  1. Butt ugly, unimaginative styling (looks like the P*ss Pot LeMond wore in the late 80's early 90's and stupidly expensive for no extra features or safety. its just another symbol of how greedy the sport of cycling has become
  2. and the original
  3. Kulhavy has been way off form in XC (maraton Champs not withstanding) this year so what makes them favourites? Sauser is getting old, Kulhavy is off form. Lakata and Hynek are very good pairing. I think the 2015 event could be wide open
  4. theats the most pragmatic response so far. Can't judge a bike on name and claims of long this short that. None of those gurantees a great bike. Patrick produces very very few lemons so I'm sure it will be a gret bike but will it be a great bike for ME? Can't tell till I ride one
  5. Powertap high flanges results in spoke angles that results in a weaker rear wheel. Crank based or pedal based systems do not make this compromise.
  6. YEah Audi into F1 with Alonso driving for either Audi or Porsche in WEC in 2015 is where the current rumours are heading. I doubt it though unless Audi can come in and win straight away. But then why would'nt he wait till 2016 for a Mercedes engine drive? I'm not totally cinvinced he is leaving Ferrari. The three car rule will likely come into effect from next year so I suspect either Vettel is going to McLaren or its Alonso Raikkonen VEttel at Ferrari. Going to be an expensive year for the Scuderia!! Personally I find WEC more interesting with closer racing and technically superior to F1. For F1 has become more and more sh!t. I loved Red Bull winning and giving the established teams the middle finger. Its the only new team to have succeeded since Benetton. The rest have never made it out of the mid field. WEC with Audi, Nissan Porsche and Toyota in 2015 is going to be a humdinger. Been following the races this year and the worst thing is their race calendar needs a serious lift.
  7. I beleive that this years low nose rules played a role in his survival in that the step at the front of the chassis allowed for the chassis to wedge under the tractor and lift it up. If that accident had happened last year the tractor would have slipped along the top of the chassis decapitating him. There's a lot to be learned but its clear heavy lift equipment and F1 cars should'nt be around each other. Maria Di Violotta's accident should have opened eyes to that fact
  8. there is a video of the Bianchi crash filmed by an F1 spectator. It is not pretty and I don't recommend watching it. After watching it I feel Mr J. Bianchi is going to need all the prayers and good karma that he can absorb. Truly horrific accident
  9. I wonder if F1 will consider closed cockpits or consider inflatable rubber bumpers around the agricultural equipment
  10. I'd say 75% chance its Ferrari But that smirk could also mean "aren;t you going to be surprised when it's announced I'm off to McLaren." There's an outside chance its going to be Vettel and Alonso at McLaren. Hona are keen to have both What makes Ferrari a good choice for Vettel is that Maranello is closer to home (Switzerland than England so he get to spend more time with partner and baby daughter at home.
  11. Horner only metioned where Seb is going to keep Red Bull in the headlines. If he didn't it would just be about Seb. By name dropping Ferrari everytime someone mentions Either Seb or ferrari they will mention RedBull. clever marketing. Seb to Ferrrari.....? Maybe Seb to McLaren...? MAYBE
  12. Pigs can float, they just can't fly
  13. cant seee what the problem is but glad to see the fashion police are all over it
  14. Only the sith think in absolutes. No one eversaid "dont". A lot have said "its not WORTH IT". who's sensitive now the problem with google is tha it does not give information that you have to pay for...
