  1. I would say stay away from Yeti, I had one for a few months. Hated it, Rear drop out cracked. bike used to sqeek all the time it was like riding through a bad orchestra. Go to a ride beofore you buy day and ride all the bikes in your price range and be prepared to be surprised, I vowed never to ride a Merdia, and guess what I ride now!! Bikes are like dogs you dont pick them they pick you!
  2. ride fast enough so that no one can see the details on your bike. If it works use it till it breaks cycling is expensive so save your cash cause next thing you know the cassette and chain are shot and they need replacing
  3. If you have wide feet the Spez and Sidi shoes wont fit your foot, they are too narrow. Shimano make great shoes for wide feet.
  4. Where is kings kloof? I know where teak is and VG but Kings kloof?
  5. I also got a 3000d My bike tips the scales at about 11,5kgs with the following upgrades to the standard 3000d Rims= DT swiss XR4.2d tubeless conversion done Crank= Truvative Noir carbon crank Brakes= Hayes stroker carbon Rear derailleur= XTR shadow Handle bars= Kcnc Scandium Stem= Kcnc fly ride Seat post= Kcnc pro lite ti Cassette= Sram PG990 Chain= XTR The 300d frame is light the group set is good I would look to change the rims tires and seat post for the quick answer.
  6. MaxUmis I agree with your choice the Maxxis combo is rock solid, good weight great performance and best value for money.
  7. MaxUmis 100% correct from a scientific perpesctive, but what is the rotational mass of a tire with a 10cm long gash in it? The answer is the same as the speed of the bike at that point ZERO for approoximatley 5 minutes. I am not disputing the benifts of weight reduction on a bicycle, but unless the rider is perfoming at 100% of the thier possible output, the best place to improve time/weight is on yourself. Then and only then do savings of 300g come into play. If we were talking about changing a complete bike and saving 1,5-2kgs then it is a no brainer. I used to buy all the lightest stuff and spend thousands on new technology trying to save and extra 500g only to realise that you cant buy a better time you earn it.
  8. For me the equation is like this Go for a piss before you ride and use punture resistant tires cause you will lose the 300g's and you wont have to stop for 5 minutes and repair split tire. Just my 2c worth
  9. Johan is the best guy to deal with full stop, he always makes a plan and he doesnt take you for a ride, if something aint broke he dont replace it so he can make extra cash. A good guy to know if you Love you bike/s.
  10. Nice bike bro. But it dont matter what we think it matters what you think of the bike. Enjoy it
  11. OKay now that we have the unbiased report from the LOOK techincal department what is the price of these pedals.
  12. Even better please give me the newbie to raod cycling a run down on why Iclic and Look pedal are better than Shimano pedal? Is it weight/bling or is it a real benifit?
  13. JHB hubbers, I have been overseas for a couple of weeks, is there any feedback on what is happening on the Cradle route? Is it still a no go zone? Thanks
  14. Sounds bad you are right but sounds better, than cyclist shout and killed found lying dead in ditch along popular cycling route.
  15. Read this thread and lets put some of our ideas forward and try to get something going to proctect oursleves. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=84543&PID=1169593#1169593
  16. that is why we must unite and solve the problem oursleves, the government can be bothered with us. We are the ones who need to fight this battle.
  17. The funny thing is that I suspect that if we do get the security company involved the SAPS will then do some thing about it beacuse they will look bad. Lets keep the ball rolling on this if we can get some volumes of people keen to pay the fee we can start to negotiate with the companies. We can make it exciting for the riders and difficult for the criminal bby changing the venue every weekend so they dont know where we will be and when but we know that we will be secure.? What do think of that Idea?
  18. We must spread the message about the http://www.nbrza.co.za/ site to all hubbers. and the LBS community they also loose when people sell stolen bikes at cheap prices
  19. I hear you, the other idea is to pay for armed gaurds to line the route , but guns lead to violence and in the world of guns the criminals always have more and are more willing to use them.
  20. I would also suggest that we keep records of the serial numbers of our bike and should a bike ever be stolen we can post the serial number here and try to prevent the resell of stolen goods. Stop the demand and they will not carry on stealing them.
  21. We are all aware of the bike jacking taking place across the country, and the reality is that SAPS are not going to do anything about it , so the only people who can is us! Bike jacking in the past was opportunistic, it is now organised planned and executed with military precision. The question is what can we do and this is the reason for this thread: Let?s put our ideas down and see if we can make something work. I think this is what we must stop doing: 1. Having and us and them approach to other cyclists and cycling clubs we are all one community! And need to act as such 2. Thinking that the place where you cycle is safe! It is only a matter of time until the rest of the criminal?s cotton onto the easy money and low risk of bike jacking vs. carjacking they may claim your riding grounds as their jacking grounds? 3. If you are buying a 2010 top of the range bike that retails for R65 000 for R20 000 make sure it is not stolen. 4. Don?t be penny wise and pound foolish, if we all have to pay R100 per month to hire a security company then let?s do it.
