  1. Is the main part of Red Hill a hotspot? I obliviously ride over there alone all the time in both directions. I knew there had been some issues with hikers up near the dam, but that is WAY off the main road. It is a fantastic climb from both sides and is a good way to link the atlantic side with the False Bay side when doing a loop.
  2. I look forward to that! We are R10000 short of an early bird entry! So close to being able to pull the trigger and start raising some funds for the woofers and meowers
  3. They widened it on the Fish Hoek/Clovelly corner to add a cycle lane then made it parking that is almost never used. As a Muizenberg local I'm fairly oblivious to it until I'm not. It took me 40 minutes to get from Fish Hoek to Muizenberg yesterday, which was unpleasant. I can imagine it raises the blood pressure of those who think they are better than the traffic as well as the cyclists who get passed by the same car 24 times @splat I'm glad the car driver didn't take you out because you're also a cyclist! Nothing like blanket rage
  4. The amount of traffic along Main Road between Fish Hoek circle and Tokai is enough to get anyone's tempers flared. the Northerners have hit us hard already! Sounds like a terrible thing to witness. Makes my skin crawl when I have to witness such unnecessary aggression
  5. To everyone who has donated thus far, I really am humbled by your generosity. I am starting to think it may not be an impossible task to get that entry! I really am blown away and look forward to keeping you all entertained in the lead up to and during the race. Most of all, I have a few cool plans to raise some awareness and some sweet moola with Uncle Ricco for all the abandoned best friends. You are all amazing and I feel so unworthy of your generosity! @eddy @I FLY @DJuice @peetwindhoek @Zebra @Brakepad @Mamil @warrencharlesza and the two sneaky anonymous donors! THANK YOU! I will likely be cursing you all at some point when the cheese gets stringy but in a loving way
  6. I have located a benefactor who is happy to pay the extra 4995 for the early bird if I raise the 20k So all is not lost! (There may be some slight exaggeration in the above and it is, in fact, just my wife who has given me permission to spend some money from our savings)
  7. If you're 'between' sizes on the size curve, definitely ask if you can ride it first. I am 1.74 and ride smalls. I have owned a few mediums but on the smaller side of Medium. The best bike I ever owned was a Spez Camber Grom kids bike. I regret selling it. Having also ridden (and still ride) BMXs, I don't like feeling stretched out and love feeling like I can whip the rear end over and round things. It might feel perfect and it might feel small. It looks as though it has a very long stem fitted for such a big bike, so if you are able, take a few shorter options when you test too. But ja, it's an awesome bike, but getting one that fits is where the confidence comes from. If it feels even slightly wrong it will always live rent free in your mind when you ride
  8. I think that is sort of Panda's point though By riding/running alone, we are knowingly making our potential problems somebody elses problems if things go sideways I'm not going to stop doing stuff alone, I quite genuinely don't have enough friends for one to join me every time I spontaneously decide to down tools and go up the mountain. But I will definitely be more cognisant of going with a mate if I can....... Just in case I end myself and need help
  9. Absolutely Panda has also helped out MANY people I guess the point is that while there are measures in place, most of them still rely on others/strangers to implement in dire situations. Which is ironic It is not fun assisting people who have crashed, run into trouble and rely on you to cancel your plans, miss the wedding of your best mate or an important work meeting (real life things I have missed due to loners crashing/getting into trouble) etc While I don't regret helping those people, I am severely annoyed that they affected my life in a less than pleasing way at the time EDIT: avoidable in many cases Edit2: I run and ride alone a LOT and would also be reliant on someone to assist me if I got into trouble. It is just interesting raising the point that while you accept the risk, you also expect assistance. I had never actually thought about it like that
  10. I think some of you are missing Panda's point. Riding alone is risky for YOU but in the event of a fall you are often relying on strangers for help. Strangers who didn't sign up to spend their day assisting people who don't ride in groups because it doesn't suit them, but then rely on a group to get out in tact. It's a tricky one because although most solo's acknowledge the risk is theirs, if people ride past them and say 'not my problem' while they bleed to death in the bushes there will be a level of un met expectancy of help
  11. The Teddy on the stoker seat would definitely need to be wearing overalls or an apron with a thought bubble mumbling about the aqueduct and water mobsters making life hard in Prince Albert......
