  1. Pictures are great. The bike sucks. Italian, steel built with crappy groupset and parts!

  3. Agreed! Show us some more please
  4. There was a 50km option too?
  5. I rode Brooks spring type on my Dutch bike commuting in London. It's a hardy saddle and I never had issues with squeaking. A squeaking saddle is not from the springs but from leather over the seat rails. A bit of 3 in 1 oil sorts it out. I also have a B17 and it's a do all saddle. Can't talk about weight. Just finished Eroica South Africa 140km ride on my Brooks Select!
  6. Agreed. Good time to stop take in the views, have another sip of wine, etc. Its only 140kms!
  7. Hi Anton. Looking forward to seeing you and your bike. A couple of us looking to leave from Zoo Lake Moyo parking lot at about 7:00 and make our way to the start. Look out for bright neon pink and blue Zini, blue Vitus KAS team colours, Eddy Merckx (old bloke with bright red and yellow jersey), red and black Alpina, a couple of Bianchi including a very cool titanium bike. To keep the peace I will probably wear a helmet!
  8. HeyYou, you need to register AND pay to enter! hahahaha!
  9. CLASSIC RETRO RIDE Sorry for the late notification, but this Sunday is the next Jozi Freedom Ride starting from Braamfontein to Soweto and back. http://www.freedomride.co.za/joburg/ I am riding together with the missus, my son and Kamaalo all the way from Cape Town. JMK1 and a few buddies are joining us in Braamfontein after start in Randburg/Jan Smuts Ave. Please feel free to register and come along. Entry is free but please make a donation. It would be nice if we can all meet up and ride together. Please contact me by PM or via WhatsApp 0730693979 for further info or to confirm.
  10. Just received this message and realised I need to cram in some last minute training! http://us10.campaign-archive2.com/?u=aa91201fae505b8956a1d7f19&id=590c29d054&e=d5000bbd68
  11. A little rain on the roads Friday night will make for an easier ride!
  12. Finishing off this Eddy Merckx 10th anniversary limited edition. The Merckx frame was released in 1990 to celebrate Eddy Merckx' first decade as a frame maker. The groupset is a late 80's Campagnolo Athena with 7 speed friction gearing. Anyone have Campagnolo pedals to the completed build? Eddy Merckx panto Cinelli stem and NOS ExA hexagon bars (still need to make some bar end caps unless someone out there has a pair?) finished with some Coppi cork bar tape. White Rolls saddle and Kalloy seatpost (27mm). NOS Campagnolo bottle and cage. Older Record hubs and 7 speed Sachs block shod on Mavic GP 4 tubbies.
  13. The biggest mistake is that the author didn't get Vic to show him all his bikes which total a lot more than that stated! Please keep that Motta safe for me, thanks.
  14. Even harder to find are replacement cleats!
  15. What's with the cold weather kit guys? It's only Autumn. Nice pics!
  16. Now that appeals to me greatly. Just saying, Athena groupset so underrated.
  17. Very nice gesture DJR! I don't have a Le Jeune but know there a few fine examples in CT.
  18. I have been really surprised how well the Alpina and Zini have handled the single track along the Spruit on their 23c and 25c tyres respectively. It was probably my first time riding off road with normal road bike since school days. After each ride I wiped the grass seed and mud off the bikes and they look good again. I run dry wax lube so no major grime on the drivetrain. Really happy with ride quality and looking to try out some farm roads this weekend
  19. Looking forward to meeting you DJR. I think most of us had similar problems. My main issue was that no ways am I taking my older bikes with rare groupsets out on gravel roads. My solution was to build up two new bikes, SA build frames. It's been fun and my missus and I are enjoying riding around on the bikes and even the hills don't seem to be that much of a problem as you relearn how to "grind"the gears. Over the past few months I accumulated some older brake levers and callipers (1st ten DA and 600 series) which I am using temporarily on my Eroica builds so that I can have exposed brake cable housings and able to fit larger tyre sizes. I aim to swap back the newer aero parts after the Eroica. I have some more down tube shifters and other bits that I am willing to sell if anyone requires something. My Alpina front fork can't accommodate a larger tyre than 23c so that's what I am going to ride.
  20. Thank you to Rolfaps for agreeing to part with 26.8mm seat post for the Zini. The shims I made were not working and the saddle was moving after riding for a while. Thank you!
  21. 54cm Alpina SLX with Dura-Ace 7400 series groupset. The 1st gen levers will be swapped back to later model after Eroica. Ambriosio rims on 600 hubs. Brooks Professional Select. 49cm Zini 501 with 600 6400 tricolour groupset. The 1st gen levers and callipers will be swapped as above. Brand, spanking new Brooks limited edition LÉroica saddle. Zini running 25c tyres whilst Alpina 23c. I don't have money for new tyres.
  22. Here is some crank arms I have. Shimano 600 RHS 6400. Length 172.5mm. I found a no-name LHS arm which works but would be nice to find 6400 LHS. Also available for sale.
  23. This arrived yesterday. I was fortunate to have won this lovely limited edition Brooks LÉroica saddle a few days ago after entering my Alpina and the wife's Zini in a competition by the Eroica South Africa organisers.
  24. Eppie, that is a very nice bike you have there. Well done! Idea!!!!!!!! Many of us have odd crank arms lying about or are missing either a left or right hand side arm. How about everyone going through their stockpiles of goodies and then posting some pictures of the crank arms you have for sale or want to buy the opposite arm?