  15. I guess the STLE doesn't know what they're talking about
  16. sigh Wow the googlelator has arrived... Preload = pressure. No one mentioned overtightening speed = heat = expansion = pressure (see above) high speed bearings or sealed bearings as they commonly known exihibit more wear in bicycle use bcause they never get up to temperature so there is always play. This play creats uneven wear paths in the bearing. Applying more grease because the intelligent people who designed and built the bearings is a bad idea because more grease and oil absorbs more heat so the bearing runs cooler. CK bearings are preloaded
  17. PinkBike and Transworld, pillars of lubrication engineering and tribology <insert favourite sarcasm smiley>
  18. The point is if its got dirt in it, its due for replacement. Those bearings are not dirt tolerant. The mechanism of keeping dirt out is to ease grease out under pressure when the bearing is in motion. At our low speed once the dirt gets in, there is not sufficient pressure to squeeze the dirt out again. The bearing is wearing. and by the time you get to it, its really time for replacement. If your bearing is pitted its way past worn. These are NOT preloaded cup and cone bearings where the preload provides necessary pressure to force grease and oil out to keep the dirt out. but please continue arguing because its really quite amusing already
  19. Sure it's simple to pop the seals off and regrease. Point is those seals are easily removable so if the application does not need them then the seals can be removed. Regressing of those industrial bearings is necessary because the high speed they run at eventually forces oil past the seal and a regrease is needed to replace the oil. At bicycle speeds those bearings never build up enough pressure to force the oil out and if there is oil coming past the seals it means the grease is finished and there's dirt in the bearing. Regreasing does not fix the worn bearing. Any dirt or recluse requirement means sealed bearings need to be replaced. Maybe a lesson in how bearing lubrication works but I'm sure a googlelator will jump in to teach.
  20. Well there is a right or wrong when it comes to servicing bearings and what you describe is wrong. removing the seal and repacking is a waste of time. Firstly, the seal is designed to keep oil inside and not the dirt out. By the time youhave dirt in the bearing the wear has already accelerated. No amountof repacking is going to rejuvenate the bearing race. Our hubs use industrial bearings, they're fit forget and throw away when done, refit new. Yes there are a lot of googlelators repacking these bearings and it seems they have nothing better to do. Since these bearings are designed to be replaced, the correct practice (i.e. the right thing to do) is too replace them. But moer ma on.
  21. an international norm is the vehicle behind has to keep clear of the vehicle ahead. This does nto apply in SA... we very special
  22. The last few years has seen phenomenal growth in cycling. this is great for folks in the industry since they have access to a bigger market now. With more demand has cvome higher pricing and inevitably, the back yard mechanic who has spotted a gap in that insufficiently trained people are available to LBS and distributors alike to service this bigger market. The result is a lot of people thinking they know how this works or that and the first thing they want to do is share this new found knowledge with everyone. It akin to a grade 8 high school scholar wanting to tell the matrics how to do university math. there may be one gifted person but the rest....well... Would I trust tech advice on TheHub? Unless i knew the person offering the advice has a track record of knowing what they're talking about I would just ignore it. Its far better to simply PM the people who know whats going on and get their opinion, decide on your solution and post an outcome. Everything else is just a noise generator which devalues the Tech Q&A section and makes it really hard for people to find meaningful info (when running a search) instead of just useless banter or wheel size debates (doesn't belong in the Tech Q&A anyway.) I guess we are in the age of instant gratification. "what Oil" theads seems to be a disease on blogs in many hobbies lately... "What wheel size" isn't worthy of discussion and really shows that the person asking hasn't bothered doing a stitch of work at finding out any info or understanding the real issue. they probly deserve the 29er they get sold. So fire away. My view on the current state of the Tech Q&A is that the people with real knowledge are more reluctant to share thier hard earned knowledge so the Googelators step in and provide incorrect, sometimes dangerous information. the few who have real information, gained through the old fashioned way of books, experience and qualifications coupled to work experience are more reluctant to get into debates with Googleators who may have read one Googled article and now thinks they have all the answers...Why? Because they'd rather be spending their time and knowledge on matters that earn a living instead debating with trolls and "Johnny come lately know it alls but actually know nothings." Its the way of the world so good luck with the advice you get from the Googlelators!!
  23. I have no doubt that Lewis thinks he is better than Nico as a driver. He would not be a competitive spirit if he didn't. However Nico has always been able to buy his way in Motorracing whereas Lewis didn't and its once McLaren took him on way back when he was like 12 that he started to get access to the best equipment. Very few F1 drivers don't have an aire of entitlement about them to lesser or greater extent but Nico just behaves in the car as if his privileged upbringing means everyone should just accept his poor driving behaviour. Either that or he digs into his dads vodka cabinet too often
  24. another dumbass hub thread
  25. The fallout has not yet reached epic proportion. That spolied little rich kid will resort to further dirty tricks before seasons end. Likely he will get a one race ban
