    Emperors Race

Hi Chaps, ladies Any one know, correct me - my race number must be pined on to the back of my shirt ? I see we must put our details behind and there is a tear line. I ignoring this. Correct ?
  3. Bike Riders are respectable on roads in general, as they know they come off second best to cars. I think all Hubbars for or against should calm down. Cars and Taxis in SA seem not to identify with people on bikes, we invisible. Hence making road riding in SA very dangerous, we all know that I hope.. Happy days.
  4. What ever the case, motorist and taxi mainly in SA deserve the bad wrap. In Johannesburg the way taxis drive should bring the government to bring in the army let alone more unless good for noting bribe wanting traffic police. In the Cape, you still have a little law and order come to Jhb and get a taste of our roads, you will not believe how good you got it. You also not believe how far taxis can take it till you see it first hand. People get killed hear daily in by taxis. I put the blame squally on a government bent on stealing instead of ruling properly and creating what we all have forgotten , civil society !!! Back from three weeks in the USA, I tell you that we have long forgotten what a free first world society is all about. Anacary rules every where outside of the western cape. Defend you little bastion of normality. CAPE TOWN, It's like another country.
  5. I had avid brakes, had them bleed till I was bleeding ,,, Total rubbish replaced with complete sets of XTR. It's like a new bike, roller coaster and stop when u want to. Modulation a big word for slow reaction brakes. When flying down Silvermine , if your speed is high there is more modulation with good brakes. Avid lose grip after a few pulls.
  6. Took my bike to have my tyers changed from MTB to slicks for a road race, the bike shop who I will no name had the genius at the back clean the latex off ,as he must have spilled some with a wire brush. Not cheep rims now all scratched. I could not even bother complaining. Owner never checks on work done just stands behind till.... Staying away for store. So I researched this and found using spray oil or Mr min can help with a cloth. Or a eraser if its not got grit in it. It forms a rubber ball and easy to rub the stuck stuff off.
  7. Offer a reward. Make sure all staff at store and at center know about reward.
  8. In CT on holiday needed to bleed my brakes after some issues, went to CWC GREENPOINT. Thay had no mineral oil in stock - BUT manger went in the back and brought me a small bottle with enough to bleed my brakes and gave it to me no charge!!!!! Brilliant service. I bought R900 worth of nice things after that. Next day I take my new bike in for help on cableing. Did not get the bike there. They set up the bike and again did not charge me. I did spend more there and will only deal with these chaps. In Jhb not like this, goodwill like this goes a long way. Well done CWC , I can't. Believe the service.
  9. My friend was a water scientist who was working on the blue drop report. He refused to sign the report as it was false and misleading. He was promptly fired and went overseas to work for Siemens water Usa as leading new products engineering department. He told me you must filter your water in South Africa, its complelty toxi and cancer casing chemicals. Even if you use a small three stage tap filter of a Vitality jug it save your life on the long run, and a must for kids. Why in the world should the water be good, just because its clear he noted. No. He further added that the schools , roads, police and most munciple services are debunked not working and so on so - why would you expect the water to be great! He also gve me tons of info that our water is caput. Filter your water but noted not with RO for a strong of health reasons.
  10. I had the luxury recently of riding both the spec epic pro 2013 it was a month old and straight after that the Rocky Mountain 999. Both not cheep bikes. Rocky about R18 000 les. I suggest you consider both bikes as I like to say don't follow like a lemming, till you tired all.. Read reviews That Rocky was a dream to ride. It felt a bit more racy and agile. But both are really good. You need to be pro to separate them. I noted XTR brakes on Rocky (retrofit) were superb. Good luck.
  11. This will help you. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/backoffice/_upload_au/rider_height_frame_size.pdf
  12. Forgive me, but I used to work in a pawn shop, and when we had clients come in that had drug issues... And need to off load goods fast for drug money the stories went much like this one. So I am sorry if this is indeed fact, but it was a blast from the past when I read this. It had all the traits of drugs, the sincere plead, the horror story , the bazaar products for cash and the despair need for urgent cash... I did not read the full blog but just the opening and a few others, to prompt this reply. If you are truly so both sick I with you well.
  13. Well done to organizers of the 94,7. A great race. I noted yesterday the setting up of stand barriers and sweeping of streets. What a giant ordeal. And I am happy to pay for me entry. Some times you don't pay, you get nothing. This was a brilliant race. Only small concern. Coming into town from top of the wild down and past Ponti, the area be Ellis park is a collision waiting to happen with pedestrians chancing it a giants bikes going 65km or more. But what a great race.
  14. Past his "galant " efforts of placing a bomes in a bar and church, he's committed crimes of fraud, driving drunk, extorshion and bribery. He got pull in the gov to have his case set aside. We all know this. So negating as one blogger noted his heroics. He's just another criminal running down a country that was great, but is now a place for super rich government and poor people getting poorer at the hands of who they vote for. Some call my comments - loser or other , I just call it Africa. We had no Gandhi in the anc , Gandhi was a complet pacifist. To have this criminal fool involved in the police no mater who you support is just simply silly. But silly rules. I am like others very dispondent due to the decay in SA. No future for any educate persons..
