  1. I have ridden an SLR for 2 years now... started out with the standard SLR (135g) and it took about 2 weeks for me to adapt to it and after that I barely had any issues... and I did a lot of training and racing on that saddle. Then I crashed into a car and broke it, and had no choice but to change to a SLR XP (165g) and the extra padding didn't agree with me... never got used to it and eventually managed to get my hands on a SLR Carbonio (120g i think). I have ridden that since march and had no issues what so ever... If you prepared to get used to the saddle I really rate these saddles... that said I know a lot of people who ride Ariones and they all love them... think it just comes down to whether your a hard ass or not Cocaine2007-09-20 08:50:29
  2. A charity organisation sueing another charity organisation... now I have heard everything! aren't those funds which people so willingly donated supposed to be used to help people? not sue other charities!!!?
  3. Its a cool race... there is way to much hype, but its worth doing... I haven't found altitude to be to much of a problem coming from Cape Town...
  4. I was wondering who was shouting for acsis on that hill...Cocaine2007-06-06 07:13:46
  5. I'm with you on that one Ti... I usually try not to cycle before 10am
  6. From an elite riders point of view I think its a good time to have SA's... it means we get some rest of the Giro and get to do some more specific training geared towards SA's... also gives us a reason to keep training after the Giro...
  7. Some good points sunblock... Nice article... Cocaine2007-05-21 09:30:41
  8. I like you sunblock... well said mate!
  9. was it definitely ephedrine you took? or was it pseudo-ephedrine as found in most decongestants... Before you ask there is a big difference... pseudo-ephedrine is to the best of my knowledge no longer on the band list along with caffeine... because both have been found to have no performance enhancing effects... ephedrine on the other hand is definitely band...

i think you completely misunderstood mallo... if you read the text you posted you will see he clearly says "it should not be about colour or politics"...

I'm sorry but you are very wrong 20 cent... I have a pretty good idea what is going on in the sport... Furthermore I have competed against every single one of the riders selected for the mens teams... As far as I'm concerned there is no room for development in a national team... whether it be world B's or not... It is a privelage to represent your country and it should be reserved for your best riders... otherwise it becomes meaningless for those who get selected... no rider selected to ride for a team wants people questioning his abilities and the motives for his selection... Development should happen at the club and provincial level... give the riders opportunities to prove themselves and develop locally... then you will have the best team and it will be representitive... instead of just window dressing... this selection is a joke... and everyones thinking it, but to scared to say it... Its really sad for guys who are left out cause they aren't classed as development...
  12. caffeine is no longer banned in any quantities...

There are a hell of a lot of better riders out there available for World B champs... not one of those riders would have even made my shortlist if I was a selector... very sad it always comes down to politics...
  14. I have just recently started doing a gym program again. I find it helps a lot... the key is that I don't replace my regular cycling... also I make sure that when I'm on the bike I ride a higher cadence then usual so that my legs aren't stressed to much... that also results in my cardio system getting a slightly better workout... I tend to find it helps with short explosive bursts on the bike... The other thing is I tend to be careful not to overdo it... So if I've had a couple long rides and a tough gym session back to back and I am feeling flat I will take a day off and let my body recover. At the moment I am doing 2 leg + core workouts per week, 2 upper body + core workouts per week, and 5 - 6 rides a week which are usually about 80-130kms per ride... I find this combination of training works very well during winter... I generally don't tend to do gym work for much more then about 8-10 weeks... Also remember cycling is a non weight bearing sport so to strengthen your ligaments and joints etc you need to either run, hike or get into the gym. That way your body will become less prone to injuries during the racing season.

    Doping

If someone is injecting something into their groin area it is most likely cortisone to help with some sort of injury they have in the groin area...
  16. Well I weigh 62kg and my bike weighs 7.2kg... well 7 flat I think if I put the racing wheels on... so 69kg with my bike... If you can't loose any more weight on your body thats exactly the right time to start cutting bike weight... cause its the only place you have left to loose weight. You planning on buying a new bike?
  17. Well its up to you... I can't comment on the expert, but I have first hand experience with the pro and I am very impressed so far...
  18. Specialized Tarmac pro... Why? Very Stylish... Pretty light... Handles aggressively without compromising comfort. Very very stiff and responsive... I been riding mine since the beginning of march and I love it... Can't imagine having to ride something else... The tarmac expert is the equivalent of last years S-Works Tarmac. The tarmac pro has the same style tubing as last years S-Works Tarmac SL but the same carbon weave as the expert... Not sure what the price difference is, but the Pro is higher up in the range.
  19. From what I understand Lactate threshold can definitely be trained... Also as I understand it there is probably a mental aspect to lactate threshold aswell, since its basically can come down to how much pain you can withstand... so perhaps a novice cyclist who isn't used to enduring large amounts of discomfort at a high intensity will not be able to ride at their true physiological lactate threshold cause they are mentally unwilling to endure that kind of pain... If that makes sense
