  1. E Bike Branding, nothing more nothing less.
  2. While I agree with your sentiments, the above is a bit of a red herring. riding on national highways is ALL GOOD, riding on freeways is a different story altogether. However you need to know the difference. Freeways are typically denoted by a sign with two lines going under a bridge and there are no roads directly joining the road except via on and off ramps. https://www.diffen.com/difference/Freeway_vs_Highway As long is it is not a freeway you are good to cycle on it. Is it safe to do so is another story altogether.
  3. Do not be tempted to use Car Batteries even if the appear cheaper. Their design application is not the same as Deep Cycle batteries.
  4. Well there's the rub (Manicured tracks) who wants these, why spend money creating them There are more than enough of these in bike parks. All you need is a route with a bit of gravel and a bit of donkey trail and you are sorted. You enter, you look after your medico etc. Why should there be huge medical facilities etc. you know what you can ride and how far/hard. sort your own food. Damn MTB has become a sissy sport with everyone needing to be pampered. All that event organizers should be catering for is land access and a bit of water along the rout. Back to basics and volumes will grow again. Then again I an from a time when things were different.
  5. Well not for the majority of MTB riders in Cape Town. Botties still has a few un-manicured single tracks, but they are getting less and less due to public demand for manicured trails, even though they have 120/140mm dualsuss bikes. The mind boggles.
  6. Bottelary trails should offer you enough variety.
  7. Damn, I did not think NZ fuel costs were so close to ours.
  8. Well in the past it lasted less than 1hr, so you are doing well.
  9. They will close this one down soon as well. I lost count of how many the canned recently.
  10. Have you checked the indexing? That seems like the simplest option. Different cassette types have slightly different over all specs. Often times you cant just swap out cassettes or wheels with cassettes. Simple to the check, adjust the DR and see if it works better. Also note different wear levels on the chain/cassette will also cause this.
  11. I don't do things right but fueling depends on want you want to achieve. I would typically not eat breakfast or take anything but water on the bike for base rides up to 100km. I don't really have enough time in the morning. Normally alarm goes off and I am out on the bike in max 15 mins. However if you are doing hard intervals etc or a hard 100km ride breakfast a fueling on the bike would be needed. 12. Wimpie should really pay more attention when riding. I have yet to find someone that has more accidents and incidents /issues with Aggro drivers in my life. Heal Up Wiempie.
  13. Another interesting titbit for those looking at E-Bikes (I know everyone already knows this) There are two types and typically the hub motor bikes fall into one group and most of the BB mounted motors fall into the other. Hub motors typically give a set amount of toque /power /assist depending on the amount of assist selected and give this whether you soft-pedal or give it horns. i.e If you select full assist, it will give 350W as long as the cranks are moving until the cutout speed which (on the Avalanche is 32kph if the combined weight is moderate and no huge headwind) BB Motors are typically toque multipliers up to the desired setting. In both instances the assist stops at the limits set and then you are on your own. The better option, I believe, would be the toque multipliers as you could manage the battery life better, but they cost significantly more. It is also an issue if a stronger and weaker rider ride together the the Hub motor bikes as the push bike rider needs to manage the speed quite a bit. On the climbs the ebike blasts away, but on the flats they struggle to keep up. Going at 31kph with assist and you get to 32 all assist stops. I know they can be chipped or the wheel size can be modified to allow assist up to a higher speed but it is worth considering.
  14. Sorry typo. Without a suspension fork, but with a straight fork.
  15. Looks like Bike Addict have stock. Something I found strange is the sizing of EBikes at the lower end of the price bracket (That is all I have looked at when I was shopping) is that they seem to almost be a size larger than pushbike sizes. I am 186 and felt more comfortable on a M than a L. Also my wife is 185 and there was no way she would be comfortable on a Large.
  16. Also look at the something like this if not going offroad https://bike-addict.co.za/products/avalanche-mte-2020. Has a stronger 350W motor vs 250. And my wife gets between 85 and 100km there is also one without a fork which is lighter of not going offroad. Yes the price is double but they are better
  17. But another issue is that the GP is typical kept at the same %. That is one of the biggest price drivers. So yes we are still only on 20% (haha, not) but 20% of 20k is not the same as 20% of 50k. At the current escalations they should only be on about 5% GPbut I think they are closer to 30.
  18. You do know that this is a totally mechanical process. It is not as if someone sits there checking each bar. I don't know the bars, but of it is chocolate coated or has largish bits in it the weight will always differ and damn 9g is so easy to have a deviation in weight. When the items are tested for accuracy I am sure the do bulk testing so then weights would even out. Edit: Looking at the testing methodology required for checking weights are you sure your scale meets the requirements? 09-chptr2-h133-15-final.pdf
  19. Sorry to disagree here, but I am 1.86 and nave been a large all my life. An XL (especially for a beginner) is going to make the reach way to far and place too much weight on the wrists. That however is just my opinion. I am currently also exactly 110kg as per my scale this morning. I would also recommend riser bars or a higher stem to lift the positing a bit initially. For the rest I agree.
  20. Whatever you do dont get what Nino rode the epic on.
  21. Well remember the Hub is not longer primarily a forum, it is a sales platform. So why should they participate in the community. This has been a longstanding gripe of the old guard, but we have accepted this. So it is what it is. You should look at is a "Facebook Market Place" for bike riders with a bit of chit chat on the side. Well not actually there is just so much moderation going on......
  22. This should be a Friday topic. I don't see the issue. The seller may have added value to the bike and then reposted it.

    Transbaviaans 2022

You always overcook the 1st half, so don't follow the busses. But then again, it is fun till it is not. 1st 100km for midfielders is typically done in 3.5 to 4 hrs. Well for us it has always been, then the next 130 takes us between 6.5 and 7,5hrs
  24. True but we still have to bitch and moan about things. I have also always found the vast majority of motorists are super nice on that route considering the narrow roads. Live and let live. Seems to be good in CTN.
  25. But don't forget the Recoverd's they are way more than the the vaxed. Damn I was vaxed and more than once infected and recovered. But I presume at least 60 to 70% of the informal settlements were not vaxed but infected. If you don't know and don't care and do not have access to media you just move on. Yes Covid is dangerous but not more so that drinking and walking in a highway etc. If you have no money and no transport and don't know about these things then you don't care.
