  1. You should be fine at 120RPM, but even then it seems you were not be using 53/11. The last time we went bulletting down a mine shaft we were all doing about 95 - 100km/h that should mean we were doing about 165rpm and the poor sods with 53/12's must have been really spinning.
  2. Speed is not the issue it is the RPM I get to about 130RPM
  3. Why would you even consider anything other than SRAM?
  4. Just go enjoy the bloody thing. There is just so much going on all the time, this will be the least of your worries. Green with envy!!
  5. This is the issue, the local boys need to carry stock, pay rent and and and. and then only sell 10 units/year. So the cost must be higher to cover this. Vote with your wallet, but never complain that there is no stock locally. Every item you purchase online takes a sale away from a local store, so it has an impact on profitability, and how much more you are gonna have to pay locally for it.
  6. Simple answer is NO they will not sell more. There are only so many customers buying at a particular time. After season specials are to get rid of stock that was not sold during the rush, you don't want to sit with stock that does not sell quickly enough. Remember stock on hand means money you can't spend elsewhere. And the idea is to milk the last few cents out of the customers that did not blow it att at Xmas.
  7. I just use Insulation tape and the Valves, but then I also use UST tyres. Had too many issues with sidewall cust on Non UST.
  8. Yes Carbon Should last longer, however get a sharp impact from stone, fall etc. and it will be toast sooner than later. Ali will get a ding or a scratch that is all. Get a chip in Carbon and start considering replacement. OK if you are gonna pussyfoot around on single tracks then go carbon. I have had both. Mongoose Team ali frame with all done 900g lighter than the Mereda Team all done. Mongoose had to be replaced as I reversed my suv over it. Was still going strong after more than 2 years of heavy riding. Then got the Merida, had to have the frame replaced x3. (Ok all done under warranty. Merida is AWSOME!!!!!) but if you paying for everything...... Top end Ali frames are lighter than Carbon. just go to any of the manufacturer's sites and check it out.
  9. Ali Frames are normally lighter and cheaper than carbon and last longer.
  10. Well after using it a few times now it should be awesome for a commute and even as part of a training ride. I initially thought the lanes were too narrow, but in fact as a general rule most ppl will be going in the same direction at most times. To and from Work, and out in the early am and back in the late AM on weekends. No reason to get run over now. and the intersections are not such an issue. Less hassle than standing waiting for the lights to change with all the cars buzzing you on takeoff. But to get our Roadie egos to do the right thing could be an issue. You know the I am a Pro not a commuter..... I like!!
  11. And your point is? Why would you want to strip the blades? Esp items that are milled from a solid billet?
  12. This only works for the cheap ones. the light, over the top priced ones are made from 1 piece of Blik or whatever. Many K ZARs and less km.
  13. Ok Free but how much for the 6pack attached to the bike?
  14. Sorry Size Large. Pics later no access to camera. just yet. (Yes can't even connect mobile phone ok)
  15. What could I expect to get for a GT Carbon Series 2 with 105/Altegra components with Alex wheels? Fair condition. Will post photo's later. I am just curious.
  16. Take it next time and tell him he can get it back when he learns to behave. These dudes are normally also the ones that won't make it to the end with what they have left anyway.
  17. Your poll does not cater for all the options so I think you are gonna get less results than you want. There is no option for Section 1 & 3 that I would want to check Section 1 - Depends on what I want to get out of the race (currently it is too much, but if the factors were correct even 1k would be OK) Section 3 - Again Depends on my personal value proposition.
  18. I did not ride this year so...... But, this is usually one of the better, safer rides out there and is well managed with great lucky draw prizes etc. (Note I do not attend any lucky draws etc. it is a waste for me. I do the ride and go home.) It takes a lot to put on a good show and for as long as ppl are prepared to pay the entry they will keep going up. Until the numbers drop and it is not financially viable for the organizers. the current fee seems steep, but not outrageous, you now just have to pick your rides. This will also impact on the overall number of races and only the best will survive. In closing the 99'r is not just another PPA ride............ It is a lot better IMHO. It is a proper distance, gets the profile of cycling in the WC up, gets some of the Pros here and is good for the local racing scene. Oh yes it's main aim is FUNDRAISING FOR THE SCHOOL.
  19. Disk setup will prolly be about 700g at the lightest and Road rim brakes prolly around 250g Huge difference to roadies. Even on MTB the V brakes still remain for the weight weenies.
  20. You will need to prove that you did not know, tricky I know, but we will have to see some test cases first. However most homeowners know about a lot of latent defects that they just keep mum about and they come out in the first month or so.
  21. Weight, WEIGHT. You don't need the stopping power on a road bike that you do an an MTB. Simple.
  22. As far as I recall Voetsoots will no longer be valid, you will have to define condition and any latend defects etc.
  23. or leave out the " " marks not sure on these.
  24. add a "+" between the words and put the search on " " marks. like in this thread search for "stupid+question" It seems to work
  25. So if the majority do not vote and the minority vote in k@k ppl, then it is still fine that you did not vote? So we can all sit on our asses and bitch and moan and THAT WILL FIX THINGS BECAUSE YOU DID NOT VOTE. Catch a wakeup. Or don't. But please do not advocate apathy!!
