  1. They most definitely communicated numerous times that the timing was done manually. The Number boards are hand painted. They will load the timing and the results when they are ready. A bit of patience never hurt anyone
  2. Very loose use of the word 'crushing'... I feel it was the climb that crushed me! What a day, what a race. Thanks to everyone, that was hard but incredible
  3. Shot... I see my registered email address is my old gmail. Got it! Legend, ready to go now
  4. Is the route marked or do I need to load a gpx route onto my watch? (I'm sure it's on the webpage but I'm being typically 'internet' and asking here) I checked the website... it is marked but a GPX route needs to be loaded onto your bike computer but it is 'coming soon'.... I have no idea where my bike computer is and have no way to mount it on my bars anyway. oh well
  5. Is Teal still a thing? I remember it being popular in the #enduro scene 10 years ago when Martin Zietsman still lived in SA and had ALL the teal.....
  6. I have had 2 UCI non compliance issues in the past. A bar plug fell out of my bike in transit to a race in NZ and I was warned on the start line. We shoved a cork in from a dust bin. I also received a start line warning for trying to ride a MTB race with no sleeves. Yes yes, cue the tri athlete jokes, but it was hot and I chose to air out the pits unknowingly in breach of UCI dress code.
  7. Absolutely In context though and without immediately getting defensive, I said it's a very small group of people, who are also then bemused that someone might ride a bike/tire etc not suited to said event and do well. THAT is my point, not YOU and your racing/fiddling, that you will find a lot of people who don't fiddle/change stuff all the time and still do relatively well. That's all.
  8. No... You simply cannot sell me a 'nice' moonbag No matter how you dress it up, it's a moonbag and it's worse than a saddle bag Over loaded pockets and moonbags look far more ridiculous than a small receptacle under the saddle
  9. I love how guys abuse saddle bags because they look junk and then advocate fanny packs.......
  10. Dunno, I've ridden bikes pretty comprehensively in the UK, NZ, parts of Europe and some other places over the years MANY to most of the people I rode with had the same bike with the same setup for many different uses, conditions, race types etc There are even those in SA who do the same. It is a pretty 'select' bunch of dedicated people who swap and change tires and gear ratios for different races. I'm not excluding myself for this, I'm on the hunt for a 44 or 42 front ring for my BMX for gallows as the 52 was a bit big at Swartberg
  11. Emma Sadleir letters!!!!! Those were the days
  12. So, as a question to the saddle bag haters.... Where do you store stuff? I HATE having things in my pockets and my flannel race shirt doesn't have any storage. I have seen a spate of aero bikes with 40mm wheels, hoods turned in with riders in full toit lycra and 120g aero helmets with a bespoke hand made bar bag hanging below the stem. Is that acceptable? Or do we sacrifice a bottle cage for a spares bottle? If I can't perform like a pro, I at least want to be able to nod and be nodded at by the pros without being judged....
  13. I think you'll find a LOT of people (especially on BikeHub) pay way too much attention to their kit/tires/sealant/spare tube weight etc than 99% of the rest of the world who just have a bicycle and ride it, regardless of how optimal it's set up is for that specific 3% of use it gets. I know, it's difficult to hear, but it's true. Golfer syndrome runs deep with cyclists..... 😆
  14. For sure. My experience is that it's a waste of money. But maybe you will do better than me. In terms of prams, I put permatubes in the wheels so it didn't get flats. Getting flats while out sucks.
  15. IMHO they are a LOT of money and most people I know barely used theirs. I think I took mine for a grand total of 4 runs. The wife maybe 10. The big wheels were cool for walking the greenbelts and vlei, but as a jogger, it is a hassle. I DO know a guy who ran fast and often with a thule glide 2. Over chappies twice a day and even got a few amazing results at bay2bay and a few other runs. But as I know at least 30 people who used theirs as gravel road/path strollers and 1 who actually jogged on the regular, he is an exception to the rule!
  16. Would that be the cut off thing? Similar thing happened at Comrades last year didn't it? I reckon stuff like this has happened all the time but with the advent of social media, the mess up is far further reaching than before when it was just a newspaper article on the second to back page or some facebook rantings. Accountability in the event industry isn't something that's been historically evident, but in todays environment there are far more repercussions for not ticking all the required boxes
  17. All I can picture when I read this thread title is that black Rapide monster cross bike that has been posted a few times on the site
  18. I tell all reasonably fit cyclists who haven't run since they were young...... Start small. Seriously. You will injure yourself if you start expecting your cycling muscles to carry you for extended periods at a jog. Even 5km is too long when you're first starting. But ja, good luck. Running is the source, hope you stick with it.........
  19. Yeah, sjoe. I made a few mental notes and kept an eye on some things while out fighting the headwinds, so I'm hoping to get it a little better there. Pretty excited now!
  20. I'm going to suggest that @bleedToWin has some invaluable insight into this AND the patience to tell you you're doing it wrong politely. From experience. There is definitely something to be gained from taking pointers from here
  21. I definitely didn't get a UCI medal.... It must have been just for those on their respective category podiums.
  22. I'll be there, you won't come last
  23. I thought the waterpoints were excellent. They provided exactly what was written on the breakdown AND more. The pancakes at de Rust were fantastic, boerewors rolls at Kobus se Gat. They had more than enough Coke, Enduren, water for the whole field and the people manning them were excellent. Did we do the same event? 😝
  24. Shun the non believer!!!! The wind broke me. I was doing maths the whole day to see what time I needed to leave Kobus se Gat to have a chance...
  25. I finished.... It was tough But happy to have made it over the pass and back to the safety of Prince Albert before cut off!
