  1. My son's Flash also had a terrible creak coming from the seatpost. I tried everything but nothing helped. As a last resort I cut a couple of mm off the bolts that hold the water bottle cage on the seat tube. Problem solved. It seems that the bolts were rubbing against the seatpost.
  2. Have a look at the picture that I posted on page 1.
  3. My apologies Grebel, mistook your comment for a sarcastic dig. Yes, you so often hear people refer to a dualie as a soft tail. The Tread magazine had an article a while ago explaining the difference.
  4. That's how the Hub works isn't it? We all share and learn from each other. No sarcasm needed.
  5. Yip, this is a soft tail.
  6. There were some posts about this sometime ago. You basically have to very carefully drill out the lugs on the frame where the outer cables currently end, so that the continuous outers can pass through. A Dremel tool might do the trick.
  7. I take it you came right. Don't worry we all have to start somewhere. At least you are trying. So many guys just drop their bikes off at the LBS. I enjoy working on my bikes.
  8. The SRAM cranks are self extracting. You turn the inner bolt out with an 8mm (usually) allen key, this pushes against the big outer bolt and pulls the crank off. If you have taken the big outer bolt off, then you need to put it back, preferably with some locktite.
  9. "Kargo Mountain Bike Team for 2014: Shaun Peschl, Rourke Croeser, Stuart Marais, Travis Walker, Patrick Belton, Paul Rodenbach, Siyabonga Njiva, Marco Joubert, James Damant." This is so awesome, Marco Joubert, a 17 year old youngster from Port Elizabeth, riding for a Pro team like Kargo.
  10. I was a bit hasty as 80mm stems are quite scarce. Well expensive lesson learned, as even if the payment is reversed the costs are R160.00
  11. Fake fsa and Ritchey stems. He claims that he never said that they were fsa and Ritchey stems but the branding on the stems are fsa and Ritchey???
  12. The stems looked ok, I ordered one, then some guys started posting how this guy was selling fake parts and is now still doing it but under a different name. They had words, next thing the add and WP are gone!!!!!
  13. The add has been removed already, and WP dissapeared. Think admin might have closed him down??
  14. I feel like an idiot. I fell for the fake stems, even paid for one already. To W.P Ackermann - don't bother posting the stem, I have instructed my bank to reverse the payment.
  15. You are supposed to turn the reach almost all the way in before you bleed so it is normal to have to turn it out again after. Brakes should be firm if all the air is out the system.
  16. Came across this link for the XT's :- http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/blog/how-to-bleed-new-shimano-brakes/
  17. Ja work can really get in the way of the real pleasures in life, like working on and riding ones bike. Bit of a catch 22 really, because without it I would'nt be able to afford my bikes. Oh well..... I'm really curious as to wether or not the Avid bleed procedure will work on the XT's. I see the XT's have some other contraption, some sort of vacuum funnel/pump?
  18. Now stop posting and go bleed your brakes.
  19. Yea I see you never really needed any help. This thread was actually to boast about your DIY skills and tools.
  20. Good point. Not mentioned in the procedure?? But take the pads out, push pistons completely in and insert a bleed block into the caliper. Thats where it is handy having the bleed kit as it comes with a variety of bleed blocks as well.
  21. Yip that should do the trick. Do you have an Avid bleed kit? A bit expensive, but worth it if you have a few bikes to take care of.
  22. Hi G The first thing that I would do is connect an empty syringe to the lever bleed port and a half full syringe to the calipre bleed port and then push the oil from the syringe at the calipre end through into the syringe at the lever end. This should push most of the air out the system. Then proceed with the bleed procedure.
  23. Very good procedure for bleeding Avid brakes, I have used this on 2 of my bikes and it works well (if you have the Avid bleed kit). Not sure if this same procedure will work on the XT's, I have not needed do try it yet. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/avid-reg-juicy-caliper-brake-bleed-service
  24. Mmmmmm I gues that I assumed that you are using a standard brake bleed syringe. My bad if you are not. Not that it will matter though, what you don't use just empty back into the bottle! What brakes are they, by the way?
  25. Hi G Half a syringe will be more than enough.
