m pergola (holes and setting screws) and it's handled everything with ease (and on a single charge). They've certainly come a long way with these battery powered tools. I've now added a small Schultz Polisher to the toolbox as well for polishing up the frames I respray. It's only 12V though and I've yet to put it to the test but it appears to be pretty decent quality for the price.
  6. Copy and paste it into Word and then use the replace command to make it whateverthehellyouwantittobe πŸ˜†
  7. Regarding the delay in the medics getting to him... most races hire 2 x private medical teams per event, less if their budget is stretched. I had an incident in 2008 during the Medallion event in Stellenbosch when it was raining and riders were going down left, right and centre. The medics couldn't cope with all the injuries and you just had to wait your turn. I had my front wheel taken out from under me by someone too eager to enter a pace line and went down hard just as we came into town. After waiting for medical assistance for over 30mins, I eventually picked up my bike and walked down the road to Mediclinic and booked myself in. Diagnosis was a shattered collarbone and a couple of cracked ribs. My point is that maybe the medics where just stretched too far and busy dealing with other incidents on the route and sadly couldn't get there in time to assist effectively. We're quick to shout when race costs get too expensive but these are the types of things that cost a lot of money. Medical teams and vehicles aren't charity organizations.
  8. Very sad to hear of the riders passing, how utterly devastating for the family, RIP. As to bottles being handed out... WTF? Is this a new thing because this was never allowed previously and sounds absolutely absurd in a funride? Have they done away with feed & water stations on funrides?
  9. Thanks for the feedback Andrew, glad to hear they're doing well. I'll be willing to contribute as well, just let me know costs involved πŸ€™
  10. Any recommendations on getting me and my bike to Plett besides riding it there?
  11. Restored an old set of Simplex gear levers that had some poor etching work done on them. These are generally rated as the smoothest friction shifters ever made and are quite collectable πŸ€™
  12. Added some retro style panache to a tired looking Dura-Ace 7900 Crankset with some very durable Silky Black Cerakote and some panto work.
  13. Been a while since I updated this thread. Here's a few projects I got up to last year. This one was panto/etching work on a plain Cinelli 1A stem.
  14. I had 125km's on the clock and then got struck with Covid on the 26th... oh well, we'll try this year again πŸ™„
  15. I love the fact that Stan has split the event over 2 days now, it offers more bang for your buck πŸ€™ I'm somewhat less excited about the fact that the only route option on the Sunday is 175km's long... on a vintage bike that could be a bloody long day out πŸ˜„ Time to start some ser-ri-ass training πŸ™ƒ
  16. My deepest condolences @*Reinet* Marais, may you find peace in this difficult time. @Coisyou might have lost the fight but you won the battle. You are in a better place and free from the suffering and in the process you taught us all so much about life. RIP fella, till we meet in heaven.
  17. @*Reinet* Maraismay God grant you guys the strength to walk this road. Please pass on our best wishes and prayers to Francois, he's never far from my thoughts despite me never actually meeting him. Some of us have followed his journey from afar and if ever there was a bravery award to hand out, it would go to this man. He's courageousness has inspired many of us and by sharing his battle I'm sure he has saved lives as he's made us realize just how important early medical checkups are.
  18. A mates recently restored Colnago Master. He did all the parts restoration and I resprayed his frame and did the panto work on his stem.
  19. I recon around 18K would be a reasonable price for the bike, it's still in great nick.
  20. Bring my chainring with while you're at it please ???? I've also got a spare eggbeater available if needed and I'm in Brackenfell ????
  21. I've started spraying bikes as well now, mostly my own restoration jobs on steel classics and I can now understand why you pay what you do for a quality spray job. It's a labour intensive project if you want a professional finish and time costs money. Just sanding a carbon frame down to base is easily 3 hrs worth of work.
  22. Has anyone tried to buy a Medium dual-susp MTB recently? No one has stock of anything, not only Giant. I tried for a Trance E 29er recently, stock only arriving in January... hopefully.
  23. That's perfect for what I need, dropped you a PM, thanks ????
  24. I actually read that on another forum as well but forgot about it, thanks ????
  25. Thanks @copperhead, I don't mind making a donation for it at all. I forgot to mention that it needs to be a 104 BCD. I'm doing a hack job on an old XTR crank that's actually a 102 BCD but those chainrings are almost impossible to find and silly expensive. I'm in Brackenfell CT so I can collect. I'm not in a hurry at all and can wait till you back, I'm still gathering parts for the build.
