  1. Vikings Personally my favourite series at the moment by far and the best I have seen up to date.
  2. That guide, is how to cycle like a man
  3. All I have to do to align my disk and pads is to loosen the caliper, pull the brake and tighten the caliper up. That has worked for like 100% of the time. I might be lucky, or it might just my cheap brakes that don't really work on a fine tune level haha. I once pulled my front brake without the wheel in with my first bike, all I did was use the little tool to remove the tire from the rim stuck in the caliper and pushed the pistons back. Gave no issues after that. But, I have only done it once and also brake blocks.
  4. http://p.vitalmtb.com/photos/users/22525/setup_checks/20713/photos/21299/s1600_2014_Spring_cleanup_and_services_009.jpg?1393836998 Now this, could have fun on this.
  5. Get a bucket fill it up with water (lukewarm) and throw some car wax wash soap in there, mix it up. Grab my bike cleaning sponge, brush and shammy cloth. Fire up the the hose, at like a medium-ish pressure nothing too mad. Spray the bike off. Start washing it with the sponge nicely, make sure you cover all the parts. Take off the wheels clean them with brush, the actual tire itself. Clean the frame where you couldn't get access to with the wheels on. Use the brush (it's a medium brush not hard) and brush off the cassette before refitting the rear wheel. Replace the wheels, clean all the mechanical parts, I just brush them off, like the derailleurs etc. Once it's all clean fire up that hose again and rinse it off nicely. Then I take my shammy cloth and dry it up nicely where I can. Then I bounce the bike a few times so that the extra water that remains falls off. I then go to mister compressor and I blow off all the water at my bolts, wheels, mechanical part like the derailleurs, brake levers etc. After this it should be clean and dry, then I just apply chain lube. And grease and oil where needed. I clean my bike like this after 6 trips. In between depending on how dirty it might be, I just rinse off and wipe. Oh one more thing, when my bike is full of dust doesn't matter of the time. I will always just rinse the dust off my derailleurs, bolts etc. And yeah that is how I do it.
  6. This is really freaking awesome guys! I just came across this thread now. You all deserves a pat on the back, for pure awesomeness!
  7. Look awesome guys! Really nice job on the track there, see you when I am done being a student
  8. Can any one here tell me if my BB will fit on this frame. The previous sale fell through the ground, guy never came back to me. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/91712-scott-960-frame-and-rock-shock-xc32/ It's just the frame I am buying, I am taking it the rest will fit, I am getting the headset as well. Thanks a million!
  9. Load of poopoo, that guy's entire article is based on severe and fatal blows. Let me tell you this, my friend swerved out of the way for a car and hit his head on the curb of the sidewalk. He was wearing a helmet and I can promise you it would have been another story if he wasn't. There was a guy that lives in my area that wasn't wearing a helmet went down this steep hill, who knows what the hell he did but he ended up head first into a wall, he couldn't finish school and has severe brain damage. This guy is a surgeon, with this status he assumes he has a greater knowledge or intelligence than the average person, he only has sturdy hands that is all, I completely disagree with that entire article. Because I have had first had experience with helmet vs. no helmet.
  10. This applies for people who cycle in the Moot. I cycle through from, Rietfontein, Queenswood, Hatfield, Brooklyn up to Groenkloof (Klapperkop) and come back through Brooklyn, Hatfield, Queenswood, Waverly and Rietfontein. And I haven't had any issues yet, neither have I seen or heard of any recently. I have lately started going up the hill that goes to Crawford High and then go past Kruin Park, seems safe.
  11. This guy... This guy.
  12. For a student, I think the Trance is ideal.
  13. Coolios, thanks a lot for all the help guys.
  14. So if I get that for the fork, everything will work? Then I will go ahead and by myself that frame.
  15. Yeah, it's not really about upgrading in a sense. More about trying to get myself on a Medium frame, that's the main reason for changing the frame alone. Cheapest method of going up in frame size, I guess. So everything will work, apart from the fork? Because of straight and tapered? Like braailegend said, you get the reducers that will enable my fork to work on the tapered head tube?
