  1. Inseam 81.5cm road cranks = 172.5 Mtb Cranks 175 always has been
  2. where did this happen? Baden Powell and R102 junction?
  3. Ok but even if your experiment shows that within a certain condition it does shorten the wheelbase at an extreme lean angle you basically arguing semantics because the purpose of the experiment was too determine whether there is a benefit to countersteer. The angle of lean in your experiment require to satisfy your hypothesis is impractical meaning that the experiment is flawed and the hypothesis does not hold true. Laying the bike flat on it side and turning the bars is not really of any use to anyone other than someone trying to the fit the bike into the load bed of a bakkie... You're also no longer exploiting the contact patch of the tyre but rather the side walls....hmmmmm
  4. its a test that also does not work while you're actually riding the bike... I see what you did there and its just wrong because at those extreme lean angle the bike is no longer riding. I have actually ridden a bike and tried that at slow speed. That Danny McAskill level of skill. take the bike and at reasoable lean angle, say 15 to 20 degree, hold the front wheel rigidly and swing the rear o the gravel. Then go measure the distance of any point on the arc to the the point where the front wheel was anchored. You may want to try this with a can of referee's cream...
  5. So how far out of line was the rear wheel to shorten the wheelbase....? and what was the lean angle and how did you measure the "effective head angle"
  6. this thread has become useless without video's and pitchers
  7. all these technicalities has nothing to do with the wheelbase...
  8. if the contact patch moved backwards relative to the axle you would be heading over the bars. Its moves forward as the head angle slackens i.e. the vertical line drawn from the axle to the ground moves to the rear of the contact patch which stabilises the front wheel
  9. No the "Shortening of the wheelbase is whats confusing. The rest of the bike is pivoting around a fixed point (headtube). Off course sliding the back heel and counter steering is faster but its nothing to do with wheel base
  10. gonna need a 29er... its worth an hour over 100km didn;t you know
  11. stupid
  12. I think you missed the point...
  13. Well it can be compared to a round of golf. Mtb, like Golf is a recreational activity. Going to a restaurant is a recreational activity or is just going to the restaurant...? : Day permits used to cost R10, yes and they cost R10 for nearly 8 years....no inflation was applied. This was because MTO was managing the land. Being a commericial entity its revenue came from tree feeling and not user groups. When SANParks took over the revenue stream had to change. WHat SANPArks did was they applied inflation over the period that the permit fee has not been adjusted and also looked at market rates at other parks in other parts of the world. The difference in other parts of the world is that the Parks Authorities tend to be more interested in talking to their user groups since they realise where the revenue is coming from... i.e. they are more customer focussed. Problem with user groups in SA is that they are so opposed to each other even at the best of times.....
  14. Has anyone considered the "steep" price of the day permit to be an incentive to buy an activity card? No lets thing about the access fee economy. Is R45 per entry expensive? For whom is R45 per day expensive? Do people in that lifestyle bracket MTB?
  15. problem is we are being sold down the river with the 29er marketing BS. Its just a bigger wheel and does not add any speed. Want more speed then get fitter and produce more power. Its just a wheel thats 3" bigger in diameter. It therefore alters your final drive ratio. to push a bigger gear you need to fitter and stronger. Simple really
  16. I think someone doesn't understand how gearing works... A 29" wheel does not roll through as large an arch as a 26" whel for the same gear ratio because the wheel is part of the gearing. You have altered the gearing...
  17. quit bitching for bitchings sake. You sound like a whining American If they only ride one day a month then whats the problem? Maybe get them to ride for two hours instead so its better value for money.
  18. Exactly. Solutions to the wrong problem. Cannondale have found an interesting solution to balancing tension in the 29er rear wheel. No standard required just a bit of lateral thinking (pun intended). The front takes 80% of the braking load which is easily the largest forcs acting on the bike. Whats needed is a wider front hub with balanced spoke length and tension
  19. talent is genetic success is a learned behaviour.

    29+

29 was already a bad idea. now they're just compounding it
  21. So many top riders post on this forum.....
  22. Do what you want to. You don't have to justify it to anyone especially fictious people on the internet. Hope you enjoy Europe. Make time to spend in Czech republic and a summer in Croatia can be unforgettable. Oktoberfest is in a few months, that can't be missed. Make sure you get out to Switzerland an ride in Verbier. lots to do, so little time. Don't waste in on trolls on the internet. oh tak solace in the knowledge that you're going to kick some serious middle aged male flat butt when you get back
  23. TUFO very nice if a little bit weighty
  24. 26ers still dominate DH
