  2. Was riding this last year. A proper race. Do not underestimate it. One of the better ones in WC
  3. Dude, you are comparing a high end racing component with a low/mid end second hand item that you got for steal... how does this make sense? To the gear ratio discussion: for the occasional weekend rider/racer a 1x10/11/12 setup may not make sense from a fitness point alone. Once you are properly fit and look at how to improve your racing performance weight, simplicity and reliability become more important factors. I can say for myself that I shift with one turn on the gripshifter across the entire cassette faster and more accurate than I ever did on 2x10 XT. BTW, by now I have almost 5000km on my XO1 cassette, still going strong and accepting new chains. That is far more than I ever had on XT cassettes. So maybe the cost/km is not so bad at the end of the day.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Challenge 1 dusted... feet up, relax, ahhh
  5. Rant on It is a fair bit of money but you must consider that it costs a small fortune to organize events of this scale. Shutting down substantial parts of a large city and make sure that 30,000+ people are safe and well looked after. Overseas you pay much more for something similar. If you really want an entry, you will diligently save up for it. Simple. If the lottery doesn't work out, get a substitution. But stop complaining about fees unless you really really know what is involved... Rant off
  6. I looked at the upgrade. When the XX1 cassette is worn out it will not make that big a difference to go to Eagle. Same for the chain. Then factor in the 2nd hand recovery for derailleur and shifter and the investment cost should come down to less than R3000 (accepting the cassette and chain as wear and maintenance). ...Having said all this, MTB is still the most expensive sport I ever started... But probably not worse than skydiving, scuba diving, horse riding, motorbikes (add in fuel, spares and replacement limbs)... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Not that I could afford the Eagle. However being on 1x10 and 1x11 since 3 years it works well for me for so many reasons. Maybe I am not sensitve but the 'gear gaps' are not bothersome if even noticeable. Top and bottom end is somewhat compromised, either the one or the other. Eagle solves this problem. That is quite cool.
  8. The only bike to replace an Element 999 is a new Element 999... all these changes make great sense - well done RM!
  9. How does it compare to the SID XX WC?
  10. Can't wait! Whoever hasn't climbed Groenlandberg before look forward to a very deep visit in the pain cave ) One of the toughest climbs around. It is not the elevation gain but the terrain you are faced with. Awesome! And the single track is legendary anyway!
  11. Single track against the traffic. You are never physically riding on the N1.
  12. Grew up there about. Can smell the forest
  13. The highway route is actually not so bad. There is a single track on the green strip from the middle harbour entrance right to Paarden Island. Adding a bit of fun to the commute, avoiding the trucks and the pricks
  14. Warning: Highjack on: I had Hope/Archs and now ACWLs, since about 6000km. While you have to watch the WLs rims for their sensitivity to impact damage I think the hubs are great. Super light and no issue at all to date. Still the first set of bearings. I notice the engagement being slower but I always tried to understand the impact of it and why it seems to be so upsetting to many. I could see negative impact in trial type riding or very technical climbing but we don't really have this a lot here (Grabow babyheads climbs are not technical in this context...). So I am curious...? HJ off. P.S.: Good to see Stans progressing. Great products at the forefront of technology, always keeping sense to things...
  15. Hi, I have lots of Shimano oil. The 1l does last forever indeed. I you want some, R50 for 100ml. Should last for 5 bleeds if not more... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Despite the below average experience with the Ashburton Marathon I was looking forward to ride the Trailseeker series this year. Now the first event is concurrent with TruCape which is part of the established PPA series, a gem of a race and must do for many. Be there Skyfall or not, sorry, TruCape it will be. And the last event is at the same weekend than the W2W Race. I think if you bring a new race series into a region you should not compete with a local series and stay clear of the dates of the most popular stage race of that region... Maybe it's just me but I cannot understand how that could have been missed or ignored.
  17. Tried the Early Bird...by the time the website finally loaded it was sold out. Lottery it is.
  18. One of them also summited Everest. I don't think money is a hindrance in this case...
  19. How is the ride feel of the SID XX 120mm? Does it feel stiff enough of a bike like the Stage? Thinking of buying one for my RM Element frame.
  20. Yep, overall a lot of failures, which felt somehow strange at such a high level event. Arrived with 30min to spare and still missed my start... just to collect a sticker for my board. Then the water points: I am not demanding high standards but there must be water. Running out of water at a day like yesterday is unbelievable. People could have gotten seriously ill from dehydration...
  21. Using Today's Plan since a few month now. Training using a structured plan is new to me and as life goes I followed it less diligent than I should have. The beauty is it shows you the effect of your missed sessions and displays a beautiful graph of where you are and where you could have been using all sorts of (well explained) performance parameters. So by all the above I really can recommend the platform from a beginner's point pf view. An attempt of constructive criticism to the TP team: - the web interface reacts somewhat sluggish. This should be fixed to improve the user experience. - I would prefer spline graphs over the current block diagram. maybe make it a choice? - what about the iPhone app? It was announced but never appeared?
  22. Ok, does anybody know how much this frame weighs? For same reason this little detail is kept very quiet...
  23. Where does one get a SID 120mm? Rockshox does not seem to have 120mm on their website... Would be game for a Carbon SID without remote if it only was available in 120mm....
