  1. Well, depending on what happens to Zumbie in the next few days or weeks, the potential protesters might be too busy celebrating/stabbing someone, to protest...
  2. * Are we allowed to use discs on our road bikes
  3. According to FB, seeding will be sent during the course of tomorrow (7 Feb, Wed).
  4. Seeding is out, I'm in AL starting at 6h21. Anyone else riding this year?
  5. I'm going to guess I'll be somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00. I did even less seeding races last year than usual, just the Herald and the PPA Mangaung one (where I got caught up in a crash), so my seeding won't be brilliant. That's fine. I just want to finish number 21 safely. In 2000 they messed up my seeding and I started in M, two or three groups behind my dad. That was probably my most enjoyable race.
  6. Anyhoo, back to more interesting things - I wonder how they'll tweak the layout of the expo this year. Last year was better than the never-ending one-way tunnel (in my opinion), but there is never enough seating for people at the food areas. And... I wonder what the weather will be like... Just kidding of course - I've ridden in rain, wind, heat waves and perfect days, the weather is the least of my worries
  7. Did a quick google: http://www.tourismupdate.co.za/article/129311/Sevens-drives-influx-of-tourists "The City’s Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille said last year’s event had over 115 000 people in attendance." But the people want the CTCT cancelled...
  8. Those are the problem, in my opinion. City of Cape Town is about 3.7million people. At 25L pp/d, that is something like 92.5million liters per day? IF everyone sticks to the limit. The organisers' overestimated amount of water for participants and supporters, for 2.5 days is 2million liters. Or about 800000 per day. With all the measures being put into place by the CTCT organizers, and with people driving down bringing down hopefully enough water for at least their drinking, the CTCT and its participants and supporters should have basically no impact on the water situation. HOWEVER, if we shoo away all tourists (CTCT and otherwise), the jobs of around 300000 people are on the line (according to the numbers from the video). The water situation won't improve, but the ability of those people to afford bottled water, or transport to go fetch water, will go out the window. To me (and fine, yes, I am biased, I want to ride), looking at the numbers makes me think cancelling the event will be far worse for the City than holding it. BUT... the Facebook hysteria and misinformation might well see it cancelled.

I'm yet to play FC4, but all the others so far were great. Think I should play it after I finish Wolfenstein Old Blood. As for Red Dead Redemption, it is part of my stupidly large backlog. I'll have to take a year sabbatical to have any hope of catching up.
  10. I think the City of Cape Town would spell "Kaapstad" and "Zille" correctly, so I'll say fake
  11. According to their article, about 15000. With supporters maybe 30000? Compared to the 3.7mil residents of Cape Town. We visitors might speed up "Day Zero" by about 15 minutes.
  12. Lets see what they have to say. IF it does get cancelled, I'd rather find out now, than a day or three before, to be honest. A bit late to change plans if we're already at Beaufort-west...
  13. Live on Facebook, at 15h00.
  14. Which large events are currently being held, or were recently held in CPT? As I understand it, Day 0 has been moved forward due to a big increase in water usage recently. At this rate, Day 0 will arrive long before the Cape Town Cycle Tour, with little help from visitors from elsewhere...
  15. Whoops, completely missed this post, sorry! It was good. A change in route brought a short but steep climb near the start, quite a few spectators though so that was cool. Plus a different post race village, which I think was pretty good and has a lot of potential. Very glad I did it, in hindsight, with the Argus cancelled before I could start. I'm looking forward to this year's event. We have family in PE, so it is a nice weekend and the race is a bonus.
  16. Finally, the new update for the GPS (and the updated app that goes with it) are available. From the site What's new: * Full integration with TrainingPeaks and Today’s Plan training apps * Training specific data fields * Custom workouts * Indoor training mode GPS Ally phone app v3.06 updates: * Full integration with TrainingPeaks and Today’s Plan training apps * Offline route sync * Heart rate and power zone support * Simplified Bluetooth pairing * Improved Bluetooth stability
  17. Nope. Many moons ago (I was still in primary school) we lost our border collie due to what was suspected to be a bone-related gut injury. So, rather safe than sorry - I don't want to experience that again ever.
  18. I'm just the sidekick, my wife wears the cape. The rest of the gang: Minny = Jack Russell. 11y, she was dumped on my wife's desk as a puppy. Tickey = Africanus. 10y, she was found as a young puppy behind a shopping centre with mange, malnourished and a leg that wasn't set properly after being broken. Rocky = the small black one, 4y, drugged/poisoned and dumped in a park in an affluent area, by his owner.
  19. Yeah. From a local organisation, she was with another foster family as she did not do well at the shelter, but they suddenly had to move and couldn't take her with. Three months later and we couldn't say goodbye.
  20. Our youngest (of four) had her birthday (anniversary of when she first arrived) today. So she's about three, second year with us. Gypsy, our foster failure:
  21. It is not the prettiest, I'll agree. Perhaps the next revision (or two) improve. You could always compromise and get something like these cable-actuated calipers, keep the pretty ergos. But personally I don't think this looks good either. I'll stick with my Veloce group for now.
  22. Nope. The update that was scheduled to be released 15 Dec, has been delayed to somewhere this month. We'll see. Currently I don't even bother connecting my phone prior to a ride - it ALWAYS crashes when I start the ride, so live tracking and notifications don't work.
  23. Campagnolo also only very recently released their disc groups, so for some that was also an issue
