  1. I see nothing wrong with their stance. As long their attitude and mannerism towards said cyclists is professional, I see no problem with them setting a particular dress code. I like eating there and it's nice to know I won't be sitting on a chair smeared in bum cream or handle a salt and pepper dispenser that is covered in sweat and dirt.
  2. Unlucky Emil! Broken arm on day 2! I was really gunning for this team.
  3. Our blue lap yesterday was 31km and then a 500m walk to the car. When I rode last year it was 30km. I don't think you missing anything. My wife also said to me she saw on the notice board that the blue was supposed to be 22km. I think that's where the problem lies.
  4. Rode BRB yesterday for only the 2nd time. Last time was over a year ago. I had an absolute blast. Have to up my game with the pump track section though. Planned on doing 2 laps of blue but my wife had a side wall tear in the last 1km of our first lap. Will be back soon.
  5. I ordered 6 various pairs. 3 for me and 3 for my wife. Minor victory is the standard 7-11 size fits me perfectly but slightly too big for my wife. I now have 6 awesome pairs. On the downside, I have an unhappy wife asking when smaller sizes will be manufactured.
  6. Did the race last year with my wife and stayed in the luxury tents. It was definitely worth the money. Only problem is now she has already put in her request for the luxury tents again.
  7. Simple trick I saw on youtube was to concentrate on areas where you are braking. I.e. Are you braking in a corner or turn where maybe with improved skill you won't have to brake. The result of this through 1 single turn/corner might be negligible but over the course of a 4/5 hour ride, you could save yourself a couple minutes without evening working on your fitness.
  8. I rode at Heia Safari in the rain on 16 December last year. The trails were amazingly compact and no sludge at all.
  9. Thanks for a lekker morning! Looking forward to the next one.
  10. Thanks for a lekker morning! Looking forward to the next one.
  11. My wife and I will be there. Looking forward to it.
  12. I had terrible allergies and sinus problems. 2 years ago my ENT recommended I use a spray called Avamys daily. Not cheap per bottle but lasts just over 2 months with one spray in each nostril. It has worked better than any cortisone pills or injections I used to take.
  13. My wife and I started cycling about 2 years ago and the bug has bitten in a big way. We've been putting in the miles and been to a Tread Skills clinic and our strength on the bike has improved greatly the last 6 months. With this improvement however and our average speeds ticking up each month from 13 to now 17/18km/h we are finding that we seem to be falling a lot more often than we used to. I fell into a storm water drain last week after going around a corner too fast and sliding on loose sand and my wife had a spectacular OTB at Van Gaalens on Sunday and dented and cracked her helmet on a rock. Luckily nothing serious except a stiff neck and a bruised ego, oh and to fork out money for a new helmet.
  14. Just ordered 6 pairs. Looking forward to trying these out. Some high visibility options would be great in the future.
  15. Afternoon guys and girls. My wife and are keen to ride. With the current spike in attacks we are looking for a group to ride with. What time and where do you start?
  16. My wife and I bought entry level bikes last year June. Being ignorant and not knowing much, the salesman advised a 26er hardtail for my wife because of her height (1.6m). Cut a long story short, in May this year we ended up buying a 2nd hand Dual Sus Giant Anthem XW 29er (R15k) for her off the hub and the difference it made to her enjoyment on the trails was incredible. It was not so much the Dual Sus that made a difference but more the 29er wheels being able to tackle certain sections far more easily than the 26er. If we knew then what we know now, I would not have waisted my time with buying the entry level bike for R5k. Basically had to end up giving it away for free.
  17. I downloaded a whole bunch of routes off of endomondo. Some of the routes ended up going over "closed" property because the routes were for races. But they still gave a general idea of where to go. As always with Van Gaalens, unless you ride with someone that has been, chances are you will get lost. Plus side though is you will get lost on some awesome trails. Was there on Sunday and did Concrete strips, Oom Piet and the river back to the parking. Was a great 4hr ride.
  18. From my experience, the best thing to do is take those Avids off and throw them in the bin. Had numerous headaches with my wife's bike but no disasters until last week. Mechanic had to rebleed after each stage of wines 2 whales race last week and on the final stage the rear brake didn't work at all for the last 20km's. Needless to say, bike is at LBS and a set of SLX brakes are being installed.
  19. Wife and I starting in G on day 1 of the race. First W2W for us but really excited and nervous for the event. Will be riding as part of the Food Lover's Market contingent.
  20. That was the best race I have done this year! Was a great route, the seedings seemed spot on. From 45km to 60km was some tough but thoroughly enjoyable mountain biking. Really need to improve my climbing. Averaged 21km/h for the first 45km and last 10km but that 15km stretch really slowed me down only managing 10km/h.
  21. In H batch for marathon. Missed moving up a batch by 0.1. Gives me something to aim for on Saturday.
  22. My wife and I (In Food Lover's Market kit - Batch E) did our first marathon after starting mountain biking a year ago. Finished in 4:40. Garmin measured an average temp of 32 and max of 39. The route was everything I expected from what I had read. The water points were great and at just the correct distances apart. Thanks to all the volunteers involved cause without them it would not be possible. It grates me a little reading about all the complaints on here with regards to the water points. Without these people, the events wouldn't be possible. The behavior of all the adult competitors was great except for the teenagers doing the 25km. My wife and I almost got taken out by a few of them on the single track just before their turn-off. I had a big smile on my face when I saw the same teenagers on the tar road having to turn around because they missed their turn-off. So if your son was at the front end of the 25km race, please teach them some etiquette.