  15. Well done boys, thank you thank you thank you.
  16. Please can any one give me the city and suburb of where this took place.
  17. ((So you are saying the car temperature was wrong as well? The suburu registered 42 and that wasn't at the hottest point.)) It was hotter than 41c at ground zero. Garmin use a sophisticated temperature sensor on their device. Its records max and averages every min. Sniffie, I to have rather elaborate understanding of such devices and temp reading apparatus. I will tell you that in parts of the ride according to the graph I studied it reached past 41c and it is likely that it reached 44c. As at that specific point the reading was recorded. Even if the calibration was out by a degree, which is unlikely as the averages were very high and 43c could have been for a short period, but I assure you no mystifying with presence of science will negate what is fact. You may befuddle some, but some who ride bikes also have lectured on physics to post graduates so you are saying the car temperature was wrong as well? Possible, but I am happy to use the Garmin graphs as accurate reading at that point at that time. The suburu registered 42 and that wasn't at the hottest point. Take it that it was past 41c for a good hour or two at some time around 12.30. I don't believe it reached 48c as one cyclist wrote, but I am sure there were temps on the trail of 41-43c at some parts of the first days ride for at least one or two hours for the slow riders. Moral ride fast.. Very fast.
  18. Yes agree, that could stop any time. Sani and Berg and even Joberg2c are for good riders who are very fit and can handel a bike. The rides / races are made to for real fun and test you skilled and fitness. If you want to prove your man hood then their are other great races, like the Epic and the 2500 km race across Sa and so on. Epic exception to the rule as a int race and heavily booked up. The top three races are full andSani over booked as people want to have fun more so than boasting rights. Once you get that right its even more fun. They want to see great sceanary, scream down some incredible single track and spin the legs where needed. This is another reason why these race cost plenty to enter , they should be very well organized. Sani is that one type of race. With no Sms communication to Burg riders a lot did not know about the shorter route and opted not to ride as the first days heat made a great trail, miserably unpleasant due to heat alone. I seen my buddy's graphs from his Garmin - for three hours day one it's was hovering between 39 and 43c. To ride in this heat is stupid. Not fun and fatality wating in side line for the old riders. The army suspends all training past 41C. What was the number of persons treated for heat stock? I am told some of the water points were running out of water and ice. I sure no one could have predicted such heat, but if the weather man said 40 plus plan ahead. He told me it was a great race, I plan to do it next year- but he has full right to moan - even if their was more much more right than wrong. This is not a communist state yet and we can all past comment, hopefully the hub remains a free open post. I believe there is room for improvement at Berg judging from what I hear and read. At 4000 a pop things should be better than Veld school. Unless some like living like that.. MTBing is real fun, it must stay that way. It's up to the indivualy to not forget what it's about. Read Bikemag from the Usa should you think its a test of strength , stamina or bravado. If any one boast they done three races and they tough.. They got a lot to toughen up. However if they in top 20 or 50 they can boast as much as they want and comment till the cows come out. Happy MTB ing.
  19. What was the ride like today? Km ? Temp ? What was the 38km like yesterday ?
  20. Agreed Still think first group should ride as the first light. Lost of sun block , hydration and fastbait but then again some common sense should prevail. Rinding must be fun, if some one wants to show how strong you are do the 2500 km race across SA.
  21. Something must be done. Please advise for a non ct where this is. .
  22. I saw my buddy's Garmin He started at 7.40 and it shows for about three hours in some parts it was 38C to 43C. I was shocked to see this. He told me it was his worst day on a bike. Should the race not be called off? I told that over 100 did not finish the first day and day two was reduced to 38km due to the heat and a bit of wind. I also told that there 60 suffering from heat stock. Is this fun a MTB ing ? Can any one shed light on this. My suggestion , first group start at the crack of dawn, making the middle and and back groups rinding at a reasonable time of day.

    XX1

My experience, XX1 is finicky. Shimano is reliable and strong, but not as sexy to look at. Both good , some happy with XX some happy with Shimano. Best test is when you had both. My next bike will have Shimano, no mater how long this forum list goes with paid or unpaid compliments for SRAM. Next bike Shimano for me. My buddy's new bikes, some are rated MTB riders - Shimano and few waiting for the the new Shimano single front chain ring. And get what works for you. Trying out what is best for you is best . Also the lack service one gets from SRAM SOUTH AFRICA, makes it a easy choice. Night night.
  24. After a cold and cough when its safe to train. My ears are still blocked a bit and my noise a bit, but feel fine but not my strong self at all. Any Dr out there? Got big race in 10 days
