  1. My question remains, what happens at 4.30am on a cold Sunday morning when I'm stopped at a pressure plate activated traffic light and there are no other cars around?
  2. In a manner of speaking, yes. Stopping and rolling through when: it's safe, or no cars are around, or the pressure plate hasn't activated and I feel the onset of hypothermia is not unreasonable. So mine, and countless others, is a protest against stupid traffic laws which were designed for vehicles and not cyclists.
  3. So I stop at your red light, at 4.30am on a cold Sunday morning. There are no other cars around, but I wait. and I wait, and I wait, and wait. The traffic light in question is activated by a pressure plate, which I'm too light to set off. What to do? There is no such thing as absolute, only reasonable and unreasonable. For every rule there is an exception.
  4. Very similar to Bianchi's classic CK colour.
  5. Again, I'm attempting to establish what is reasonable given the 5 sets of circumstances, not what constitutes an offence. If you feel the law is absolute, you're a sheep. Have you purchased an e-Toll tag? If not, why not? That too is "an absolute law".
  6. Alas, not many people (i.e almost nobody) stops at pedestrian crossing in SA, whether you're walking or riding. You could be walking on your hands for all they care. I run along the beach twice daily, and cross to the promenade at the pedestrian crossing right in front of my house, but cars coming from both directions speed along merrily without a care in the world.
  7. It does. My mistake was rock doesn't beat paper
  8. Look whose being PC in fear of being flamed. I didn't ask if these were offences, I asked what was reasonable or unreasonable considering the circumstances. As I said, the law isn't the law in the absolute sense. I'd like to see you "get off your bike and push it through an intersection when nobody else is around". That's just the most comical thing I have heard, and probably even more dangerous than riding it through. Yes I know you'll swear blindly you follow the horse's ass blindly everyday, but we all know it isn't true.
  9. I didn't say anything of the sort, I asked 5 questions.... which YOU haven't answered. Look before you leap Nonks.
  10. I hear you, and understand your view, but have a few questions? What constitutes "jumping a red light"?. Simply riding through without slowing down in normal traffic flow?, Slowing down considerably but still riding through, when others are stopped? Slowing down considerably but still riding on, when nobody else is around? Stopping first and then riding through when (a) there are no cars, and/or (b) the pressure plate hasn't activated for 3hrs? Turning left? One size doesn't fit all, IMHO. A bike isn't a taxi, and a taxi ain't a bike. And "the law is the law" in the absolute sense, doesn't wash as an argument. Sometimes the law is a horse's ass. Edit: Urrrrghh, spelling
  11. Rock beats paper. Spelling bee beats grammar police, every time Edit: Spot the mistake
  12. That puts paid to my previous longwinded reply
  13. The occasion, support and adrenalin carry you on race day. I don't get close to PB's during training, but they're always under threat during races.
  14. The short answer is YES. When you submitted your application, you confirmed you were a club member. That effectively "discounted" your entry by the cost of a temporary event licence. Runners must have two race numbers, front and back. TOM printed number on the front, temp or ASA licence at the back. If you're spotted by race referees without either, you run the risk of disqualification. ASA rules state all races organised by affiliates must be run in club gear. The longer answer is: Change your club if the shirt is ugly Edit: Spelling Further edit: Pin your ASA license to the back of your tri shirt.
  15. <5min/km over Edinburgh and Southern Cross is exceptional, <6 good, <7 reasonable, <8 survival mode, >8 granny gear. I'm hoping for a reasonable morning across the hills.
  16. It's just a hill, get over it
  17. I agree, actions speak louder than words. I suggested a peaceful protest ride to Broadacres Shopping Centre last weekend. No takers unfortunately, everyone was busy riding it opposite directions.
  18. Good morning fakers and fakettes, keep the thread burning burning brightly.
  19. Super gulley-jumping skills by Sagan!
  20. Boonen being very honest, no hidden agenda in his riding today.
  21. Pace and fatigue taking it's toll, riders losing concentration and going down. Those cobbles are evil.
  22. Howdy Andy, The police wouldn't get involved, unfortunately. Instead they would redirect you to your attorney, You have a civil claim against CS for undue enrichment, and additional recourse to the (toothless) Consumer Commisssion, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act. Sweltering day in Cape Town. I'm off for a quick spin up Chappies and the last swim of summer before the weather changes.
  23. Fixed. It is a metro cop's duty and purpose to reprimand offenders after all. I doubt anybody will admit to being the culprit
  24. Drat. Reduce your budget (theoretically), tell them the 27k is burning a hole in your pocket and you're about to pull the trigger on a 2014 deal elsewhere. The 2014 Scalera3 is a sweetheart.
