  1. Don’t think you can compare the Argus and CT marathon to this though. Both of those events are closed off to cars etc. Is this a big enough event to close it off? And also do we want it to end at Greenpoint? I think a start and finish venue right on the mountain is more feasible. Certainly from a spectators view. I know people dont seem to like loops, but from a spectating point of view this is so much better as you get to see the riders multiple times. I think for a world championships, having some sort of circuit to finish it off is imperative. You can have your initial route going out a bit to get mileage but I do think the end of the race needs to be a circuit and to have a circuit, it needs to be right on the mountain. UCT is the best option for me if Table Mountain is the place.
  2. Stealing this. Thanks 😜
  3. The thing you haven’t considered is a start and finish venue. You cannot start a mtb event at the Waterfront. Where are you going to pack all the spectators? If the route were to go over Table Mountain, the only feasible start and finish point would be UCT. If that is not possible, then the event would have to move further north. In the Tygerberg region, Meerendal is the only venue that can accommodate an event of this size. None of the other farms in the area have the capacity, hence why the Epic base is always at Meerendal. You can design the route to traverse through the other farms, but the base would have to be at Meerendal. Other option would be to move even further towards Stellies, Wellington, Paarl area.
  4. Okay so essentially Pogi will attack that climb and then slowly kill anyone who manages to stay with him up the climb after that.
  5. Strava is the easiest for this. Can specify every component for every bike you have. Must be done on the website though.
  6. Interesting. No gravel option this time but definitely a much better route to Ceres.
  7. When is Tour de Worcester? Havent heard a peep about this as well.
  8. So the entire course is laps? There’s no warmup miles outside the city before we get the laps. Pretty interesting that. Is the mens route the same format? That circuit is pretty lumpy. The climbs itself is not that hard, just the cumulative effect which adds up. No free miles anywhere as well. Just up and down constantly. Pogi will obviously be favorite, however this course will be hard to manage to any breakaways and that’s what I see happening. People are going to be jumping and attacking at will. It wouldnt surprise me at all if Pogi does a similar thing like last year and goes very early to avoid this.
  9. They could’ve announced this well in advance. It’s been 3 weeks since the event was active and it’s already cancelled. Even the other event Old Hermon, they also just announced recently. I like to plan my schedule well in advance. You can’t spring an event on everyone a month before the time. Most people have probably already committed elsewhere. I honestly dont see what purpose this Organisation serves at the moment bar running the cycletour.
  10. It’s weird because I actually prefer 130km to 180km. But like if there’s a 180km option, then it feels like im chickening out by doing 130km.
  11. How was the hardtail? Honestly, my main reservation isn’t really comfort. I’m fine with sacrificing some comfort. I’m just concerned about the descending on drop bars vs flat bars. How technical/rough are the descents? I’d say my descending on the drops is okayish. I’m not terrible but clearly I would be faster on the flats. I’d say more of a concern is hand fatigue on the drops if the descents are super long. On the flats bars i can pretty much fly down. But how much time would I actually lose on a descent though vs what i would make up the rest of the course.
  12. Yeah it is confusing. When I read Elite, to me that means you need an Elite Racing Licence. Although that’s probably not applicable to off road? Not really sure myself. Or perhaps it means, you have experience of starting in an elite group or something.
  13. What about a dual suspension vs a drop bar hardtail?
  14. If this is the case, then I personally think the main race should just be 130km then. I think you’re going to find it difficult to persuade people to join this event if they’re not going to be allowed to complete in the main event. 130km’s is still more than enough distance to make it a hard race.
  15. I see the latest aero socks now have that ribbed pattern they use on the sleeves. That pattern is a bit more protruded than the first gen aero socks.
  16. These are the ones yes.
  17. I use Vittoria Terreno XC Race on my drop bar hardtail. They’re essentially almost a slick pattern down the middle and knobs on the side. I think they’re great for non technical stuff and if you are planning do loads of training on the tar, they roll really well on that.
  18. If you’re looking for a trail bike over XC, I’m assuming the plan is to do more knarlier trails. If that’s the case then you might as well just go full sus. If you’re not planning on doing rough stuff, then a XC bike might suit you better. And then I’d perhaps be more inclined to agree with a hardtail.
  19. Anyone have an idea of when the water points are? In terms of km’s?
  20. Anyone have the strava route for the 100 miler?
  21. Completely disagree here. For one, it’s not a Temu part. The part that is being sold is a Cyclami component. That brand sells multiple other complent type stuff like lights, pumps, tubes etc. Secondly, how do we know the seller actually bought the product from Temu. Like others have said, i have seen Cyclami on Takealot, Solomons, Bike-Addict and I’m certain from other stores as well. And they aren’t being sold for Temu prices. Thirdly, it’s a free market. You can sell for whatever price you want even if the item was bought from Temu. As a buyer, you need to do your homework properly. If you dont, then that’s on you. As long as the seller is not lying about the authenticity of the part, then he can sell for whatever he wants to.
  22. If he’s only doing gravel and tar then the 38T is the right move. If you’re doing actual mtbing with single track and steep climbs then stick with the 34T.
  23. Honestly, if i were to buy another mtb right now, I’d get a hardtail with a slightly slacker geometry, to fit 120mm travel and with clearance for nice and wide tyres. And then slap on a dropper post.
