  1. Just back from 20 year Boland Landbou reunion planning session and full of guts/brandy - so dont know what is responding - but see you tomorrow tonight (only me, missus is in jhb)
  2. - I would have been worried if you rated my equipment better...Only one/two weeks alone in a foreign country you know...
  3. We killed the lights for the photo. Jig i would have been blind taking the photo She use a Sigma Power LED black on the handlebar - it dim my light if we are next to each other
  4. Thanks everyone, was fun... http://www.gnear.co.za/20080609_JonkershoekNightRide_005.jpg
  5. Sure, thanks for the alert. ZP, I will still be there then (need someone that know the place in the dark) and the Missus will join on her first night ride & light test.
  6. Are we still on for tonight?
  7. 18:00 = See you there
  8. Will have to skip this week - Fuji man is in CT and we plan to have a beer over dinner (last one was more than 12 years ago ) Was looking forward to test winter gloves and improve light setup - next week... Enjoy!
  9. ?He who seeks vengeance must dig two graves: one for his enemy and one for himself?
  10. I'm not trying to discredit the product - perfect for what it was designed for. I see nothing wrong with it, especially if you dont own a GPS yet. But their might be people that want to do more with the the GPS function. An OS where you can decide what software (including panic alert) must run give you a certain freedom to do so. (AND of course negatives like battery llife when shared) It should be possible for the company to release software that can run on your GPS-enabled mobile phone that you already paid for.
  11. I agree with ML - If you have a cellphone with buildin GPS or seperate bluetooth enabled GPS device there are a lot of options available. There is certainly a market for all these products. Robust (cycling), own battery etc etc But I like the fact that a cellphone allow you to install/write software compatible with the OS, allowing you to use the data supplied by the GPS in any way you want - navigating with garmin software, track capture, online tracking. Even Google Earth have mobile software version where you overlay your position on their satelite images (not normally included with navigation software)
  12. 4eyes, it is a two day event - and you was supposed to pedal out of the Hell
  13. Anyone else that are using a Sigma PowerLed black? - Question: Do you use the o-ring to secure the light to the bracket? I can't get the o-ring over the light, it seems to short and I broke one of the 3 in the box already. I went the t-strap route now, but then the setup is less flexable ito add/remove the central battery section. Must say I almost nuked the breeding lovebirds in the corner of the property during testing last night. According to the noice they was not impressed
  14. is that the profile next to the the name of the route?
  15. not at all Slowbee, I got in last year without knowing anyone and this year there was new people as well. I just dont want to create the impression that you pay a fee, sign a form and that there is no limit on rider numbers. Email Holger, tell him you like Tafel a lot , and that you would really like to have see Namibia on a MTB.
  16. Skollie, the url by hagar is correct and i can send some Google earth kml files if you PM me. This year the distance were shorter, but except for the second day, done on very nice jeep track, rock or sand. I don?t use a cycle computer but guess it as 60km, 80km, 60km, 40km, 30km (Did i mentioned that the 1ste day was about 40km of sand? The missus had a steep learning curve but end up on top - very proud of her) My Personal Comments on the event: You need to drink "Tafel" It focus on fun/friendship - not extreme mountains/distances. It is not a commercial event, so what you need, you take with yourself. In the evenings, "food evenings" are assigned to families and share around a single fireplace. It is finished with a black tie (your inner tube) dinner at the canon Roadhouse. After 5 days you leave the region with new friends and a hand made copper medal - mine is on a special place next to the fireplace. Now the bad news: it is almost impossible to get place at the HH - the logistics make it impossible to accommodate a lot of people and preference are given to people who had done it the year before (and they do come back). I am just a normal participant that was lucky to get a place last year - saw the poster at the Argus expo and the missus had the Liquid launch last year for that week, so i took the "gap" and went. So the applications must go through the official web site contact details. Word of mouth recommendations might swing it in your way as a new entrant. (or your cooking abilities ) Now the good news is that MTB riding opportunities might be available in the future in the Godwana area. But this is not a given and i can?t really comment more - it is the owners decision and they are looking into it currently and with this sort of interest, might just be convinced the right way. I must mention as well that a big part of the "normal" route are done on public roads so anyone can go there as a group i assume, but with the nice rides we had this year i would rather wait for the Godwana outcome.
  17. flippen hell hagar - now i'm so hungry... I was banging my head for 3 weeks on what food I could make for my cooking evening and still end up with tjops, wors en pap - you just roll it out like that If you make food like that i will make the coffee in the morning
  18. ahh, a good chef is always good to have - what "Weskus" food are your speciality or do you recommend for a big pot on the fire? (I was considering taking snoek this year but was afraid how long it will keep fresh in a good cooler box) Thanks for the feedback everyone, The Godwana people are looking at this thread and might just react on your comments
  19. dylankeyter, we started at 8:00. (The camp need to be taken down and packed some days and on the normal "route" everyday) Although a lot hotter than Cape Town, the heat this time of the year is not to bad. The first day your body struggle but from then on its fine. "Augurabis" is correct Nothingness
  20. hehe - thought you would respond - The Craven family were mentioned around the fire in the evenings. Because the Vis river destroyed the normal route we stayed on Godwana property - also as an experiment to give them feedback on MTB potential etc - and what a MTB heaven it is... The river crossing is close to the "Augrabies farm opstal" (spelling?)
  21. Damn, but I like Namibia and it's people - The perfect holiday. This year the missus & family went with and what a jol it was... sand, jeeptrack, solid rock, and who said there is no water? the full album: http://picasaweb.google.com/gert.conradie/HunsbergHellride2008?authkey=xYWD1m1jDNU
  22. Had seen something this morning that I waited a long time for... - and this video for first time: (By date added, clearly not added after my first posting) The Epic are finished (partaily or not ), but the project is still going nicely it seems. I see Songo feel the same as me on Papegaai-berg. I'm converted. You are the man Songo! Back to the need - what hubber spend money on wheels and pedals but did not donate yet? (The km's are only halfway bought yet.)
