  1. The dualies of the winners wiv them brain shocks are not really that comfortable, it is a pretty hard ride with a very aggressive setup, they might as well be on hard tails. Sure it would be a bit easier on the body come stage 4 and beyond. But I asked myself if I really wanted to carry an extra 1.3kg over 16 000m of climbing, which will slow me down even more and the answer was a simple NO.
  2. Everyone moans at one point or another during this race! Done it on a hardtail ... doing it on a hardtail again next year ... 29er of course. I thinks the stats for 2013 were that 86% of the field are on 29ers. (64% in 2012 and 23% in 2011) Kinda obvious choice for this cross country event
  3. Check out Sidi's Mega range, it is much wider and this goes up to size 52! http://www.sidisport...&id=59&lng_riv= If you see something you fancy, let me know I can order in!
  4. Go to your HR setting Choose - Hear Rate Monitor > No Switch unit off Switch unit back on HR Settings again Choose - Heart Rate Monitor > Yes > Search (HR strap on chest) That should pair it again and clear all previous errors
  5. Bryton is waaaaaay too far behind to catch up or pass Garmin. Remember their first two units were copies of a certain competitor! Garmin 1 000 000 000 000 : Bryton 0 (they are still lost .... with or without it)
  6. Good question ....
  7. Problem with sticking a sim card in there, you need more functions and then ... well you basically need a phone, with data and airtime and we are back to the phone. Garmin developers said that if they could eliminate the like between phone and the unit, they would but the problem is that internet is not free in most parts of the world. Yea, the 500 is an awesome unit, nice and compact ... its just been upgraded, thats all
  8. Different bike, different disciplines, requires different info. For TT, I dont care much about elevation, much more about power and ave power For Mtb, I dont car much for cadence but much more for elevation. For training, I like seeing all the not so important info but during I only want to focus on what is important We agree, Garmin Disconnect sucks ass big time but I read somewhere that some clever hackers have written a app where you can upload to Strava, Endomondo or wherever you choose. So the bluetooth protocol is there to connect with your smartphone, clever move since we need some sort of internet connectivity to upload gps data to a website, since we are very unlikely to receive free internet in any of the 3rd world countries anytime soon, connecting with a smartphone was probably the best solution. Live tracking works ... just a shame it works on Garmin Disconnect but as I said, some cleaver hackers can make it work on other sites also. Edit: spelling
  9. They offered to exchange it after getting the international warranty no problem ... but they point blank ONLY offered the blue unit un return. I had no choice at the time. Took the blue they offered, sold it and imported the lovely Red ... again!
  10. Disagree ... you just havent played with the 510 long enough! 10 Bike profiles (I have 6) Personal Records Race & Train Profiles (I like different stats while racing ... power, ave's etc) Easier to change info, just tap and hold what you wanna change Easier to swich between bike profiles Touch screen Colour screen Live tracking, bluetooth and being able to upload to Garmin Connect is just a bonus! 510
  11. The unit is Red, that is all. The bundle includes HR strap and cadence sensor. Garmin SA did not want to honor warranty on the red units last time I sent a red one in. They told me that they only bring the blue unit in. Fork knows why they only do the blue unit, I don't have any blue on my bike! They could not give me an answer either. They did offer an international warranty at 500 bucks. Not sure if they have changed their story of late?
  12. For those that wanted to see, here is the 27.5 Giant Anthem 1
  13. 510 all the way! It is smaller than the 800. The 510 has some nice new features which is not on the 800. Other than that the only other thing the 800 offers is maps and that is someting you never use. If you want maps, use you phone or car gps. I dont have time to stare at a screen that tells me where to go, I need to look where I am going!
  14. Between the Crossmark and Ikon, Crossmark for tar for sure. Has a thread pattern straight down the middle, perfect for many miles on the tarmac, The Crossmark's sidewall (UST) is also much thicker and stronger than the Ikon (Tubeless Ready) Maxxis Crossmarks
  15. There is an easier way to save you shoes, get a 29er, then you will be able to ride over the big rocks!
  16. Yea, if you wanna ride tar, get a 29er. If you wanna ride jeeptrack, get a 29er. If you wanna ride singletrack, get a 29er. If you wanna ride trails, get a 29ee. But if you wanna ride dirt roads, get a 26er
  17. What pedals? Loosen the tension on the pedal. Check the cleats on your shoes ... might need replacing if badly worn.
  18. They will be bringing the X2 and X3 in also But since these are not as popular as the X1 they are only to be expected end of November. For the money you can save while you wait (now till Dec) rather get the much better specked X1 than the X2!
  19. Done!
  20. When my X told me to choose ... her or cycling? I said ... "Ek gaan jou mis"
  21. ALWAYS!!
  22. Eggzactly, that is the way we get them from the factory. We can make any changes your heart desires thereafter!
  23. Yup, the Anthem Advanced X1, full XT groupset with Fox CTD. (carbon) The Anthem X1 has SLX groupset with XT rear derailleur also with Fox CTD front and rear! (alloy)
  24. If they could only do the Advanced in the same Green as my XTC instead of blue ... match made in heaven ... one of each!
