  1. Look to be honest I have a problem with fat kids. That is 100% the parents fault and its really unhealthy both physically and mentally. No kid should ever be fat, it will cause them to be picked on and unhealthy. When you are an adult its all on you so if that is your choice then so be it.
  2. Its much easier with Sonoff these days, when I first started I was using esp8266 and Arduinos for most stuff. Eventually I moved over to Sonoff because it was impossible to build the same thing for the price myself and it made powering the devices easier without need buck converters etc. There is still a place for esp32 for now if you need a bluetooth relay to pass info across MQTT, but I assume something along those lines will be in future hardware.
  3. Why not just use a MQTT controlled esp to turn the contactor on/off? I dont have experience with contactors, I stay away from higher current rated stuff so Im not sure its possible. I know if you are building your own solution you can get higher rated relays but again with high current they probably wont last very long. Would a solid state relay help with that?
  4. I just checked and while the POW R2 has the port to plug the sensor in, it isnt officially supported in the firmware it seems. It would probably be fine with Tasmota on it but then its heading more in the direction of a hub like Home Assistant or Hubitat. So looks like that wont really do what you want it to.
  5. You can wrap the sensor conductor under the insulation on the inlet pipe in solar setups but not sure about traditional electric geysers.
  6. Sonoff POW R2 is the only thing that works. The majority of Sonoffs are 16A rated where the POW is 20A if Im not mistaken. The other benefit is that it has power monitoring to check in realtime and cumulative stats too. You can also connect the Sonoff branded DS18B20 temperature sensor to do other automations. Has the iOS app and you can set schedules on it.
  7. Pask makes cool stuff, been watching his channel for years. The segmented rings are a pain to make. The last segmented bowl I made took more than a month with all of the various glue up's and flattening etc.
  8. It gets quite interesting in S2. The dude is proper nuts.
  9. Yes it definitely works for Amazon, not 100% sure about Google movies but its most likely supported too.
  10. Yup that is how I use it, I have a Linux server handling my routing/firewall/gw so I have DHCP options set to assign devices in specific VLANs to specific gateways and DNS servers. Its a bit of a complicated setup and definitely not for everyone but I use it to limit my IoT devices and anything else I want to isolate.
  11. You dont need to change router settings with Getflix, you just change region in their control panel and it then routes your traffic through different serves on their end. The thing I dont like about VPN's is having to try get a client and configure devices like media players, its often more pain than Im willing to deal with!
  12. Those types of questions are exactly why I like smart DNS. You configure your router and then you never need to configure the devices.
  13. Yup, been using it for years and it works a charm. I would recommend a smart DNS like Getflix over VPN any day. VPN's come with added latency and protocol decoding on both ends so it slows the connection down, there is also the factor that you need to connect the device to the VPN where with smart DNS your router transparently allows every device on the network to access geo-locked content.
  14. SA is a terrible place for finding second hand tablesaws. I literally couldnt find anything within a few hundred km of me and then it was an old Delta unisaw that they wanted R20k for.
  15. Yeah fair enough, I was meaning it from a perspective of you get enough protein and look after your health. Being a full on vegan is a step too far for me at this point. Im vegetarian but I still consume eggs and dairy. I have been to the farms where both the eggs and dairy are produced and the animals have a truly free range, happy life. I think as long as I can control the non-vegan aspects of my diet then Im still ok with being a vegetarian.
  16. And the new one comes with a warranty nogal!
  17. Restoring old planes and collecting them is an extremely slippery slope! I can tell you that from personal experience(I have about 40 waiting in my restore pile) Im sure mr Carrera will tell you the same thing... There is something special about having a bunch of well tuned and loving restored planes around though.
  18. The Laguna 18bx is a really good bandsaw. The reviews I have seen of it rate it very highly and it has some really great features. Toolcraft just got stock of them last week.
  19. Those things are so porno! awesome stuff.
  20. I have been doing it the low tech way for now and taking readings twice a day for the last while. I do have a few Sonoff POW R2's though which I attached to an extension cable, those are integrated into Home assistant and I use those to check individual appliances over time. Its a cheap and handy way to monitor power use on anything that plugs in. I still need to add one to my solar geyser but I have had its breaker down for most of summer and still had hot water, so no big rush there.
  21. You are wasting your time, there are very few full vegans in here other than Wayne P and he looks after himself just fine. At least Odi owned it when he was being a troll.
  22. I watched a bunch of Aussie reviews on the system, its a big market for Alpha and they get excellent ratings. I have been watching my consumption over the last month and I just cant justify one yet, will see what happens in the change of season though.
  23. VSD/VFD are awesome with their ability to program soft start and limit speeds and therefore draw. Im pretty sure that most VFD's are only designed for 3 phase motors though. I know you can get for smaller single phase but then it wants to work on pulse width modulation which can cause weird reactions. I have been looking for a decent VFD for my single phase lathe for a while now! I know nothing at all about those pumps, are they 3 phase motors?
  24. You can if you go with automotive lights, those are designed to handle a small tolerance of voltage drop as the batteries are depleted. You could technically use a car battery but I wouldnt recommend it. Car batteries are designed to give large amps for a short time and are not designed to be run down and charged back up again, it wont last long at all like that. A deep cycle battery is designed for that purpose and there are some relatively affordable options in smaller batteries.
  25. Hahaha! Patch is a legend, this forum would be a lot worse off without him. But yeah most newer members take a bit of time to figure that out.
