  3. Retied, chuck the pads and move on dude - personally I don't think you will ever get that stopping power back from them. Another solvent that can be used on the disks is isopropyl alcohol. Less than a 50 for 500ml at any decent chemist. New pads dude - don't take the chance with not being able to stop...

  6. Yeah Kiwi is the man - either that or you gotta go previously owned. take the 2k, sell the dart add a bit and you there... Also hubbers get confused with the whole fork/shock/front/rear thing...causes some epic popcorn threads. So to ease the pain - forks are on the front, shocks are on the rear. Happy buying!
  7. Bugger, thought as much... So, anyone out there got a second hand set of clincher wheels? that can take a screw on cluster - 6 speed (gears aren't a problem on the bike yet...)

Hey all Got a mate who has scored a 80's Le Jeune to ride for the Argus from his old man in law....however said old man used to race semi pro back then so the wheels have vrot tubbie tires on them. SO, ULTIMATELY. looking for advice on how to replace / refit the tubbies and if anyone has a set for sale as 600 - 1000+ per tire (new) is not going down to well for my mate and he is dead keen to ride the argus on this puppy - 12speed with racing block is going to be interesting to see on the argus for someone who is a recreational rider.... Shot dudes.........

  10. Looks good, I see that is where the cassette is coming from. Add a rather large lock and chain to the mix and you are ready to commute.

  12. Sounds like an awesome set. I think hope sell hubs and rotors together because of the 4 bolt arrangement. Only problem I could see is if you damage a rotor, then a bit of a wait for a new one? Those will look sweet on the Ibis...

  14. The squealing comes from reasonance between the rear of the pad and the cylinder of the disk brake caliper. Clean all the bits and pieces and lube as you have with the WD40 etc... Make sure once you finished all is clean and dry. then put a dab of copper slip on the rear of the brake pad (by dab literally touch end of finger to copperslip and apply minimal amount to pad rear). This lubricates the rear and stops the reasonance. If the workshop dudes didn't tell you this then maybe look for another workshop....???

If you need to learn how to ride a bike with out cheating a set of flats will be a good lesson. I would go for the 5050's cause they are just awesome. Apparently they work really well to...

  18. Yeah it will work, jut costs alot more than isopropyl alcohol. Get it from the chemist, costs about 40ZARS for large glass bottle full and works a treat. Then just give the pads a good run in down a hill and you should be good to go
  19. Cracked a crank arm thread like that once - had to have the thing machined out and heli-coiled.... Glad you can right - now don't over tighten the new ones...

Saw a nifty article in the MBUK a while back, dude with a similar problem... he takes a piece of left over old cable (brakes / shifter / what have you), loops it through the link so the ends "cris-cross"over each other and *TUG* - Hey-Presto it comes apart. Not sure if it works, but got and old piece of cable and chain - going to give it a go!!!
  22. Yeah, its tricky that one. To much weight and the tire will slip out under pressure, to little and it slides cause it has no grip... Kind of have to find the middle ground for yourself. I didn't think about the rebound - that was serious oversight!!! Nice to learn something new. I find the trails real tricky at the moment - lightning fast but with so much traffice that there is always something that'll catch you - loosened sand, a bit of gravel that acts like marbles.... But man it is so much fun to go fast!!! Playing with the pressure of your front tire also helps a bunch.

Ok - Nevegals a good tire but in these dry conditions you could go better (and save the Kenda for damp conditions where it excels)- maybe try something with a slightly more rounded profile (WTB Exiwolf, Prowler SS, Maxxis Ardent) Aim to go no harder than 60a rubber on the front - if the Kenda is a 2.1 wire bead then it is probably 70a which is hard. Great for the rear but not grippy enought for the front. You can go low as 42a, sticks like **** to a bunny but wears fast. Maybe try a slightly bigger size if you on a trail bike, 2.35 on a 5' bike I found works for me... Clipped in is all good, so now next time you go round the corner make sure all your weight is on the outside foot - all of it!!! It forces the ridged knobs of the inside egde of the tire to dig and grip. also don't be afraid to pull and push on those handle bars (especially pull when the front starts to wander). Try dropping your seat a little, make sure your weight it not over the front tire as this will help with your demise. Also if you can adjust your fork, try making it a little softer so it has a little more give to track the ground... Then again you could be going hell for leather fast and then nothing besides a bit of timing and blind luck will help. Hope that helps - anyone else with better ideas. The more help the merrier...
  24. I would ask first - is your front tire warn? Then: What kind if tire? How soft is the rubber? What conditions are you riding in? Then move onto technique....are you going thorugh the corner with you cranks flat? Both feet clipped in? Inside foot hanging out?
