  1. Just my 2c. I work in retail and yes the customers are king. But they are not always right. I personally think CPA is used way to much as a scare tactic by customers. From the sounds of things it was the attitude of the owner that would have pissed me off rather than the 5%. You do get that odd customer know it all who will demand "x" when they need "y" and then accept no responsibility and blame the LBS. Or the customer who charges In and demands a new bike because a shifter has broken due to forcing it after the bike being left in the rain and the cables rusting. The matching prices is a har one due to when stock was purchased and in what quantities and then the postage cost as well as chain stores getting discounts. But don't ask me to match a online stores price. And then there's the guy who buys a bike from a different shop and there is now moment between the fork stantions and the crown. So he brings it to us and we send it off for warranty and give the customer one of our loan fork. The supplier do not have stock as this is a trail fork so the part will come on the next shipment in a month. The customer now blows our heads off and states that he wants his fork in 2 days or we must give him a new one off the shop floor. These are the guy's who I hate to say I'd rather not have there business because they buy online and then wont you the LBS to provide the service at no charge. In finishing I would have to say attitude and service to the customer is what keeps them coming back rather than price to a degree. Rant over:D
  2. Very valid point. Would agree with you for the average rider. But as I luckily have access to all the tools and spend every day in a bike shop there is very little hassle.
  3. Have a look in the classified section. 26inch carbon wheel will have to go cheap as there is no real market for high end 26inch stuff unless you are a small woman or a top youth race snake. So probably 6-8k max on the dt swiss and about the same on the EDGE if they are what I think they are (road wheel) but then tubular or clinchers. And this all depends on wear and tear

  5. what crank/chainring combo you running on that bad boy
  6. Happen to work in a bike shop. So have had the pleasure of using nearly every brake out there. In the weight vs performance and power. These are untouchable. Initial bite is not as vicious as Shimano's so you don't have that on or off brake feel. So better modulation and feeling of when the wheel is on the verge of locking up, but still have enough power to shoot you over the bars in a hurry. Maintenance and upkeep is virtually non existent. Have cut and shortened the brake lines with no need to rebleed. They also have a great piston retraction system so clearence with rotors is very good. Setup is a cinch. They use dot 4 so you can get it anywhere. Price is no to bad when compared with xtr, xx, hope x2.
  7. yea you probably right. The first 3 weeks were interesting, but now that my rear end has molded to the saddle its all good for 6+ hours. Is does help that im running 27.2 seatpost with about 330mm out the frame to there is about 20mm of flex
  8. You may only grace a Cannondale Ultimate with ENVE's anything else is SACRILEGE If you can afford an Ultimate then you can afford ENVE’s. Very stiff, strong and light. Oh and as far a i know the Ultimate's come standard with ENVE's These are the perfect match.
  9. If you got the skills then is good fun. just not ROCK GARDENS We used to go hit the cycle lab bike park in JHB on our BMX's. Now that was a proper work out.
  10. I have the 2013 R1 Racing brakes and love them. As for these cylinder is shorter so the lever is now closer to the bar plus the lever has been redesigned. As for the master cylinder now being put under tension rather than compression the wear and tear is reduced greatly. It’s like pulling something out of a pipe rather than trying to stuff it in. there are also now two bleed ports on each lever one top and bottom depending on which side you have your front and rear lever, so that bleeding doesn’t require brake removal. For the R1 Racing start at 3mins.
  11. Test, Test, Test everyone is different. I’m as skinny as well ""a spoke ie: 1.88m and 58kg" but i find a pure carbon Selle Italia SRL to be great. Oh and do get a decent set of bibs with a good chamois.
  12. hahaha. I blame this on my phone's predictive text function.
  13. New leavers
  14. They have been around for a couple months internationally. They are constructed in a similar way to the now bankrupt and no longer made Mad Fiber wheels except for how the spokes attach to the hubs, how the spokes are tensioned and the hubs them selves. As far as I know the spokes are double length so both ends are bonded to the rim opposite each other and clip into the hubs in the middle. The front hub is carbon and the rear aluminium.
  15. Massive Scam bike sizes are different prices, campag don't make bikes, pic's are all from other sites, stupid prices,no proper info, wrong bikes under makes. Oh and what SA store is going to have a .com
  16. Well my 800 kept giving faulty altitude readings. So took it to garmin and told them the problem. They replaced my unit with a new bundle pack so free cadence sensor. Could also have upgraded to the 810 for R570.00 I think but only from next year. Oh and the best part is that the 1 year warranty starts againg on the new 800.
  17. The premium straps are @#$% and garmin has confermed this I have been through 3 in a year. send it back with proof of purcase and they will replace it, but ask for the hard all in one strap.
  18. Thanks. 8.98kg A couple things have changed since that pic. Sadly the Cranks have changed as there was a manufacturing defect. They now XX and the Brakes are now Formula R1 Racing.
  19. Ditch the small ring on the crank, then set your front derailleur to only work for the middle and big ring. get some new brakes not going to beat these Shimano Deore http://www.easybike....r-m596-set.html Then get the Fork.
  20. This is my baby!!!
  21. Have to agree with you. After working in a LBS and have the pleasure of hosting Master’s World Champs this is my list off the top of my head. Bianchi Oltre Bianchi Oltre XR Bianchi Infinito Bianchi Sampre Bianchi Sampre Pro Trek Madone 6.9 SSL Spartacus Trek Domane 5.9 Pinarello Prince Pinarello Dogma Pinarello Dogma 2 Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think 2 Cervelo R5 Cervelo S5 VWD Cervelo S5 Team Cervelo S3 Cannondale Super Six Giant Propel Time RXRS ULTeam Colnago CX Scott Addict R1 Specialized Tarmac SL3 Probably missed a few, and Groupset’s Campag Record Campag Super Record Campag Super Record EPS Shim Di2 Ultegra Shim Di2 Dura Ace Shim 11psd Dura Ace Shim 11psd Di2 Dura Ace Sram Red And if I could only choose one it would be the Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think 2 with EPS. The ride is comfortable yet stiff as hell.
  22. Depends on make and model. but I would go for a large.
  23. Just my 2c, from working in a LBS Avid had a problem with a batch of brakes where the supplier in the east? I don't know where, used some dodge magnesium for the brake housing. This resulted in the DOT fluid reacting with the magnesium and producing air bubbles. They actually were recalling the brakes and giving out new ones. As well as the pad adjust rotating past the stop to easily and thus breaking the seal and needing new internals. But the new ones if done right and looked after are good. But for me Formula R1 Racing all the way.
  24. Thats way to low if you ask me.
  25. I know a guy in Durban. Really professional as he works with carbon fibre all day as it is his job. As well as studying Carbon Technology, as far as I know. He has repaired my MTB frame twice and I've had no problems and can't see the repair. Price is more expensive than some others but compared to a new frame cheap, and it’s a complete repair where the carbon is replaced, over a foam base then compression wrapped and vacuum bagged and then painted. As for the fork I can't say would have to have a clearer pic, but try for a warranty then see.
