  1. Wow...even for the short time I've been on this forum he was always the last word on anything technical. And amazing explanations too.. Hope you stay on the Hub Sir!
  2. Better wheelset. The shimanos are heavy. Save up man...
  3. You guys are dicks. The OP is deaf if I remember correctly. Try helping before you act like asses. Nice way to start your weekly karma!
  4. Yeah I'm with you there... Just sounds like someone who had a *** race so had to blame it on the bubbly water, instead of his jelly legs...
  5. Yeah I don't see how that works... But it is definitely uncomfortable to drink...
  6. Yeah also don't get this... If you don't like how an organisation is run, why not leave it?
  7. Hell yes. Although that would be a monumental undertaking... Especially with all the complaints of people who are smoothing out trails... Imagine a published poll and getting gnarly trails downgraded thanks to the mommies?
  8. Where are they based?
  9. Not for a 29er... Giggity
  10. Gees just saw the prices of the mavics cosmic carbones on evobikes... Seriously, at that price, awesome!
  11. Somebody's been watching too much Line of Sight...
  12. As far as I remember from my bmx days, almost all the bmx tubes come with schrader...
  13. I have the cosmic carbone sl. The ones with the alu brake tracks. Weight is around 1750g for the set, but apparently they have far superior hubs in their price range. The crosswind effect is felt, and certainly not a huge problem. The mavics are 50mm, so at the point of great advantage without massive crosswind effect. Once you learn to not fight the wind, and let your hands get a little loose on the steering, you start to flow with the bike in windy conditions. Seriously not an issue. But it's all about what's going to work for you... They may not be great in a pack, ie, no advantage, but when you're out front or on your own, even in small groups, the advantage is definitely there and felt. Worth it for my riding...
  14. I really enjoy my deep sections. They're really good for making you feel fast, and I definitely feel a tiny bit fresher at the end of a ride... I've had the American classic 58, we're decent, currently on mavic comics. I wheels with great hubs. Everyone here will recommend the zipps, so be prepared for that, but don't shy away. The cosmics are great wheels and from everywhere i searched, they're bombproof too. Not the lightest but who cares about 200grams? Go for it man... Plus they always make any bike look hella sexy!
  15. You'll be fine off road for 500m. I've done a few ks off road on my 23c tyres, just put it in a nice high gear and take it easy... Find a bike that fits. The rest you'll figure out. Not challenging Chris Froome so don't overspend on a pleasure ride bike. You'll find loads of great bargains here on the Hub. Seek and ye shall find, ask, and it shall be given. Enjoy your cycling! I'm super jealous, I have to drive about 50km to get to the cradle. Few places better to ride!
  16. The number hands are from a bad fit.
  17. For the majority of South African road races, aero rims are the better choice. We ride fairly flat and fast races here, and unless you're racing with a training group, you're more likely to have a lot of alone time... Hence, aero outweighs the slight weight penalty.
  18. Has been discussed at length. Try I cycle. They've just paid out one of my claims, albeit it with slight hassle. Contact sean@icycle.co.za
  19. I know what you're saying... But just in case he takes that line seriously, a new group set isn't worth it unless you're planning on keeping the bike for ages... They don't add he same amount of value to the bike as they cost... So not worth it. Do the above, and any budget left over, spend on decent quality extras like clothes, sunnies, helmet, shoes, etc. But the bike fit had to be done. Will really make the biggest difference.
  20. WHEELS! Get a nice set. Deep sections make the most difference, and always make you feel great on your bike. Also, invest the small amount in a bike fit at cyclefit.co.za. Will change your experience for the better. Shifting? Don't see why it would be sluggish... Unless it has something to do with the bike sitting for a while. Maybe take it for a good service with new cables and a good lube job. And of course, a saddle that fits your sit bones. Done. Don't spend anything else. It'll just be a waste.
  21. Have to agree here. What we have on the Hub is something very unique. A forum where oir complaints are usually seen by the retailer and responses are certainly numerous. Usually an issue gets resolved by smart retailers who know what's good for them. Let's not forget what our components cost. You're talking about 100s of thousands of rands spent every day on cycle goodies. You bet we'll keep complaining when service is shite. I have personally benefitted from complaints made here, and advice given, and of course the classifieds. I hope the place doesn't change. Don't like it? No one is forcing you to be here. You're more than welcome to leave. In fact, the Internet has a very fitting acronym for this situation. GTFO.
  22. Retirement helmet! Buy it and they can retire!
  23. Not sure. The person I spoke to said theirs was like 8 kms round trip? But I see from other replies that there are much longer ones... After this thread I feel like such a yuppie... I enjoy golf quite a bit, and love my cycling too! Haha although maybe I have some reprieve as I'm a roadie... Seems MTB is the golfer sport...