  12. But they ARE desperate? The business is folding, so they will try to accrue any sort of credit or value however they can. If the suppliers say no then they are in the same place as before. Supplier says we will pay you 15c to the pound value, boom, that's a win. Warehousing and storage space gets free'd up which means rental units can be vacated OR owned units can be rented out for revenue. The company is under administration isn't it? They will be clearing avenues to keep from filing for insolvency. But it's fine, I'm not sure why everyone is panicking. The bike industry is absolutely fine and doing better than it was pre covid. All the massive companies closing down aren't indicative of the truth.......... 🫠
  13. I will send them an email today and see what the deal is. I just tried to register to enter and it would only drop down a Munga Equippe option, so hopefully they can clarify
  14. CX season is going hard! The weekend's race was rad - ice and snow in Val di Sol!
  15. Are you guys already on holiday? This thread is Cycling Huis Genoot! 🤣
  16. Geez guys! This is amazing! Sorry, I've been a bit remiss this last week dealing with some work commitments and emergencies. We had a major flooding at work and trying to mobilise people to replace carpets, fix built in cupboards etc in December is proving to be quite trying! I promise I will get my ass into gear with some pictures and stuff ASAP
  17. Not defending themm, but I think your knickers are in a knot and you are butthurt over nothing. You seem to feel he owes you something in a free market. I understand your frustration, but they don't. You keep mentioning 'common decency' but as above, it's a matter of perspective. From where I'm sitting, this thread is more in breech of 'common decency' than being ignored. I'm sorry Bazzaspeed hurt you. I guess I'm telling you to get over it and not publicly drag people through the mud for hurting your feelings
  18. I must be honest and say that as a buyer and a seller, I have forgotten to reply to people. Am I a bad person? Probably to them, but I do my best to be a good person most of the time. I'm not perfect. I have also purposefully ignored people who just rub me the wrong way by their messages. When they message, how they message and what they say. Some people genuinely just give me the creeps and probably don't mean to at all, but as you say, expectations differ. Someone messaged me the other evening at 19:20 and said, Hi, hope you are having a good afternoon...... In my mind 19:20 is night time, family time, almost bed time and the worst time to message someone but to them it was afternoon. I asked them to please contact me the following day any time between 08:00 and 17:00 and never heard from them. I'm sure he probably thinks I'm a dick and I think he is a bit of a dick. Neither of us probably are I'm sure you get my point
  19. 1. If no transaction has taken place, neither of you can 'by the rules' leave a review as no transaction took place 2. They probably sold the skewers and feel bad about not telling you but don't feel like dealing with admin and/or guilt 3. You never paid them? Just move on. Put out a 'Wanted/ISO' ad and see what bites. But beware, those attract scammers. From my point of view, this thread is creating the drama, Bazzaspeed is just a bad seller.
  20. I'm a member of their fundraising team. I will generate a donation link once 2024 is set up, so when I everest or do Swartberg GF etc on the BMX in the build up to Munga people can donate that way I think my last BMX ride raised close to 20k so I'm hoping that I can do a bit more with more time to prepare this year
  21. Vertorack do a standard 6 bike order https://bikenetwork.co.za/first-look-vertorack-6-bike-tow-bar-mounted-rack/ I saw prices on their socials too. A 6 bike rack comes in at half the one quoted above and it's in Paarl, so not far from Quade
  22. Pieter will also be happy to manufacture something custom if necessary.... He is a rad dude. His service work, workshop, knowledge and experience of tooling, turning and fitting is phenomenal. He also shreds his DH bike hard
  23. I'm trying to build a seatpost long enough and sturdy enough to be reliable and allow a proper seated position on my BMX. I've taken a Ritchey 27.2 and cut the top off, cut a Pro handlebar to make a shim, then stuck a piece of Giant 27.2mm post to make a super long post and am now using a 30.9 Spez seatpost to slide over the join/extra piece to attach the saddle and stabilize the whole thing.... Did you just die inside? 🫠
  24. Maar daai is mooi Honde! I have two rescues as well. I wanted neither of them. They are both idiots who bark at birds, eat cat poo like sweeties, roll in human poo and rotting dead things and chew holes in our socks which they steal off the clothes horse. I always joke when my wife wakes me up when I fall asleep with them downstairs cuddled on the couch that there is no love as pure as the love between a man and the dog (dogs) he didn't want.
  25. Is it really? So if you own a Giant bike you can only wear Giant branded helmets, clothes and shoes? Or if you own a TREK you can only wear Bontrager? If you have two different brand bikes, do you have two completely different kit/helmet/shoes setups? I just buy whatever ticks the boxes of affordable but still decent. I really couldn't care if my shoes are Shimano and my drivetrain is SRAM. Life must be incredibly complicated and limiting if everything needs to brand and colour match. Is one allowed to wear Fox trail shorts and have a RockShox fork? Or does that set off your spidey sensors? Or have a SRAM drivetrain with Shimano pedals!!!!! the sacrilege!!!! hahahahaha I hope you never have to see any of my bikes, you would melt like a witch with a bucket of water thrown over you
