  1. If you are new to mountain biking it may be a good idea to book yourself onto one of the Tread Skills Clinics, they are in the Gauteng area. I did Intermediate 1 and 2 with my son recently and in 2 we were going down some drop offs that I would not have considered riding before.
  2. I don't like the geometry of the Scott Aspect, while the Axis looks like it wants to be raced.
  3. The Scott is equipped with a slightly better groupset than the Axis, i.e Shimano Deore on the Scott vs Shimano Aliveo on the Axis. The Axis looks quite cool though.
  4. I'm probably posting this too late, but what the hell............ Great choice - Try to get the 2013 model though, as the new lefty should require less maintenance.
  5. Hi, I bought this Scott Genius MC30 in 2008 and I have been using it mostly for marathon and a bit of trail riding. I have now bought a 29er and I have this sudden urge to mess arround with a bit of DH. Do you guys think the Genius is up to it? It won't be too serious as my skills won't allow it.........
  6. I have ordered from CRC about 6 times. Place order on Monday. collect at P.O on Friday. But like Cowboylegs said "there is a transport strike on".
  7. You will feel like this for a couple of weeks, according to Dr T.N it is your body going into a sort of carb withdrawal. Carry on training, but don't push yourself too hard. Eventually your body will get used to burning fat for fuel and the flat and tired feeling goes away.
  8. As some other hubbers mentioned, it is very important to remove the core from the valve as this restricts the airflow and you don't get the air into the tyre fast enough to seat it.
  9. I was just responding to a suggestion that it be held on the freeway.Having been run over by motorists twice, I am certainly keen to join, as it is definitely neccessary to raise awareness of cyclists on the roads.
  10. There was an incident about 2 years ago when a motorist ploughed his way through a huge group of motorcyclists during a Toy Run...... What chance will 200 cyclists have on the N2 with a speed limit of 120km/h?
  11. I finally did it this year after wanting to do it for years. What a great route. Will definitely try to do it next year again. Will be great to not start in the back bunch though and get cought in that bottleneck on the Ou Wa Pad.

I also did the K2C for the 1st time and loved it, although my backside still hurts. Was also worried that I would have enough gears with the 2 x 10 setup on my Flash Alu 29er, but I only used the very big gear at the back once or twice. I managed to spin nicely up all the hills and did a time of 5:04.
  13. I bought the Cateye V3 Triple Wireless from CRC and very happy with it. Cost about R1200, and loads of info, Speed, Cadence, Heart Rate, Dist, Time, Ave speed, Ave Heart Rate, Ave Cadence, Max Speed, Max Heart Rate, Max Cadence, Calories Consumed.
  14. I lost 16kg's by cutting down on my carb intake and increasing my protein intake, and exercising more. The funny thing is that so many people have complimented me on my weight loss and have asked me how I did it, but after I shared with them, you get - I could never do that because I like potatoes too much or I like pasta too much. People are so set in their habits it is too difficult for them to try something new or to accept that what they are doing is wrong, despite the fact that they are obese. For me I am 45 and I feel and look better than I did when I was 25, thanks to a high protein low carb diet.

Yea your Doc's not going to tell you about it, it only costs about R50.00 a bottle which will last you a year. I drink 6 drops in a glass of water almost every morning. I trained right through winter, the wife and kids all had flu but not me.

Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, will have you sorted before the weekend. Go to your local health shop.
  17. I have changed my eating habits based on Dr Tim Noakes high protein, low carb eating plan. I lost 16 kg's in 3 months. During a recent 50 km mtb race I was passing guys half my age going up hills, before it was me being passed. Have a look around you at your next race and see how many overweight people there are........ Too many people think that because you are an athlete you have to eat massive amounts of carbs!
  18. Hi Brad My son has the Clarks Skeletal's on his BMC. I actually bought them to use on a singlespeed that I was planning on building, but did not get very far. The brakes look far better than they perform. They are pretty much budget brakes, after a short while they start rattling quite a bit, and the reach adjust bolt keeps on turning itself out, sorted by a bit of loctite though. In terms of stopping power I suppose that they are not too bad. Anyway my 13 year old son thinks they are cool.
  19. At CRC prices I pay the R100 shipping + 14% vat with a smile
  20. Still no through axle on the Fox shock!!!!!! Makes me super glad I decided to go for the Cannondale Alu Flash 1, and not wait for the new Scott's.
  21. I was looking at these exact same bikes, until I saw the Cannondale Flash, then my mind was made up straight away. Quite a bit over budget though, but what a nice ride. The 2013 Scott Scale's are out now, so have a look at that as well, now specced with a Fox shock and mix of XT & SLX. Good luck
  22. My youngster was looking forward to the Spur race tomorrow, but that has been postponed due to the weather. We cycled arround Norm Hudlin yesterday and man what a mud bath. I don't know how Lex is going fix the trail.....
  23. Now that brings new meaning to the phrase "black is beautiful"
  24. Hi Alison I just bought a new 29er MTB. I was looking at the usual suspects i.e Scott Scale, Momsen, Silverback, etc but then I saw the Cannondale Flash and I fell in love. I got the Alloy Flash 1 for just over R21000, I am 1.75 and the medium fits like a glove. I am more comfortable on it than on my 26" medium Scott. Good luck
