  1. Like I said some of those nice sandwitches and a long cold draught..................
  2. Energade is OK for drinking at the start of a race but it is not very good at controlling your sugar levels during racing and training and tends to let your sugar levels drop too quickly. There are much better energy drinks on the market that controls it a lot better. I used to race on Energade and I could feel my energy levels dropping while with the other ones it stays much more constant. No measurement done purely an observation and no lab certification attached. . Most of the energy drinks I tried made me want to throw up under high intensity conditions and some I simply could not take the taste so I stuck to the one I found that tastes OK and does not give me nausia under high intensity.
  3. I think it is about nomenclature. In engineering if something supports a load the component goes into compression stress. If it supports a load by hanging the load on it the component goes into tension. I think therefore it is your use of nomenclature that is confusing me. The spokes always stays in tension and can therefore never support/carry the load go into compression(normal riding conditions). I will come and visit you again and have a long cold one and some of those nice sandwitches and then we can discuss it. Maybe we must get the university to get a student to do his final year thesis on a Wheel FEA. That would be quite interesting.
  4. So I wrote this whole spiel about a spoke cannot go into compression as you have to apply a force on the one end and keep the other end fixed which a bicycle spoke is not (the one end just sits in the rim while the hub is supposed to apply a compression force according to Johan and this relates to your FEA boundary layer conditions which has to be defined very well in FEA or you get garbage information out) so that the hub can never stand on the bottom spokes as they will merely relief their tension, go to a no load condition in then slide into the rim but then the LAN Connection bombed out and I lost the whole thing I wrote so I will settle for Agree to Disagree. Maybe I will write it again later...
  5. Het self maar daar op gesukkel met my swaar fiets, riser bars, bar ends Short sleeve jacket ens.... en my eie gewig maar verder was dit great fun. Het geweet daar is iets met my seeding verkeerd maar ek was darem nie stone last in die A bunch nie...... Bly die mojo het terug gekom. Klink my julle het baie carbo en protien loading gedoen..... Ons beplan Vrydag middag so 'n 2.5 uur ride om die kop of daar by Renzo hulle se valley.....Ek het self die 705 al vir twee jaar en sal nie weer iets anders koop nie....
  6. Hi Gerhard Speak to Alex he bought a 500 a while ago and also changed firmware and as far as I know he is happy with his. Training Center is available for Mac
  7. None that I know of but my experience is very limited. There are a lot more hubbers that I think can answer that. What I have seen is that UST tyres are a lot more heavier than normal tyres becuase of their thick sidewalls. I am not sure if you can fit a normal tyre on a UST rim. The problem I have with UST rims is that the nipples have to screw into the rim from the inside which gives you two sections of thread and a lot more to go wrong or nipples that could cease up inside the rim. I think Johan has a lot more experience on UST rims so maybe he can give a better answer.
  8. Everybody raved about the ZTR Olympic rims and some friends of mine also recommended them as well as the ZTR 355. So I spoke to some wheel builders and they reccon the ZTR 355 is a more stable/solid rim profile than the Olympic so I looked at the ZTR 355. Saw the Crest is the replacement/upgrade of the 355 and thus the decision was made on the ZTR Crest. I think there is also some of the Competition rim technology in there if you read the sales jargon.
  9. PM me your e-mail then I will send you the costing sheet!
  10. Front Wheel is a QR15 so axle is part of the shock and yes I had the rim tape on and the valve fitted when I weighed the front wheel. Just need to add some weight for the sealant. Will measure the back wheel this week when I do the conversion and leave the QR in and let you know.
  11. These came in at about 1600g on my kitchen scale for the pair. If you go to revolution spokes you can take some more weight off but they are more expensive and you need to be lighter to get enough stifness if you listen to the wheel build masters. XT Rims weigh in at 1677g without valve stem and quick releases. They are R3200 at CWC cycles but I think the hope hubs are better than the Shimano hubs. Total Build costs was R4300-00 but I think they are more in the class of the XTR wheelset which is about double the price.
  12. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
  13. He sure did as I would have liked some red ones but to me it is more about durability and I weigh around 87kg so I listened to the master.
  14. Did the tubeless conversion last week on the front wheel so weighed the wheel in at only 780g
  15. Was that the section with all the loose gravel going down to the river crossing?
  16. The XM 317 Disc rims are also quite bullet proof and I would also suggets that you replace the spokes and nipples. Then have the job done by a reputable wheel builder. If you in JHB contact Johan Bornman to rebuild your wheel. You just need to weigh up the costs versus a new wheel.

    Help

As far as I know the only frames they bring in to SA is the F1 SL. Other frames is on a customer pays transport basis. Try and phone sports pro rather and speak to Justin.
  18. I use Roval rim tape (Specialized) as it works very well and costs a lot less than Stans. I have two sets of weals already running like that with no problems. Just did not have time to do it on saturday but hopefully ready for next Saturdays Daimond Rush.,
  19. On my scale about 1.5 kg subject to calibration certification...lol I also weighed the complete set vs my previous set and I took 1kg of the bike...
  20. Got up early saturday morning and travelled to Johan Bornman from Yellow Saddle and took my new rims and hubs with ready for the build. So with the kind help and attention from Johan I started the build project. About six hours later and a hec of a lot of information and learning about what it takes to build a proper wheel I completed the project. Not forgetting the sore hands and back as this is no mean feat to do. Once again Johan thanks for the oppertunity and I strongly recommend anyone to complete one of Johan's wheel build courses and the satisfaction of having built your own set of wheels - unmeasurable. Fitted them to the bike on Saturday evening and put the set through their paces at the Medscheme Walkerville 60km Race on Sunday. Wheels performed faultles and are running as true as we set them. Wheelset Front Hub : Hope Pro II QR15 with 15mm through axle Rear Hub : Hope Pro II Normal Quick Releas Axle Rims : NoTubes ZTR Crest Spokes : DT Swiss Double Butted Black Spokes and Brass Nipples. Front Tyre : Specialized The Captain Control 2.0 Rear Tyre : Specialized The Captain Fast Track 2.0 And the end product: Front Wheel: Rear Wheel : Still a bit wet from the wash
  21. Thinking of red...............
  22. So today my new babies arrived in the post and now onto the build tomorrow...................yeehaaaaa.....hopefully ready for Sundays Race..
  23. Thanks Moegoe quite interesting !!!!!!!!!! learned something today:)...
  24. Does this mean your gears work the other way around from the shifter side?????
  25. "high normal" means the derailluer, under control of only its spring, goes to the smallest cog and "low normal" means the opposite. High normal is by far the most common and, so far, universal on road bikes.
