  1. Garmin Edge 500  You will thank me later. If you have the extra dosh and are more of a tech geek, get the Garmin Edge 510.
  2. You dont need Training Centre to use Garmin Connect online. I love the Garmin devices but the software programs for you pc and online are very basic and sucks ass most of the time. If you want to track your equipment, analyse you power training, customise or go into much more detail, invest in proper training software. I've been using SportTracks for years and it kicks ass with it being openwear where there are many developers writing plugins to satisfy your wildest desire!
  3. I have been racing 50mm tubbies in just about any extreme condition for years without any issues and I am in the same weigh class 87kg. Keep your hands lightly on the bar and most of all, keep pedalling, your balance and control is so much better when pedalling.
  4. No, I gave my reasons as to why I am sticking to 3 in the thread about the upgrade. Not worth it, slows some processes down actually. I'm waiting for the next update
  5. Giant ... No contest!
  6. Shot bud! Carbon Italian components I might consider ... but a Fondriest .. Neva! (ask Mtb_roadie how many he has cracked ) Ill stick wiv my pure bred Pina fanks!
  7. Shot Guys!! Did a lekka ride early this morning with my love! Standing in the bike shop, keeping you oaks on the road and trails! (also looking at what I should get as a from me - to me pressie! ) Have a safe and superb new year gents and ladies! All the best!
  8. I battled with a unit with this exact problem for quite some time a while back. Tried everything, different computers, different cables, different ports, resets, soft resets, all to no avail. Then I remembered I had a usb hub, one of those 6 port hubs. It must have been an older one because I stopped using it since every time I connected a device to it, I got a message that I have connected the device at a slower speed usb port and I can connect faster using the other ports on the pc itself. Anyway, connecting through the usb hub made the device visible for the first time and I was able to do the software upgrade through the Garmin website. Thereafter the unit worked 100% on any port with any cable. Then I had the same problem with another unit and thought I would try my trusted old usb hub again. Did not work, no matter what I tried. Concluded that the connection points inside the unit was loose, Garmin confirmed this and replaced the unit with a new one!
  9. HOLD IN the LAP + MENU buttons then hit the POWER button. Try as above. If that does not work. Connect the USB cable to the unit and keep the MENU button pressed in for at least 3 seconds after connecting. You dont need Garmin Communicator for the unit to be visible as an external drive. Most USB cables should work, not only the Garmin USB cable. The only cable that will not work is the cable where the two points on either end is switched around. The unit will see it as a power supply only and not a connection to another device. In other words, if you plug the unit in and it goes to your normal screen not the charging one, use a different cable.
  10. Plug the unit in to your pc with USB. Do a soft reset while plugged in, this will reload the "external device" driver
  11. ... and yes, it has been posted before.
  12. That is true. Wont make a difference now and no point in going down the "what if" route either. It just p*sses me off to the bone seeing fellow cyclist endangering their own lives. The fact that it is law to wear a helmet on public roads, seems to bother them not! I am amazed daily at how few people know this law.
  13. Sounds bad ... no helmet?

    MTB Size

No I ride XL in Giant, that is 22" On the Merida I could still get away with L since the top tube is much more horizontal than Giant which means I can get my saddle out far enough. Different sizes and geometries between the manufacturers

    MTB Size

Keep in mind that sizes differ between brands. Merida's XL is 23" and their L = 21" Based on your length alone I would have put you on a Large Merida. ... but if you are built like me 1.87m with very long legs, I ride XL because I cant get my saddle out high enough on the L.
  16. Yea, all these oaks ride like dumbasses! Seems like a regular occurrence for Avid riders. A quick tally of the brakes we need to send in for repairs today. We have done all we possibly could. AVID 4 Shimano 0
  17. Rather ask any workshop which brakes give the most problems and stop worring what the pro's win with because the are on new brakesets faster than you can change gears. Avid Juicy ... sucks ass big time Avid Elixer ... screams and shouts all day long without stopping a thing. Avid, avid stay away from avid.
  18. Ja not as pricey as Grippp ... I just rinse them and let them dry indoors. That leather on the palm is soft and doesnt like drying in direct sunlight. They are just so comfy and fit ... well, like a glove!
  19. I use Giro Monaco and they are awesome. Not the Giro Bravo, they get a bit hot.
  20. I read your post before getting on my bike this morning and the quoted section stuck in my head. While out enjoying the beautiful Boland & Winelands, I started thinking about some numbers, wondering what would be a good number to honor Madiba with. 27 - the number of years he spent in jail 95 - the number of years he spent roaming the place we call home. '95 - Also the year we won the Rugby World Cup with Mandela as President. Remembered him and Francois Pienaar holding the Webb Ellis trophy, proud as a nation, united. 111 - Know as "Nelson" in cricket, nothing to do with Nelson Mandela but none the less. Unfortunately I could not just stop my ride on 111km since I was not done and about 30kms from home still. Forgot about the numbers and finished my ride, only to see I rode 146.6km ... close enough to 46664 for me!
  21. Dont they manufacture slick tires for 26ers anymore? Oh wait ... they dont manufacture 26ers anymore!
  22. What are the issues?
  23. No it wont work, sell the SPAM and get her Shimano. Much easier!
  24. No you are paying more for a Ligther frame and the Fox fork. The 1500 is a lighter frame than the XT. I still think the Big Nine XT compares better to the Silverback in question. On the XT you have a better crank, shifters and deraileurs than the Silverback. XT vs SLX. The fork on the Silverback is only marginally better than that of the XT. And the wheelset, well the rims more exactly are slightly better on the Silvercrack.
  25. Insane stuff!! Wonder how many new threads there will still be a year for now when some sleepy-heads discover this video for the first time?
