  1. I suspect going 150mm will also have an effect on the rim manufacture not just the q-factor. To drill a rim for 150mm will require the spoke whole to be drill at an angle a few degrees closer to the axial plane of the hub. This could result in a strength loss. Haven't done the calcs but the back of a cigarette box fudging seems to support the idea that flage width about 5-6 mm wider than current will increase wheel stiffness on a 29er wheel to closer to what a 26 offers. glad to see the industry to acknowledging that 29er wheels are too stupidly weak through annually coming up with proprietry solutions to a simple problem of sticking a slightly smaller wheel Argh well, no other way to extract money from addicts otherwise
  2. Re;Aktiv has nothing to do with CTD, SPV or propedal. Re; Akticv is not an add on to the compression circuit, it IS THE COMPRESSION CIRCUIT. I think this is where everyone is confused because the marketing hype over the last few years has always focussed on the threshold valves that work ahead of the compression circuit. CTD is a three different valving configurations that also relate to suspension travel. Its lever activated so the shock is only ever working on one circuit. Flip it and leave it. As I posted above Re;Aktiv is a multistage compression circuit. Think of it as three SPV's on top of three compression circuits all tuned to activate at different shaft speed but tuned so that the response between each circuit is syncronous
  3. Brain is like a Curnutt threshold valve, similar to SPV and similar to Propedal. They are all threshold valves that get activated by a system pressure spike. Re:aktiv has nothing to do with the threshold, its a multistage compression damping circuit. NO current shock absorber fitted to a mountain bike uses this type of shock absorber in that all are currently single stage. Not familiar with DVO yet but they could be doing something similar to Penske
  4. thrice actually
  5. Of course it legit!!! Its been used in INdy car and Formula 1 for about 11 years! Most recent F1 teams to utilize this damping is RedBull and Mercedes. McLaren is an old customer of Roger Penske and Ferrari has also used their dampers equiped with a similar damping tune. Its this sort of damping technology that allows the F1 cars to not roll much through the corners or squat under acceleration or dive under heavy braking but still be able to ride the bumps with full and supple suspension movement. trek are scoring two goals for 2015: Re;activ damping and 650b Fuel XC race bike!
  6. You won't be alone in that opinion.
  7. The market may have changed (i.e. people don't want quality any longer just a quick fix) but that has not changed the fact that the cheap lights don't produce anywhere near the claimed light output.
  8. A PM puts a number to what your body is doing. Thats all it does. If you trying to move your output up by a few watts then its great. If you're trying to get fit after a winter layoff then HR and RPE is pretty good for an experienced athlete. Anyway, value for money is a relative thing. If the OP has R12K burning a hole in his wallet then he has some choice. If he has R25K then he has more choices. None are going to make him a better rider without a structured training programme and riding a bike
  9. Exactly!, Now the evagelists claim you must have a power meter. I had one used it for 18months and sold it. It spent more time in the shop having the wheel rebuilt than on my bike. I've used HR and RPE and that works for me. Anyone who can't feel that not in the shape they need to be to be riding at a cerati level on that day needs to see a psychologist because theres some denial issues going on. Power meter is probably the most data intensive tool if you know what to do with the data. Since I'm just a fun rider and don't earn a living from it, dropping R20k on a PM is more of an ego spend than a common sense one.
  10. a PM is just a tool. Proper training and understanding of yourself is a motivational thing. they are not related in the strong mind. Only a weak mind seeks solace in gadgets
  11. crank based would be my option. Will never use a hub based PM again. Way too many wheel failures due to spokes breaking. Ended up costing a lot more than the sticker price.
  12. Yes it is but any less and the pad will abosrb too much heat which will start to break down the pad material and accelerate wear. The brake pads on a car or motorcycle are replaced on a similar basis hence there is a minimum wear mark on the the automotive stuff, If there is no wear indicator on your MTB pads then measure the new pad brake material thickness and consider 50% of that to a heat sink. When 50% is worn, bin the pads. For disc rotors, if the rotor has lost 0.5mm of material then its ready to be turned into wind chimes
  13. what part of that do you need assistance with? think Activity card and night rides
  14. DTSwiss 240S Stan's ZTR 355 Lefty Comp Stan's ZTR 355 8 years old and plenty of mileage
  15. @afdelite well said. .
  16. Campagnola is not compatible with Campagnolo
  17. only a scandal in the minds of trolls
  18. Not referring to you. However, is an athlete inferior because of a condition and requires medication to allow their natural ability to be available? Because that's all an inhaler offers. It opens the bronchial tracts so that the athlete can breathe. It does not increase lung capacity nor does it offer additional uptake of oxygen, hence these are not banned. They are mild muscle relaxants. The question of whether someone should participate in sport if they have a condition is however not a very good question. Most doctors will insist on an exercise regime and sport for most lung ailment suffers. When I was a bad asthmatic my paed insisted I take up swimming. Its was the best thing I could have done. Today I only occasionally suffer from asthma or EIA. Last time I had an issue was day 3 of Sabie Experience at about 2000m above sea level. Lack of fitness, thin air, extreme temperature swing....bam. If I was fit it would likely not have occurred
  19. Even the Fox TT cartridge in my Lefty is not available on the web. You may be able to get it from MendonCycleSmith over on MTBR.com and he may also have BRAIN service procedures.
  20. Have a look at Lupine.de The lights are really top quality. I'm needing a new battery after 12 years now so I'll likely order one via their battery replacement scheme (send in the old one and you get a new one at a discount) and perhaps order a Piko as well. I still have a few of my Nightlightning sets as well. When the batteris go I just head over to Hobbyking.com and order a new one. The NL's work on any 11.1V 3 cell Lipo to 18.5V 5Cell Lipo or any other Lithium battery pack inbetween. For simple on the bar zero wiring packaging the USE Exposure lights are hard to beat for build quality. They also sorted out their connections a long time ago as the slipring they used would break contact under some conditions. AFAIK Lupine discontinued the Tesla because it was copied by Magicshine hence I will never buy one of those. Its a bit like buying a fake Pinarello
  21. Yip I needed a doctors scrip for a ventolin during a race. Hence Froome must have one as well. The fact that its not plastered over cycling publications blogspot should be indicative that its a non issue except with blogger pro's who need something to up their bog traffic
  22. everyone has some sort of condition...... Have a cold? oh well can't ride because you're taking viral guard and maybe a Corenza ParaC Have the flu, oh heck bye bye funrides. fact of the matter is excersice induced asthma is very common among athletes not for reasons of needing an excuse to take some sort of stimulant (most are natural and not on the banned list btw). Its a simple physiological byproduct of high levels of stress that athletes put their bodies through. couch potatoes typically don't suffer from EIA....
  23. No its not a grey area, its called "exercise induced asthma"
  24. Falco if you paid EFT or Credit card, you can request a bank statement for the month of the purchase taking place. that is good enough to serve as proof of purchase.
  25. can you take a better pictureof the fracture surface?
