  1. Good idea! Mine lies in the garage... in a box mostly... I'll be following with interest to see what comes from this and will gladly donate. Good luck!
  2. jip, what they said. edge 500 not that much more but gives you more options going forward. good bang for buck!
  3. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=y+a+w+y+d
  4. probably because of inconsistent results with all the "short-cutting" going on. really don't get why people do this, especially in a 20km fun race AND in lower batches (?) I've seen some nasty fights break out in the field because of it.
  5. Physics wise it does make a difference - go read up on Centripetal forces - bigger is better (you increase stopping forces at the centre of the circle/rotor). In practice you'd think 20mm is not going to make THAT big a difference, but to be honest; I think I felt it when going to 180mm from 160mm... or it could be that Shimano SLX is just that good!
  6. jip... I went for an Anthem but Sprada is a good option as well. OP looks interested in 650B though and Sprada only comes in 29er (I think...)
  7. welcome! at that budget you are best off looking in the Classifieds - I see there are a lot of options in your price range at the moment for 26 and 29ers, DS and hardtail. I'm not going to deliberate which wheel is bets as I have fun on both... For your height you are probably looking at a Large but some frames could come in at a medium (depends on manufacturer). Go look/play around in a bike shop to see what feels right, as well as looks right (don't underestimate looks) and then look for something similar in the classifieds. Some LBS owners probably going to rip me apart now for making that comment...
  8. okay, but will it be technical?!? jokes aside; thanks to guys like you that we get to have some fun from time to time, and ride something different from our usual training rides. thanks and keep up the good work!
  9. Don't know the difference but the Shimano Tech Docs site is pretty cool http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/blevel.jsp;jsessionid=rQ7dT1TQ2GNZBrYJNqN7Kcdw1q2cws80fnpQLDGd7Ftn46GhQ2k2!-1855925006?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302051947&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181679&bmUID=krKBs5u give it a try.
  10. hehehee.... also looks like my frustration made it onto the screen!
  11. Good choice, welcome to the club and many happy kms! Now that you mention it - the bike is very quite - I also noticed it on my first ride yet never gave it another thought... any case; enjoy the bike! MY ENTER BUTTON IS NOT WORKING SO CANNOT START A NEW PARAGRAPH!!! MY EFREFERE MYE ENTMMM
  12. wishing you many happy kms!
  13. ah yes... I do love that section
  14. get one of these and you can counter steer aaaaaallll day long
  15. There are still a few stalls left, but not in the old usual spot! If you walk from The Zone past Anat on your right, turn right before going into the mall, 10 or 15 metres further and there are some stalls on the left. Ahmed the watchmaker sits there.
  16. In Rosebank African craft market there is a really good watchmaker - think his name is Ahmed, but if you ask anyone for the watchmaker they'll point you to him. Even the jewellers in Rosebank Mall told me to go to him when I recently had to get the battery in my Seiko replaced. He's got a plethora of batteries...
  17. did you mean to type that in comic sans?
  18. should I post an answer with a disclaimer? I think it generally depends which sections you ride and at what time of day, but to be safe, and here is where my disclaimer comes in; no.
  19. Love my Anthem... Can't say it's better than the Scott cause I haven't been on a Scott - just sharing my thoughts on the Giant. Anthem transformed my riding drastically in a very short period. It's not always about the bike, but sometimes it is about the bike... Looking at specs it's a difficult choice. My advice: go with your heart dude. Last thing you want to do is go for one and regret it every time you see the other.
  20. Good job! I hope you put the geo cache back where you found it... or you can have a chuckle every time you ride past and notice would-be-treasure-hunters digging holes, climbing trees and ripping at vegetation.
  21. Congrats Gregg!
  22. yep, agree with you there. they should have a different category though for people that don't show - DNS (did not start/show). DNF's should really only be those that register a start through the scanning system but not a finish. To the OP: hope you get your time sorted!
  23. My eyes are watering looking at those photos... Must hurt like hell! Glad you're okay. Heal up soon! Ps: hope the bike is okay
