  1. good grief.... some time ago, I can't remember who or which thread, someone asked why people have such an issue against folk who ride the spruit... the answer lies embedded in this thread I think.
  2. oh and my avatar is actually a photo taken while riding Matoppie
  3. I'm not a local so cannot comment on which is best, but did ride Matoppie in April. Also stayed in town and could ride there and back. Very nice, peaceful (saw few people on the way there and none on the trail) and challenging ride. Just need to "hou kop"... I got lost a few times. Probablly bets to get gpx data if you ride with a gps. Enjoy!
  4. being on the right is too mainstream
  5. Does it look like this?https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/141655-helpmytrap/
  6. yes, and agreed to everything. I always see the guys coming up but not easy to make space/way as it is quite twisty through the trees. I don't get annoyed ever with riders coming up though - I ride there often and probably 1 out 10 rides someone will come up - doesn't bug me, although I do want to tell them "turn around when you get to the top"
  7. I always go same way as you and also had a a few near hits. To me it makes no sense going up... it's way more fun going down!
  8. also don't see an issue. I do have an issue with a helpmytrap - the two stroke model. they make a big noise an pollute the clean, fresh and lately cold air I am hoping to breathe when riding.
  9. specifics Bob, specifics.....
  10. I like this... a lot.For me; I know my bike is far beyond my capability and that I don't ride it to its limit but that makes me want to get better and therefore train more and ride harder. Just for that reason I do like to buy the upper / better / more expensive stuff - it inspires me to become better. I know I don't need it but if I bought something to my capability I will not be motivated / inspired. Warped psycho view, maybe.. but is works for me.
  11. hehehehe... they make sense on the road for someone commuting but very weird to see on a trail where others ride for exercise or recreation.
  12. Anyone else see the guy on his helpmytrap riding the Spruit this Sunday? I got a moer-of-a-fright when the thing came from the front and then all of a sudden fired up and "brrrrrrrrt" its way past me (bottom of Delta). Who is that?!?!?! Looked something like this:
  13. Giant riders are level-headed people - we recognize and give credit where it's due - RESPECTA!!!. I for one love my Anthem and won't slay the Spaz cause I haven't ridden it. Buddy of mine is looking at a Spaz Camber (we ride together and favour similar type riding etc.) so will either be VERY happy with the Anthem OR VERY jealous in a few weeks...

  15. mmmmm... I somehow doubt it. Looking at the short vid on their page the route takes you through a few stormwater drains. Probably going to get a BIG bottle of Dettol or Savlon or something in the goodie bag (I hope)
  16. Profile is on the site; 546.15m total ascent
  17. Good idea! Mine lies in the garage... in a box mostly... I'll be following with interest to see what comes from this and will gladly donate. Good luck!
  18. jip, what they said. edge 500 not that much more but gives you more options going forward. good bang for buck!
  19. probably because of inconsistent results with all the "short-cutting" going on. really don't get why people do this, especially in a 20km fun race AND in lower batches (?) I've seen some nasty fights break out in the field because of it.
  20. Physics wise it does make a difference - go read up on Centripetal forces - bigger is better (you increase stopping forces at the centre of the circle/rotor). In practice you'd think 20mm is not going to make THAT big a difference, but to be honest; I think I felt it when going to 180mm from 160mm... or it could be that Shimano SLX is just that good!
