  1. Nice event but the entry procedure seems to get more complicated every year. Or is that just me getting older? (And then there is that 10% penalty if you pay per credit card.) Entered, paid, but some of the team members must still register or enter or whatever. Phew.
  2. Found, thanks (Roadque, Silverton, Pts)(R260)
  3. My Thule rack has taken much abuse over many years. I am busy rebuilding it (replacing nuts/bolts, etc.) and need to replace the rear light cluster. Rather than fitting those flymsy standard things again I have seen some new trailers equipped with square LED brake/indicator/light combo. (Can't recall the make of the trailer though) I have tried the main outlets, but can't find anybody who stocks the sqaure units. (4x4 shops, Venter trailers, Midas, etc.) Anybody seen these available commercially or give some hints?
  4. There is no magic to insurance. There is no money generated out of thin air. All premium go into one big pot. After all admin fees, salaries, etc. claims get paid. If there are more claims than premium, then premiums go up. In short, the insurer NEVER makes a loss. (In fact...) So, over a lifetime, who pays the claims & the admin costs? YOU. If you are at a higher risk than the average of the pool you contribute to (i.e. other folk who pay into the same insurance pot) - then it may make sense to insure (over your lifetime). But if you are a "responsible person" & thus lower than average risk, then over your lifetime you will end up helping the bad risk, plus pay the profits of the insurance co. My opinion? Self insure from day 1 (when you start to earn your own money) Only way to make money out of insurance co's is to buy their shares.

    XT Crank 9spd

I have just purchased an XT and SLX chainset. Surprise is that they both use the same BBs and the same middle chainring. The small and large chainrings are different - that is the only reason the SLX is 40g heavier...
  7. I have used these rims with XT and Deore hubs. XTR may be bit of overkill, unless you already have them or get them cheap? Depends how much you want to spend on tubeless wheel set. The Shimano SLX set (MT65) real bargain imho.
  8. +1 and they are also the Morewood guys! As far as I know Morewood use Enduro bearing as standard.
  9. +1 for Milco Balm. My experience is that its about the quantity you use not the perceived quality (read expensive).
  10. Clearly the wear you have been expereincing is abnormal, despite your riding style, weight, etc. Assuming these parts were new there is something else at work. Shimano will not be interested in your problem, imho. Get your LBS to fight this fight for you, you bought NEW from him. Nothing wrong with SLX components, most probably the sweet spot in the Shimano range ito price vs duarbility. Most of us use chains 3000kms, casette every third chain. So you should be able to finish a Sabie on one chain...
  11. Rush Sports in Pmb are Enduro importers I think & they do grade 5 balls. Otherwise Johan Bornman will post to you
  12. Agreed, bike needs lots of work, see rear shock...
  13. I also needed this for my XT factory wheelset. I managed to buy this part from an LBS. Was about R130. (that is not a typo!) Alternative buy the whole hub, aprox R600. Then you have all the other seals and stuff as well... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20800
  14. But then again the "rest of the world" is a pretty sad place in its own way? And making it headline news doesn't solve anything. It only sells newspapers. Our swimmers perform well at Commonwealth Games & some Auz makes an issue about some random comment from Roland. How important is the overseas press opinion of us anyhow? Packing up & moving out to the land of the boring is not all it is cut out to be. Boring to be reading about poverty & problems elsewhere and realise that you are unable to contribute. (other than to send you cheque to some random relief agency...) This is Afrika, you were born here for a good reason. You are making a positive difference, celebrate that. We have so many opportunties to help a kid, smile at a down & outer, fix a commuter's bike, see the sun rise, cycle across a mountain pass, etc. (And yes, I too have two daughters, so I understand...)
  15. Respect man, hope there is somebody like you around when this happens to me... Drop by his house & update us on how he is doing. (He may want to thank you as well after recovering somewhat?)
  16. I upgraded one of our bikes from a Dart3 to the 2010 Tora. It transformed the bike (for the better!) It weighs a bit more than a R5k fork, but at your weight its strength would be a great benefit. If you buy it at less than R2k (online...) I would highly recommend the Tora. But hen I personally prefer a good coil spring.
  17. Also ordered the Fox Flux helmet. When I bought it the picture on the web was of the matt black. Got the charcoal delivered & now the picture on the website is the charcoal. Still some teething troubles, will give them another year or so before next purchase...
  18. Why not just replace the bearings with one that does away with the 1mm spacer: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id182.html I have had some good success with these (and drilling the 6mm draining hole) The Enduro bearings can be purchased locally through Rush Sport (in Pmb). Johan Bornman also carries stock.
  19. Think about it, there is not much the call centre operator can do when faced with such a query. The increase in consumption you mention would be within the norm of a typical household's increased winter usage. All she can propose is that your meter be tested. Having two readings in consecutive months the same is possible. Meters are not necessarily read every month & estimates can be used. As a starting point you can find your meter & take some readings and cross correlate with the figures you see on your monthly bill. This will also help you to determine your daily / weekly usage averages. Hope you get it sorted.
  20. Not for me thanks, waste of money - just get some very tight tights, its all the same. Cuts your belly in half...
  21. Are the Dura Ace BBs more durable, or did you just have it spare? Generally find the lifetime you get from the OEM units very disappointing (especially non-drive side)
  22. Speak to Johan Bornman - he has stock.
  23. I would think that events such as Crater Cruise & Trans Baviaans fit that category? Even S2C? I enjoy all of those.
  24. I didn't find CRC useful for GPS purchases - maps are always an issue. And prices on par with local if you take the cost of maps into consideration. I got best prices (and excellent support) from GPS Consultants (Kevin Bolton's outfit) based in Centurion. Speak to Marietjie. 012 654 9813 (I bought the Oregon)
  25. Shimano in SA carry spares - spokes are available - two different lengths, left and right side. As far as hub spares go - the factory set has the same hub as the M775. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20800 I have found it cheapest just to but a spare hub & strip parts rather than buy the individual parts. Never broken a spoke though...
