  1. do the short MTB races. Ho sorry that's how you got here ;-)
  2. Not Defending CL, but that is ZAR 60 odd difference. Then it is not bad for a Local "Upmarket" LBS.
  3. Yes but you are not thier market then consider this: Customer service PASS for you and the normal customer Customoer satsifaction FAIL for you but for the customer that wants to say look at this nice box it came in and who sold it to me. He cycles and knows bikes etc etc. it will be a pass. Customer Value FAIL for you and pass for the customer that wants a "Brand Specific" part. You are not gonna see a Ferari, Bently, Rolls driver going down to the corner spare shop to get his spark plugs, are you now, even if they are the same and cost R 1500.00 less each.
  4. When running a business you need to consider your market, how much you are gonna sell and your overheads. So if you are only gonna sell 2 bearings a month and have to keep stock etc. you are gonna charge more. Then if you are selling to a Yuppie market that wants to buy from you because of whatever.... you can charege even more. You can get the same pair of jeans from the corner market, Mr Price, Edgars or the bespoke jean store in the upmarket mall. (Well prolly not the corner market) and the prices will vary significantly. Low volume high image = Very High Price Low price = No Image and must have high volume. So if you are catering for a niche market your prices HAVE to be Higher. And ppl do buy otherwise the shop would not survive. Don't falme them for servicing a particular market because it exists.
  5. Last time I looked they were about R20 each at Bearing Man and work fine.
  6. FSA on an MTB is a no no! The Design is an issue and as the BB starts to weat it get play then the crank becomes loose and eventuall the splines get worn and no matter what happens. Even a New BB dies in a matter of a few 100km. The main problem as I see it is the crank gets fastemd by pulling the two halves together and the BB is the item that keeps the tension. as the BB wears and gets a bit of play on it it starts to work loose. And the two sides of the BB are different diamiters so cannot be used with Shimano or other cranks. I went through 3 cranksets and many many BB's. changed to shimano and all is well.
  7. Don't worry with that schedule the weight will melt away without a diet. Just don't go overboard with the eating and drinking.
  8. No really there was some silly filter apparently that ****ed my name. Sorry guys feeling sorry for myself and needed to vent as I was being neglected. Must be the drugs for the Flu and all the fat building around my midrif. Anyway sorted now. B)
  9. Thanks to Admin it is sorted! I am no more a nobody...............well to me at least!
  10. D!ck is a somewhat common first name for men (#721 out of 1220) and an even more common last name for both men and women (#1388 out of 88799). (1990 U.S. Census) A man named richard may be nicknamed Dick because that is the traditional diminutive form of the name Richard. More recently, 'Rick' has also become commonplace. The name Richard is very old and it's true origins may well be lost in the depths of time past. The name likely stems from Old English, since 'Ric' meant ruler and 'heard' meant hard. It is also feasible that with the advent of rhyming slang, Richard would be shortened to Rich and then to Rick and on to Dick. Much like William - Will - Bill. 'Dick' eventually, like 'Jack', came to mean one of the common men as in "every Tom, Dick, or Harry". Shakespeare uses "every Tom, Dick, or Francis" in Henry IV Part I. (Thanks to Wiki Answers)
  11. Who decided that my nale needs to be edited out? I have been called D!ck (must do this or it gets commented out)by friends and customers forever. Damn Get a life ppl.
  12. Just a question who has decided that My Name needs to be edited?
  13. Ignore them, go on with your life Chuckie Chuck Chuck. If blowing your lid gets this resolved then the forum has served it's purpose. And if the supplier ends up looking good all the better. You all win!!
  14. No it is not, I is Englishhh and in the land on the who know why Robert = Bob Richard = **** William = Bill Whi I know not, but that is what they call me often. Sometimes because of this and other times as ppl feel I am one. But it is my cross and I carry it with me.
  15. As long as it is not a freeway you are cool. PPL get thier knickers in a bunch re the N! from Paarden Eiland to Cape Town. Why that is no longer a freeway there so we may ride there. Also iin SSburbs the blue route is off limits comming into Cape Rown till almost the top of Wynberg Hill then it is open to us again. So not letter before the road name means nothing (R300 No go actually Kuilsriver Freeway) But that said, i still think the Freeways are way safer to cycle on than the backroads with no sholder. my 2c's
  16. Check the Cable inner and outers could be dirty.
  17. It is Broken - Proper Warranty claim - Cracked around the seatpost. and ALLY frame and all!
  18. Welol at least it is not Garry Fisher. there you could wait for months. Oh yes then the warranty replacement is in customers after 2 months. the poor dude is still waiting to get it to clear customes 3 weeks later. Get a Merida, one, two, two and an half SORTED!!!!
  19. It is, or is it not, off the botlary Road. There are three of these to choose from. 2 x Flat like that one. 1 x *** steep even mtb granny is a challenge.
  20. Fork first then feel the Huge difference. Then the breaks Then the rear DR then the rest. Damn I went from top of the range Carbon crankset to SLX (OK cost was the issue) but the weight diff is minimal and these this wear out so soon you can upgrade regularly if need be. Depending on how much you ride and where.
  21. The issue is more with the bottle as said before. Use the Cheaper Thick Ally cages and make sure the bottle bend/rib, whatever fits under the lip of the cage and you are sorted. If the lip of the cage pushes into the outside of the bottle you are going to loose it no matter what cage you have.
  22. where they?
  23. After much use on my X0's it would not **** the gears at all. Opend it up and saw where the leaver was worn round (the skrews were loose that probly helped it along)Filed the edge square. and sie daar all working well. Many 1000k's later still going strong. OK have been through 2 frames in the process.
  24. No Man you problem is you don't know how to spin. Train to get up to 120RPM constantly and then there is no issue. Really though which bunches are you riding in, at this year's Argus in A bunch there were quite a few MTB's riding with them on normal MTB gearing.
  25. I read this and say WTF. 1. PPA is there for social riding developement. We have continually been fighting with PPA to keep the leauge racing going, but as you probly know they don't want to do this. Why? because of all the K@K that they get as well as all the requirements that keep changing from council's side. 2. If you want racing do the CSA races (the few that there are) and follow all their extra rules. Fortunatly a lot of them have been relaxed of late. Remember the issue with not being able to race in kit that had branding on it without paying them for the right? Ag this is a waste of time.............. If you are not happy with the current systems use your democratic right and don't do the PPA events! Organize your own and see what you end up with. I am not defending PPA in any way or form, yes they can do better, but at least they are doing something. My 2C's
