  1. I agree, the net is probably the best source of info. my wife has kindle too. however, time and again I love that feeling of paging through a bike magazine, especially on the plane an airports, a good feeling
  2. come down to CT for the 99er, its a seeding event for the argus then you start earlier. better to start earlier, cooler and less traffic
  3. MTB - long ride i take the kitchen sink in the hydration pack (even a shock pump) - overkill I know - short ride, just a bottle of water in the cage. Road- tube, tyre levers, chain link and tool in saddle bag. cos I use both bikes for commuting the saddle bags with spare tubes remain permanently on.
  4. Lazy, starting work on Monday, getting ready for work I suppose
  5. yes, but first secure your entry before you have a practice, don't want mind changing afterwards I did it twice last week, slow and steady, still the same. that last stretch as you take the bend then you realise there is still a bit of climbing left until silvermines
  6. btw, upper Tokai, it is the Baboons that freak me out
  7. Lower Tokai, the big square that is flat and boring
  8. if you don't mind driving out, I am with DJR on Koeberg. Meerendal is also a nice ride. Also, drive out to Rhodes, and ride table mountain to the cable station lower tokai is great for kiddies, but selfish, irresponsible dog owners who don't keep their dogs on a leash has chased me away.
  9. how they balance those things I still can't figure it out! big up to them
  10. I exported all my endomondo rides to Strava. using Tapirik, one click and all the syncs done automatically, but I see it no longer syncs Endo to Strava. so you have to manually export each ride into strava. I still run endo cos my BB can't take Strava and then I just export to Strava. so I essentially run both
  11. just been to the Frog website, really cool. Online purchases only? into local dealers in the Cape where one can see it in person?
  12. im not a gun oke, and I don't have an issue with cyclist wanting to carry a gun etc. hell I'm also gatvol of being scared whilst cycling alone. I enjoy cycling on my own, my time. apart from when I was a youngster, when you thought guns were cool I never wanna own one. I have been considering getting a gun just so that I can enjoy my cycling. However, I'm still not convinced that because I have to conceal it, at the same time it will not be a quick draw. furthermore, you still have to cock it, take safety off (gun depending though), I might just come off second best, but hell am I considering
  13. I had trouble finding a pedal bike for my 3yr old cause he is on the 'smallish' side and his balancing bike he mastered. The bike shops were actually useless. Actually ended up getting a bike at PnP for R400, he loves it. Soon I will buy him the 16inch Titan, his brother is 2 turning 3, and the 3rd boy is due in March, so hand me down opportunities make any investment worthwhile. I must say the LBS don't have a great range and the Game/Makro is Game/Makro. I found fixed cogs, back pedal brakes, bikes with only rear or front brakes. I just wanted a bike that will operate like all his future bikes and PnP surprisingly saved the day. He didn't need the sidewheels and is now getting the hang of front brakes, hands can barely reach though. all I need now is all these people to keep their dogs on leashes so that I don't freak out everytime. 'yes they do bite, and maul children, can't take chances' enough examples. just needed to get this off my chest.

  15. Good to hear some Raves! mooi gedoen CWC
  16. RIP, always sad to hear this. Deepest sympathy goes out to friends and family
  17. I was up at Tokai this weekend, and i have to still get used to the tree felling that has happening and still to happen. I can see the trail builders making progress, so well done. I also think the annual permit is getting too high. I regard silvermine as part of Tokai and don't see the cape point reserve as a MTB venue. So, essentially your Tokai annual permit don't buy you much options on national parks land. If I look at the tygerberg mountain bike club annual membership fees and all the trail offerings then Tokai is steep. Oak Valley, Paul Cluver are all stunning trails as well and their day permits are cheaper. I live around the corner of Tokai and ride it frequently to justify an annual permit (which I have to renew) but I think they must slow down on the hiking of prices.
  18. I'm not sure how far they got but Land Rover was on a similar buzz here in South Africa where all workshops with Land Rover/landy/rover etc were also infringing in name rights. most of these workshops are independant and are by far better looking after Land Rovers than what Land Rover SA is capable of. These 'indies' actually keeps the Land Rover brand alive otherwise most of them would be parked at agents who themselves don't know how to fix these delicate vehicles.
  19. had an issue at Lagoon race where the chip probably didnt register on the start mat and i got credited with starting with the last group giving me a very slow time. one email and attached endomondo link and they sorted within 2 working days. on another occassion in a 32km Mtb challenge, no end result on the timing mat. sent them an email, they asked me my estimated time I finished, I think they looked at video/photo footage and bob's your uncle. (had no GPS tracking) I always try to hear the beep but sometimes you cross with others and other times i'm too vrek moeg to hear anything
  20. if i don't have space to ride a meter away from parked cars, i go very slooooooooowly (less then 18km/h), especially Albert Rd in the afternoons, Woodstock and Salt River. Doors open up all the time. my fear is not much the crash from being hit by a flinging door, I fear more being thrown in the path of traffic and then get run over.
  21. this morning I came flying down suikerbossie in the direction of camps bay, took a bend and almost hit barriers put in the yellow line, luckily the cars were held their mandatory 1m distance so I could clear it with no drama. coming into camps bay I also got a lekker skrik to part of the road washed away in last week's heavy rain, that was also too close for comfort. but on the other hand i'm perfectly ok bombing down a ST I never done before, but then one is more alert, so stay frosty
