  1. Well there is a right or wrong when it comes to servicing bearings and what you describe is wrong. removing the seal and repacking is a waste of time. Firstly, the seal is designed to keep oil inside and not the dirt out. By the time youhave dirt in the bearing the wear has already accelerated. No amountof repacking is going to rejuvenate the bearing race. Our hubs use industrial bearings, they're fit forget and throw away when done, refit new. Yes there are a lot of googlelators repacking these bearings and it seems they have nothing better to do. Since these bearings are designed to be replaced, the correct practice (i.e. the right thing to do) is too replace them. But moer ma on.
  2. an international norm is the vehicle behind has to keep clear of the vehicle ahead. This does nto apply in SA... we very special
  3. The last few years has seen phenomenal growth in cycling. this is great for folks in the industry since they have access to a bigger market now. With more demand has cvome higher pricing and inevitably, the back yard mechanic who has spotted a gap in that insufficiently trained people are available to LBS and distributors alike to service this bigger market. The result is a lot of people thinking they know how this works or that and the first thing they want to do is share this new found knowledge with everyone. It akin to a grade 8 high school scholar wanting to tell the matrics how to do university math. there may be one gifted person but the rest....well... Would I trust tech advice on TheHub? Unless i knew the person offering the advice has a track record of knowing what they're talking about I would just ignore it. Its far better to simply PM the people who know whats going on and get their opinion, decide on your solution and post an outcome. Everything else is just a noise generator which devalues the Tech Q&A section and makes it really hard for people to find meaningful info (when running a search) instead of just useless banter or wheel size debates (doesn't belong in the Tech Q&A anyway.) I guess we are in the age of instant gratification. "what Oil" theads seems to be a disease on blogs in many hobbies lately... "What wheel size" isn't worthy of discussion and really shows that the person asking hasn't bothered doing a stitch of work at finding out any info or understanding the real issue. they probly deserve the 29er they get sold. So fire away. My view on the current state of the Tech Q&A is that the people with real knowledge are more reluctant to share thier hard earned knowledge so the Googelators step in and provide incorrect, sometimes dangerous information. the few who have real information, gained through the old fashioned way of books, experience and qualifications coupled to work experience are more reluctant to get into debates with Googleators who may have read one Googled article and now thinks they have all the answers...Why? Because they'd rather be spending their time and knowledge on matters that earn a living instead debating with trolls and "Johnny come lately know it alls but actually know nothings." Its the way of the world so good luck with the advice you get from the Googlelators!!
  4. I have no doubt that Lewis thinks he is better than Nico as a driver. He would not be a competitive spirit if he didn't. However Nico has always been able to buy his way in Motorracing whereas Lewis didn't and its once McLaren took him on way back when he was like 12 that he started to get access to the best equipment. Very few F1 drivers don't have an aire of entitlement about them to lesser or greater extent but Nico just behaves in the car as if his privileged upbringing means everyone should just accept his poor driving behaviour. Either that or he digs into his dads vodka cabinet too often
  5. another dumbass hub thread
  6. The fallout has not yet reached epic proportion. That spolied little rich kid will resort to further dirty tricks before seasons end. Likely he will get a one race ban
  7. Actually I hear that vettel is the number one choice but he is only available in 2016. Alonso is in prime seat do to earlier availability. Honda are keen to pouch a 4x WDC from their rival brand Infinity. Ron Dennis not too keen on Alonso despite the press banter to the contrary
  8. The journo's don't let facts get in the way of a good story
  9. akes you wonder how many other cases there are where similar circumstances has cost people their sports career. If the legit supply chain can't keep is hands clean how can sporting authorities expect the riders too....
  10. I recently tested my 26 against 5 very good 29 ers bikes over a course from home up to level 4 in Tokai and back home again. My 26er was faster everytime. My conclusion is that 29ers are tanks with weak flexible wheels. hey hold on I've been sayin that for years oh well nothing to see, moving swiftly along
  11. The wheel with the Moment of Inertia closer to the axis of rotation will accelerate faster. Since a bicycles wheel under constant acceleration the wheel with the lower moment of inertia is faster. That would be the 26 er yes. Science has known this for centuries. But Marketers are not scientists and 29er riders are clearly not scientists either... Since SA has the lowest maths and science literacy rate in the world. its hardly surprising that the 29er is most popular here
  12. Its actually his first NEW chassis. The one he is currently using is a preseason build updated to current spec. This new chassis is the first for him fresh out of the autoclave. Ricciardo gets his new chassis in Singapore
  13. yeah and the amountof prima donna's that walk into Bridge and demand instant attention because their Spec cost over R50K is a joke. Johny come lately's with no patience and unrealistic expectations
  14. Actually, in the pre Pirelli era the tyre would have survived. These easily punctured tyres are a legacy of Pirelli. Even the P-Zero Rosso I had on my car had poor sidewalls. I went back to Michelin thereafter and the difference in ride quality and longevity was noticable.
  15. Then you have clearly not watched the footage nor driven Spa. I have riven Spa and there is no way Rosberg would hav got anywhere near a sniff of an overtake from the position he placed himself into because the road narrows as it starts to bend back toward the left. For ROsberg too overtake would have required Hamilton to steer right out of the corner. Hence Rosberg had no racing line to chose and opted for a collision. That is poor sportsmanship which ever devil you chose to advocate
  16. hamilton had the corner, its the duty of the car following to avoid. Having an overlap is not an excuse to cause an avoidable collision that advantages you. In this Case Rosberg's intentions are clear. Either way he wins so it was deliberate. Poor sportsmanship
  17. Not the sameprinciple as a hover craft in any way. A hover craf blows to createa large pressure cushion that the vehicle rideson. The Fan in the BT46 sucked very gently to reduce the boundary layer air and hence speed up the airflow under the car. Not similar in principal. Compare it to a good blow job vs a having someone tryint to inflate you....
  18. so what part is not true.....in your opinion?
  19. and a better temperament...
  20. its not a eel. its keptin Umerica's sealed
  21. Burgers anyone?
  22. Mark Webber made an inspired choice to go to WEC. Its much more exciting!! Much more munch!
  23. the reality of pharmaceutical productions says otherwise
