  1. I do it on my single speed track bike. Not ideal but so far I was lucky with regards to punctures.
  2. That part of the bike path is a sad show. Ride in groups or when it is really busy with people walking to work. Miss that time slot and it gets really lonely... I then normally ride up the bridge at the Woodstock bus stop and then down onto the single track next to the N1 and Marine drive. Works both ways. Idiotic that one has to do this but it feels much safer (and its not ON the N1 but next to it).
  3. Ever heard of the concept called seeding?
  4. You are right. Most current criminals would probably not bother. This social process takes at least 2 generations to bear fruit if implemented well...
  5. I am feeling very sorry for the victims of these incidents. But I cannot agree on some of the suggestions here. Leave the organizers out of this. The only effect you will have is that there will be no more events or the events will become very expensive. The real issue lies much deeper. It is is a self created problem due to the imbalance of the South African society. Nothing but long term investment in education and social upliftment will change that.
  6. Koukie, read to the end, then reply
  7. Does anybody know if the cassette sprocket spacing of XT11x and SRAM11x is the same? So are the cassettes interchangable? (I know about the freehub body, would be exchanged to suit).
  8. Ever seen a 5Wh cell phone battery short and catch fire!? Good look with 500Wh between your legs
  9. Congrats to the winners. Enjoy your races . Despite the moaning and groaning at the end it was a jol and good training anyways. Will definitely be in again for the next challenge!
  10. Same here. Didn't even check my spam before Friday so it could well be automatically deleted... Damnit!
  11. Hi Matt, it would be nice to maybe let us know what is happening in the background? It's not the kind of sign-up and hold thumbs competition. Lots of guys have put in quite a bit of work to be part of this. The whole thing feels somewhat disappointing at this stage...
  12. Yeah, bring it on...this is exciting!
  13. Anyway, awesome bike and perfect for the Talas 90-120 that I am running on my Element at the moment. Unfortunately the price point is moving it far away.... edit: typo
  14. I was just thinking about this. So you will have to build a rear wheel specific to his frame... pretty much unique if you ask me. I am actually running a spacer between my crank and my N/W chain ring to move the chain line closer to the 42 cog on my 1x10 setup... didn't know that a little chain line tweak qualifies for so much glory
  15. cool, lets spend our money on things we don't need and then go home and watch TV...who needs to ride anyway...
  16. And the Garmin devices are available for more than R800 cheaper elsewhere anyways...waste of time
  17. That is so poor. But I kind of didn't expect anything better anyways...
  18. Incredible skill at an inspiring location beautifully shot. This made my Friday morning!
  19. The point with the solid balustrade was mentioned for a reason. If you come off the bike at speed the uprights of a normal open balustrade system become very dangerous for your limbs and neck. The Sani2C bridge is a good bad example. So apply some horizontal boarding between the posts to make it solid with gaps of 80mm or less. With regards to risks of the steep descent to flat transition. If there is enough space making it a flat off-ramp would be the easiest. But if there is not enough space you also can form a radial transition at the bottom. A formwork carpenter could help you with this (or any qualified farmer. They can build everything... ;-))
  20. Hi, you can use scaffold but it should be erected by a professional company and signed off (visibly) safe for use. Some things to take into consideration: The company must receive a precise brief of what the scaffold bridge is to be used for. It definitely needs solid balustrading of more than 1m height (better 1.2m or more) to prevent a crashing cyclist or his bike to fall off the bridge and hurt somebody below (or himself). The bridge must be adequately secured to the ground to prevent it from toppling over in the wind. This can be achieved with down-weighing the base struts with sandbags or similar. The scaffold company should take care of this. But I would query specifically that this is designed and done by them. The approach angle should possibly be tested on site and adjusted to suit. You should allow sufficient time to do this. 30 degrees is a steep approach if you have to pedal up a few meters. Make sure the bridge is wide enough so can get off the bike on the bridge and walk. Put in signage well in advance that the bridge is coming and must only be passed single file. Good luck and have fun!
  21. I am reading post after post after post and I am missing one big thing. Where is Momsen's reply? Nothing? Momsen, you have guys that are on thehub, you cannot have missed this thread? Tell us your side of the story (which is better bloody good) or give this man a new bike!
  22. The log! My beloved little bastard. On the first pass on my last ride it was hop, drop and smile. On round two I was a tad too slow and over the bars I went in a cloud of dust... it was funny actually to see the rider chasing me hit the brakes to dismount and walk... :-)