  16. Hi everyone Okay, short and sweet; I am buying me a new frame my current frame is too small. I would like your advice to know which frames will work with my current setup, stuff like the bottom bracket etc. I currently have a Silverback Vida4 here is the link to the details, the bike is still standard besides the tyres which isn't a problem. http://www.silverbacklab.com/upload/2011_website_SILVERBACK/vida4_13.htm (Current setup) I would like to be able to just almost shift everything from the old frame onto the new one, without having to buy a new BB, seatpost etc. See my post here why; https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/89190-looking-for-med-29er-frame/ Thanks a lot for all the help, I really appreciate it. I currently have the option of this frame; http://www.silverbacklab.com/upload/2011_website_SILVERBACK/sola1_14.htm Will my setup work on this frame? And what will I have to buy etc. I am aware that new cables and housing is in order Thanks again
  17. Getting my bike back Friday, might head over there on Saturday. Sounds awesome.
  18. Hi all Okay so I took apart my bike to give it a nice clean, re-grease and re-lube the other day, everything is in working order, expect for my gear at the back ranging from derailleur to cassette. I am going to upload pictures of everything. First issue is, these two nuts which is found next to the cassette, what do they do? Because when I tighten them my wheel can't turn and when I loosen them up to give them some play so the wheel can turn the wheel itself feels loose, which I cannot imagine is a good thing. Next issue, how far should my Jockey be from my cassette? I watched some videos and read up, people say 6-8mm other people say 2-4mm. What do you guys think mine should be? I have a Shimano Deore Shadow Tech. I have uploaded a picture of my current distance, which I think might be a bit too far? I might be wrong here. Thanks a lot for all the help and support from the people on thehubsa, this isn't my first thread here asking for some advice and help and I have always gotten good replies. Thanks, you guys rock!
  19. They are pretty nice indeed, even though most of the products on their site are a bit more on the expensive side. Not really a site for your average Joe, I would say.
  20. Jip, this is exactly my idea. I am not only passionate about mountain biking and cycling in general but the bikes as well, so this is why I am asking around, looking at videos so that I can learn more and more about the bikes. Well, I got it all sorted and fixed. I readjusted the cable tension and tuned the limit screws, and it was all good. I think the main problem was the cable tension that was a bit low.
  21. Hi guys Okay, I have a little bit of a issue at hand today. The other day I replaced my back wheel's tube and without noticing my shifter was in 7th gear and my front shifter was in 1st but when I reinstalled the back wheel the chain was on the 8th cog, I didn't notice this. So I shifted my shifter into 8th and then when I wanted to shift back into 7th it wouldn't. In a nutshell, my rear derailleur won't go from 8th to 7th but if I go from 8th to 6th it goes and then whilst I am in 6th I can go to 7th and down to 8th. Also when I am in 8th when I shift to 7th the rear derailleur make a little movement, but I think it isn't enough or something. I adjusted the limit screws, this didn't help at all. So what can it be? Thanks a lot
  22. Hi guys So I was just eyeballing it the whole time and it seems fine but as soon as I get on the bike and take a spin it's doesn't feel right. So any secret little methods of doing this? Thanks
  23. Thanks, will put up the pictures as soon as everything gets done. I just really have a big liking in their bikes, they are very aesthetically appealing to me. And from what I have seen their bikes look like good quality. Their design and brand identity is among my top favourites. And because of this liking, I would really love to have one myself.
  24. Okay so the seat tube checks out. Getting cable isn't a major issue if needs be, the only problem would be the headset area and like mentioned that is around 50 bucks to solve, sounds like a go to me.
  25. Awesome thanks If possible could someone please link me to a product that I would need to fix the problem at the headset area? So that I can see what needs to be bought and so on. Thanks a lot!
