Nice summary DJR! I will definitely be back next year - it was good fun!

I will be riding Le Eroica South Africa on my Le Jeune. As you can see I have ridden many happy kilometers on it, but still not 100% sorted with regards to saddle comfort (can you spot 3 of the different saddles I have tried?). Maybe the #eroicabrooks337 will sort that out... (I will be taking it in to my bike shop soon to get 100% Eroica ready in case you are wondering).

Haha! I'm planning to take twice as long as the Munga and actually get some sleep. Will probably follow most of that route tho.

I'm planning on doing a Bloem to CT tour this year...when I find a gap.

Super impressed!! I have been thinking of making one for a while...not sure it will turn out as good as yours. I have done a few overnight trips and also just using a tarp... and no mattress...but if I went for a bit longer I recon I'd have to find a nice mattress option.

Quick question - was it because you were cycling there (even tho you had your permit on you) or because you were cycling there without having your permit on you? Either way I think it is ridiculous! I have a permit for riding and walking my dogs in the park. I was stopped recently while walking my dogs and was asked for my permit which I had left with my mtb stuff after my ride that morning. The ranger who stopped me was dressed half in SANParks clothes and half in casual clothes and refused to show identification. Anyhow, he proceeded to issue me with a fine saying that it was not possible for them to check their system to verify that I do have a permit and had simply made a mistake in not bringing it with. There has been a lot of talk about sections of Cecilia being opened for riding on a trial basis. If this is the case it should be clearly communicated to all parties. On another note, where abouts were you mugged? was it while riding? Just asking because I ride a lot on my own and want to avoid any areas which are hot spots. Good luck with your case!

Where about in Northern suburbs?

I have been looking at the Thule touring racks and panniers bags, etc. They look pretty decent and have stores around Cape Town where you can check the stuff out before buying.

I would go with Enjoy Fitness. Their sizing is a little bit smaller than some of the others, but great quality. They also will assist you with getting a great design.

I didn't have any. Some of the other guys had a few.

Some pics from the ride. We did Ouberg pass on day 2 (photo at the bottom) and another one between Merweville and Sutherland (day 5) (top photo) - can't remember the name but it was the toughest day of riding I have ever done.

Castelli are great. Pearl iZumi also good. No-bib is best I think. All the chicks I ride with prefer no bibs. Easier if you need the loo and generally more comfy.

Hi guys. What do you think of this old bike? Has 24inch wheels.

Ryder Centauri is very good. 1000 lumens and long battery life. I have heard of many people having problems with extreme lights battery life.
